Influence of Postconceptional Age on the Renal Biomarkers in Very-Low-Birth-Weight Infants

  • Purpose: We investigated whether consecutive levels of new emerging renal biomarkers, including serum cystatin C (CysC) and urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL)/creatinine (Cr) ratio, were affected by postconceptional age in very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants. Methods: Repeatedly measured samples for each infant were divided into four groups according to postnatal age: at birth (stage I), 3 to 7 days postnatally (stage II), 8 to 28 days postnatally (stage III), and >28 days postnatally (stage IV). The association between renal biomarkers and postconceptional age was assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient, and the mean values of renal biomarkers in the four stages were compared using repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: For samples measured at birth, serum CysC (r=-0.358, P=0.032) and urinary NGAL/Cr ratio (r=-0.522, P=0.001) were negatively correlated with gestational age, whereas serum Cr (r=0.148, P=0.390) was not. In addition, for all samples measured, serum CysC (r=-0.209, P=0.012), urinary NGAL/Cr ratio (r=-0.536, P<0.001), and serum Cr (r=-0.311, P<0.001) were negatively correlated with postconceptional age. Compared with the mean values of the postnatal age-specific stages, serum CysC showed no significant differences in any of the four stages. However, the urinary NGAL/Cr ratio in stage IV was significantly different from those in stages I to III. Conclusion: Although urinary NGAL/Cr ratio and serum CysC were negatively correlated with postconceptional age considering renal development, serum CysC showed no significant differences in any of the four postnatal age-specific stages. Urinary NGAL/Cr ratio at >28 days postnatally seems to be more affected by postconceptional age than serum CysC in VLBW infants.

정현파 신호 주파수 추정 알고리즘의 추정 정확도 비교 연구 (A Study on performance comparison of frequency estimators for sinusoid)

  • 본 논문은 정현파 신호에 대해 고해상도 주파수 추정이 가능한 알고리즘들의 성능을 비교 분석하였다. 비교 대상 알고리즘은 총 5가지로 DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform - 성능 평가 기준), Jacobsen, Candan, 재할당(Reassignment) 알고리즘 및 Cedron 알고리즘이다. 각 알고리즘의 성능을 SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio), 윈도우 함수, 윈도우 길이 등의 요소를 변화시켜가며 성능을 측정하였다. 알고리즘의 성능 평가는 편의 및 오차(Mean Square Error, MSE), 분산을 이용하여 측정하였으며, 실험결과 Cedron 알고리즘이 좋은 성능을 보였다. 실제 공학문제에서의 활용을 위해서는 각 알고리즘별로 보다 다양한 조건에서 실험 결과를 분석하고 개선시킬 필요가 있다.

  • 일반적으로 시스템 인식 방법은 입출력에 잡음이 없거나, 출력에만 잡음이 있는 경우를 주 대상으로 한다. 본 논문은 입력 및 출력이 모두 잡음으로 오염되었을 뿐만 아니라 입력에 비해서 출력에 같거나 더 많은 양의 잡음이 개입된 환경에 노출된 Finite Impulse Response 형태의 시스템을 인식하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위해서 입출력의 잡음 수준이 같을 때 최적인 완전최소자승 기법과 출력에만 잡음이 있을 때 최적인 최소자승 기법을 서로 볼록 결합 (convex combination)하여 앞에서 언급한 것과 같은 좀 더 일반화된 잡음 환경에서도 향상된 결과가 나오도록 하였다. 또 제안한 방법이 다양한 잡음 환경에서 응용 가능함을 모의 실험을 통해서 확인하였다.

Machine learning models for predicting the compressive strength of concrete containing nano silica

  • Experimentally predicting the compressive strength (CS) of concrete (for a mix design) is a time-consuming and laborious process. The present study aims to propose surrogate models based on Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) machine learning techniques, which can predict the CS of concrete containing nano-silica. Content of cement, aggregates, nano-silica and its fineness, water-binder ratio, and the days at which strength has to be predicted are the input variables. The efficiency of the models is compared in terms of Correlation Coefficient (CC), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Variance Account For (VAF), Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE), and RMSE to observation's standard deviation ratio (RSR). It has been observed that the SVM outperforms GPR in predicting the CS of the concrete containing nano-silica.

노인의 영양섭취상태에 영향을 미치는 인구사회학적 요인 분석 (Sociodemographic Factors Associated with Nutrients Intake of Elderly in Korea)

  • In recent years, the number and proportion of Korean elderly have grown rapidly, and elderly individuals show a disproportionate risk for poor nutritional status. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of sociodemographic background to nutrient intake of persons 65 years of age or older, living in 15 cities in Korea. Data on 1973 subjects (603 males, 1370 females), who participated in the Korean Elderly Nutrition Survey (2000), were analyzed. Their mean age was 72.3 years and their mean body mass index (BMI) was 24.2 kg/$m^2$. Basic sociodemographic data were obtained through personal interviews. The 98-item semi-food frequency questionnaire, developed and previously validated for Korean middle-aged and elderly subjects, was administered. “Percentage of subjects who consumed under 75% Korean RDA,” “number of nutrients consumed below 75% Korean RDA,” “mean nutrient adequacy ratio,” and “nutrient density” were used to determine nutritional status. Male elderly had better nutritional quality than female elderly. Nutritional quality decreased with age, especially in older elderly (over 75). Elderly who were underweight (BMI 〈 20 kg/$m^2$) showed poorer nutritional quality than those who were normal weight (BMI 20∼25 kg/$m^2$) and overweight (BMI $\geq$ 25 kg/$m^2$). Elderly who lived alone had significantly poorer nutritional quality than those who lived with a spouse, and/or with children. Lower education level and economic dependence also showed lower nutritional quality. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the effects of specific sociodemographic factors on nutritional quality. For number of nutrients under 75% RDA as a dependent variable, education level explained 4.8% of the variance, followed by living status, age, body mass index, gender, and living expense support (Model $R^2$ = 0.091). For mean nutrient adequacy ratio as a dependent variable, model $R^2$ was 0.098. Therefore, sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, body mass index, living status, educational level, and economic status influenced elderly nutrition status. These results indicate that an elderly nutrition intervention should focus on subjects who are poorly educated, living alone, age 75 or older, and/or underweight.

Prediction of stress intensity factor range for API 5L grade X65 steel by using GPR and MPMR

  • The infrastructures such as offshore, bridges, power plant, oil and gas piping and aircraft operate in a harsh environment during their service life. Structural integrity of engineering components used in these industries is paramount for the reliability and economics of operation. Two regression models based on the concept of Gaussian process regression (GPR) and Minimax probability machine regression (MPMR) were developed to predict stress intensity factor range (𝚫K). Both GPR and MPMR are in the frame work of probability distribution. Models were developed by using the fatigue crack growth data in MATLAB by appropriately modifying the tools. Fatigue crack growth experiments were carried out on Eccentrically-loaded Single Edge notch Tension (ESE(T)) specimens made of API 5L X65 Grade steel in inert and corrosive environments (2.0% and 3.5% NaCl). The experiments were carried out under constant amplitude cyclic loading with a stress ratio of 0.1 and 5.0 Hz frequency (inert environment), 0.5 Hz frequency (corrosive environment). Crack growth rate (da/dN) and stress intensity factor range (𝚫K) values were evaluated at incremental values of loading cycle and crack length. About 70 to 75% of the data has been used for training and the remaining for validation of the models. It is observed that the predicted SIF range is in good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations. Further, the performance of the models was assessed with several statistical parameters, namely, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Coefficient of Efficiency (E), Root Mean Square Error to Observation's Standard Deviation Ratio (RSR), Normalized Mean Bias Error (NMBE), Performance Index (ρ) and Variance Account Factor (VAF).

일반화된 감마 신호원의 분산 불일치된 양치화 (Variance Mismatched Quantization of a Generalized Gamma Source)

  • 이 논문은 일반화된 감마 신호원에 최소 평균제곱오차 왜곡을 갖도록 설계된 양자기가 다른 신호원에 사용될때 발생하는 양자기 불일치에 대한 연구로서, 양자기의 여러 불일치 가운데, 설계 신호원과 사용 신호원의 분산이 불일치된, 분산 불일치 문제를 다루었다. 주 내용은 베넷 적분식을 기반으로 하여 유도한 양자기 왜곡의 두 근사수식으로, 첫째 근사식은 양자기의 맨 바깥 경계값의 함수로 표시된 제1차 왜곡 근사식이며, 둘째 근사식은 이 맨바깥 경계값의 근사식을 사용한 제2차 왜곡 근사식이다. 일반화된 감마 신호원의 일종인 라플라스 신호원의 경우에 다양한 분산 불일치에 대해, 양자기의 실제 왜곡을 수치로 구하였으며, 이 실제 왜곡과 두 근사식을 비교하였다. 제1차 및 2차 근사식은 모두, 설계 신호원의 분산에 대한 사용 신호원의 분산 비율이 클수록, 더 작은 양자점수에서도 실제 왜곡에 근접하였으며, 또 양자점의 개수가 64 이상일 때 실제 왜곡의 2~4% 이내의 오차를 보여, 높은 정확도를 갖는 것이 관찰되었다. 이를 종합할 때, 이 논문에서 제시하는 근사식들은, 수식이라는 측면과 정확도라는 측면에서, 가치있는 것으로 평가된다.

스무딩된 주문 정책이 공급사슬의 성과지표에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Smoothed Replenishment Ordering Policy on the Performance Measures in Supply Chain)

  • 본 연구에서는 스무딩된 주문정책이 리드타임, 만족율, 재고비용에 미치는 영향을 연구한다. 이를 위해 스무딩된 order up to 주문정책을 사용하는 하류업체와 make to order 방식을 사용하는 상류업체로 구성된 공급사슬을 사용한다. 스무딩을 하면 리드타임이 예상하는 바와 같이 감소된다. 그러나 스무딩에 의해 하류업체에서의 만족율이 감소하며 재고비용이 증가된다. 한편 상류업체 제조시간의 분산이 평균 제조시간보다 만족율 및 재고비용에 미치는 영향이 더 크므로, 상류업체 제조시간의 변동성을 최소화해야 한다.

Evaluation of translucency of monolithic zirconia and framework zirconia materials

  • PURPOSE. The opacity of zirconia is an esthetic disadvantage that hinders achieving natural and shade-matched restorations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the translucency of non-colored and colored framework zirconia and monolithic zirconia. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The three groups tested were: non-colored framework zirconia, colored framework zirconia with the A3 shade according to Vita Classic Scale, and monolithic zirconia (n=5). The specimens were fabricated in the dimensions of $15{\times}12{\times}0.5mm$. A spectrophotometer was used to measure the contrast ratio, which is indicative of translucency. Three measurements were made to obtain the contrast ratios of the materials over a white background ($L^*w$) and a black background ($L^*b$). The data were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance and Tukey HSD tests. One specimen from each group was chosen for scanning electron microscope analysis. The determined areas of the SEM images were divided by the number of grains in order to calculate the mean grain size. RESULTS. Statistically significant differences were observed among all groups (P<.05). Non-colored zirconia had the highest translucency with a contrast ratio of 0.75, while monolithic zirconia had the lowest translucency with a contrast ratio of 0.8. The mean grain sizes of the non-colored, colored, and monolithic zirconia were 233, 256, and 361 nm, respectively. CONCLUSION. The translucency of the zirconia was affected by the coloring procedure and the grain size. Although monolithic zirconia may not be the best esthetic material for the anterior region, it may serve as an alternative in the posterior region for the bilayered zirconia restorations.

라플라스 신호원에 대한 최소평균제곱오차 홑 양자기의 지지역에 관하여 (On the Support of Minimum Mean-Square Error Scalar Quantizers for a Laplacian Source)

  • 이 논문은 라플라스 밀도 함수에 대한 최적 흩 양자기의 지지역의 증가는 양자점의 개수와 대수적인 관계가 있음을 보여준다. 구체적으로, 분산이 1인 라플라스 밀도함수에 대해서 양자정의 개수 N이 증가할 때 최적 양자기의 경계값에 의해 결정되는 지지역과 $\frac 3{\sqrt{2}}1n\frac N 2$의 비율이 1로 수렴함을 보여준다. 또한 극한 상한값을 유도하여 최적 지지역의 로그적 증가가 그 값을 초과하지 않음을 보였다. 이 결과들로부터 이전부터 경험적으로 연구되어 온 최적 지지역의 로그 증가를 확인 할 수 있다.
