  • For the speed control of motors, the position or speed sensors are necessary to obtain the position information of the rotor. Specially, SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) needs an accurate rotor position data because both the rotor and the stator have a salient pole structure. High functional sensors like resolver or encoder are expensive and have complex connecting lines to the controller so the pure signals are apt to be mixed with noised. In the sight of SRM drives, the high temperature, heavy dust, and the EMI surroundings reduce the reliability of speed and position sensors. Therefore, the speed and position sensorless control algorithms using observer have been accepted widely. In this paper An adaptive sliding observer is described to control the SRM without speed or position sensors. The adaptive sliding observer is set on the basis of variable structure control theory. The sliding surface is constructed by current error terms and this surface guarantees the errors converge to "zero". The stability of observer is affirmed by Lyapunov stability analysis and popov's hyper stability theory.ty theory.

  • In this paper, a neural network(NN) control system is proposed and practically implemented, which is adequate to the induction motor speed control system with frequent load variation. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real adaptive estimation of the motor parameter. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back-propagated to adjust the motor parameter, so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. Designed control system is based on PC-DSP structure for the purposed of easiness of applying NN algorithm. Through computer simulation and experimental results, it is verified that proposed control system is robust to the load variation and practical implementation is possible.

  • A wind turbine simulator is developed for the emulation of variable input torque from the wind energy without actual rotor blades using motor-generator set. The torque command of dc motor is calculated from the characteristic equation of rotor blade during the change of wind speed. Especially the proposed control algorithm takes into account the fact that the moment of inertia of blade is much larger than that of driving motor. If you select the desired value of inertia, the stored/restored energy of the inertia during acceleration/deceleration can be compensated effectively resulting the only net torque is delivered to the generator. The simulator set-up has been designed and implemented using a do motor and drive. Feasibility of the proposed algorithm is verified by computer simulations and experiments.

  • Many Industrial applications require high facultied and high efficiency motor drives. Recently, as such motor driving system, switched reluctance motor ( S R M ) drives are proposed. This paper describes the design features, drive circuits, and performance of 6/4 S R M for high efficiency variable speed drives. The main advantages of these motors lie In high efficiency, simple driving circuitry, and low manufacturing cost. The prototypes have been built and tested, showing satisfactory performance.

  • Recently, SRMs are used in automobiles for power assistant steering, accessory motion control and traction drives. Especially in the motion control and traction drives, safety and efficiency are of paramount importance. The paper describes the essential elements faced in designing and constructing driving circuits for a switched reluctance motor for automobiles. An important factor in the selection of a motor and a drive for industrial application is the cost. The switched reluctance motor(SRM) is a simple, low-cost, and robust motor suitable for variable-speed as well as servo-type applications. With relatively simple converter and control requirements, the SRM is gaining an increasing attention in the drive industry. This paper presents a modified C-dump converter for Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) machine application in the cooling system of automobiles. The experiments are performed to verify the capability of applicate control method on 6/4 salient type SRM.

  • In this paper, three kinds of the inverter topologies for the variable speed drive of 2-phase induction motor are compared and analyzed. The 2-phase inverters are classified into 2-leg, 3-leg, and 4-leg types depending on the number of power switching devices. And they use the output voltage vectors of the different forms according to the inverter topologies. Based on the comparative analyzed results, the effective values of output voltage have been defined by the linear modulation range. Therefore, the motor design guideline is proposed in order to decide a rated voltage of 2-phase induction motor according to the inverter topologies. Also, the computer simulations are carried out to verify the output voltage and current characteristics of each inverter topology.

  • The precise and reliable loss model for induction motor and converter system is very important in order to predict the efficiency performance of variable speed drives. This paper proposes an accurate loss model of induction motor and converter system. The motor losses, such as stator and rotor copper loss, core loss and stray loss, are considered for fundamental and harmonic frequencies. Also considered are the skin effect on rotor resistance, temperature effect on bath stator and rotor resistance, magnetizing inductance saturation, and friction and windage loss. All the above features are incorporated in a synchronous frame dynamic d-q equivalent circuit. The converter system, consisting of a diode rectifier and PWM transistor inverter, is modeled accurately for conduction and switching losses. Validity of the models, in both steady state and transient conditions, is verified by simulations.

  • This paper presents a developed squired cage induction motor for axial flow fan. The developed squirrel cage induction noter for axial flow fan is exchanged the position, rotor and stater. In this method a fan blade is attached to outside rotor. So we can protect the motor from rain and reduce noise, and there is no need to have bending duct to locate the fan motor. Carried out experimental test with this induction motor, and the results were as follows. Starting torque was 21kgㆍcm@120V, maximum efficiency was 0.84@120V. The characteristics of tests were the same as double squirrel-cage type IM.

  • In this paper, we presented a study on the design of permanent magnet rotor for exterior rotor type brushless direct current(BLDC) motor. To reduce the cogging torque and torque ripple, the specific shape and magnetization pattern of permanent magnets in BLDC motors are suggested. Firstly, four permanent magnet models with different shapes and magnetization arrays are presented. The results from the finite element method(FEM), the most effective model for reducing cogging torque and torque ripple was presented. In addition, to confirm the steady state performance, the torque-speed characteristic analysis has been performed with variable speed and load. Finally, the best permanent magnet model for reducing cogging torque and torque ripple with appropriate torque-speed performance was selected through the comparison according to the device volume.
