  • In this paper, a Pl controlled feedback closed-loop voltage regulation scheme of the three-phase squirrel cage rotor self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) such as a wind turbine is designed on the basis of the static VAR compensator (SVC) and discussed in experiment fer the promising stand-alone power independent conditioner. The simulation and experimental results of the three-phase SEIG with the simple SVC controller for its stabilized voltage regulation prove the practical effectiveness of the additional SVC control loop scheme including the PI controller with fast response characteristics and steady-sate performance improvement.

  • The wind most of the century, the average wind speed in the coast area 6m/s~8m/s operation as a large wind power generators is not enough to produce. But the generator of proposed wind turbine system is connected to Hydraulic torque converter is the actual development of this usage, the low investment and economic effects appear to be much lower there is. In case of the proposed wind turbine system, is possible to make torque transmission long distance, set up generator somewhere in between the tower or the ground as well as, nacelle weight can be greatly down.

  • This study proposes a development for the l-kW class small wind turbine system, which is applicable to relatively low wind speed region like Korea and has the variable pitch control mechanism. In the aerodynamic design of the wind turbine blade, parametric studies were carried out to determine an optimum aerodynamic configuration which is not only more efficient at low wind speed but whose diameter is not much larger than similar class other blades. A light composite structure, which can endure effectively various loads, was newly designed. In order to evaluate the structural design of the composite blade, the structural analysis was performed by the finite element method. Moreover both structural safety and aerodynamic performance were verified through the prototype test.

  • This paper proposes a novel simulation method of WPGS (Wind Power Generation System). The rotation speed control method of turbine under variable wind speed using the pitch control is proposed. Moreover, when wind speed exceeds the cut-out wind speed, the turbine will be stopped by controlling pitch angle to 90$^{\circ}$, otherwise it will be controlled to steady-state operation. For the purpose of effective simulation, the SWRW (Simulation method for WPGS using Real Weather condition) is used for the utility interactive WPGS simulation in this paper, in which those of three topics for the WPGS simulation: user-friendly method, applicability to grid-connection and the utilization of the real weather conditions, are satisfied. It is impossible to consider the real weather conditions in the WPGS simulation using the EMTP type of simulators and PSPICE, etc. External parameter of the real weather conditions is necessary to ensure the simulation accuracy. The simulation of the WPGS using the real weather conditions including components modeling of wind turbine system is achieved by introducing the interface method of a non-linear external parameter and FORTRAN using PSCAD/EMTDC in this paper. The simulation of long-term, short-term, over cut-out and under cut-out wind speeds will be peformed by the proposed simulation method effectively. The efficiency of wind power generator, power converter and flow of energy are analyzed by wind speed of the long-term simulation. The generator output and current supplied into utility can be obtained by the short-term simulation. Finally, transient-state of the WPGS can be analyzed by the simulation results of over cut-out and under cut-out wind speeds, respectively.

  • This paper presents the efficiency of a floating vertical axis wind turbine with variable-pitch. A model was designed to use the lift force and drag force for blades with various pitch angles. The blade's pitch angle is controlled by the stopper. To validate the efficiency of the wind turbine discussed in this paper, a model test was carried out through a single model efficiency experiment and wave tank experiment. The parameters of the single model efficiency experiment were the wind speed, electronic load, and pitch angle. The wave tank experiment was performed using the most efficient pitch angle from the results of the single model efficiency experiment. According to the results of the wave tank experiment, the surge and pitch motion of a structure slightly affect the efficiency of a wind turbine, but the heave motion has a large effect because the heights of the wind turbine and wind generator are almost the same.

  • This paper proposes a simple adaptive sliding mode control algorithm for controlling a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) of a MW-class direct-driven wind turbine system. The proposed adaptive sliding mode controller does not require accurate knowledge of the PMSG parameter or turbine torque values. The proposed controller can accurately track the reference angular speed computed by the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) algorithm. Finally, this paper gives Matlab/Simulink simulation results to verify the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed adaptive sliding mode controller.

  • In a grid connected variable speed wind turbine, the PCC voltage and the wind power fluctuate as the wind velocity changed. And this voltage variation is changed due to location of PCC. This paper calculate the value of PCC voltage variation which is proportional to the product of the line impedance from the ideal generator to the PCC and the wind turbine output current. And to reduce this PCC voltage variation, this paper calculate the required reactive power analytically using the vector diagram method. Output reactive current is changed, if the reactive current is limited by inverter capacity or grid code have the margin of voltage variation. If the grid connected inverter is controlled by proposed algorithm, the PCC voltage variation is minimized though the wind turbine output change at random. To verify calculated voltage variation and required reactive power, this paper utilized Matlab and PSCAD/EMTDC simulation and real small wind turbine and power system in Sapsido, island in the Yellow Sea.

  • A variable speed wind turbine simulation model for grid connection is developed based on PSCAD/EMTDC. The model consists of wind model, rotor dynamics, synchronous generator, power converter, transformer, distribution line and infinite bus. Implementation of blade characteristics and power converter control strategies are included. Several transient case studies are performed including wind speed change, local load change and grid-side voltage unbalance using developed simulation model. The results of this work can be utilized for study of actual interaction between wind turbine and grid for reliable operation and protection of power system.
