  • 최근 널리 사용되는 모든 비파괴검사 기술 중 적외선열화상 카메라는 점차 적용 범위를 확대하고 있다. 초음파적외선 열화상은 절대온도 0 K 이상의 모든 물체가 방출하는 적외선 에너지를 검출하여 검사자가 볼 수 있는 화상으로 이미지를 만들어 검사하는 기술에 초음파를 접목하여 결함 부위만을 검출하는 방법으로 비접촉으로 넓은 범위를 빠른 시간에 검사할 수 있는 장점이 있는 기술이다. 본 연구에서는 고유주파수를 변화할 수 있는 터패놀-D 소재의 가변초음파 가진검사 방법을 이용하여 결함 검출의 적용가능성을 연구하였다.

근골격계 초음파검사가 도움이 되는 진료 상황 (Clinical Situations in which Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is Helpful)

  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) has newly evolved by the mechanical improvement of the machine over past several years, becoming a part of imaging techniques for the evaluation of variable diseases in the musculoskeletal system. MSUS has proven diagnostic superiority in pathologies including rotator cuff disease of the shoulder, lateral epicondylitis of the elbow, diseases of the peripheral nerve, detection of intra-articular loose bodies and soft tissue foreign bodies, and in evaluating small superficial soft tissue tumors such as ganglion, epidermoid cyst, and glomus tumor. Besides, MSUS is very useful for obtaining tissue or fluid via percutaneous fine needle aspiration and/or biopsy for the histopathologic diagnosis. Combining MSUS with MR would play a great role in the field of the diagnostic imaging of the musculoskeletal system. The MSUS examiner should have the knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, and of the mechanical and physical properties of ultrasound in order to interpret the ultrasound findings accurately and properly, and to avoid diagnostic errors due to variable artifacts subsequently. The goal of this article is to introduce the capabilities of MSUS in certain kinds of clinical situation and to familiarize the reader with MSUS. For the purpose, author intends to describe this article according not to the disease-, or organ-based, but to the clinical problem-based format.

A Single-Stage 37 dB-Linear Digitally-Controlled Variable Gain Amplifier for Ultrasound Medical Imaging

  • This paper presents a variable gain amplifier (VGA) for an analog front-end (AFE) of ultrasound medical imaging. This VGA has a closed-loop topology and shows a 37-dB-linear characteristic with a single-stage amplifier. It consists of an op-amp, a non-binary-weighted capacitor array, and a gain-control block. This non-binary-weighted capacitor array reduces the required number of capacitors and the complexity of the gain-control block. The VGA has been fabricated in a 0.35-mm CMOS process. This work gives the largest gain range of 37 dB per stage, the largest P1 dB of 9.5 dBm at the 3.3-V among the recent VGA circuits available in the literature. The voltage gain is controlled in the range of [-10, 27] dB in a linear-in-dB scale with 16 steps by a 4-bit digital code. The VGA has a bandpass characteristic with a passband of [20 kHz, 8 MHz].

고주파수 초음파 영상을 위한 저잡음·광대역 수신 시스템 구현 (Implementation of low-noise, wideband ultrasound receiver for high-frequency ultrasound imaging)

  • 고주파수, 고해상도 초음파 영상을 획득하기 위해서는 고주파수 초음파 변환기가 가지는 작은 구경에 따른 낮은 민감도와 침투 깊이에 따른 높은 감쇠량을 극복하여야 한다. 이는 고주파수 초음파 변환기의 본질적인 한계점이므로 수신 시스템을 통하여 그 한계점을 극복하여야 한다. 본 논문은 고주파수, 고해상도 초음파 영상을 위하여 고주파수 초음파 변환기의 본질적인 한계인 낮은 민감도와 높은 감쇠량을 극복할 수 있는 저잡음 광대역 수신 시스템 개발과 특성 평가 결과에 관한 것이다. 개발한 저잡음 광대역 수신 시스템은 80 MHz 이상의 동작 주파수 대역에서 최대 73 dB의 증폭 이득과 48 dB의 가변 이득 범위를 만족하며 ${\pm}1dB$의 증폭 이득 평탄도 성능을 가진다. 또한 개발한 수신 시스템은 상용 리시버에 비하여 8.4 dB 이상의 신호대잡음비 성능과 3.7 dB 이상의 대조도 성능이 우수함을 확인하였다.

Optimization of Ultrasound-assisted Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Salicornia herbacea Powder

  • Salicornia herbacea is rich in natural minerals, dietary fibers, and potentially health-promoting phenolic compounds. In this paper, an experimental design was applied for the optimization of the ultrasound-assisted extraction of phenolic compounds from lyophilized Salicornia herbacea powder. The experiments were conducted in accordance with a five-level, three-variable central composite rotatable design (CCRD), and the effects of solvent concentration, extraction time, and extraction temperature were evaluated via response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal extraction conditions were as follows: ethanol concentration, 76.80%; extraction time, 20 min; and extraction temperature, $33.21^{\circ}C$; and the solvent concentration was the most significant parameter in this process, under which the predicted total phenolic content was 49.91 mg GAE/g sample.

우슬과 초음파가 퇴행성관절염 백서의 관절 연골에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Achyrantis Radixs and Ultrasound in Osteoarthritis Rats Articular Cartilage)

  • Osteoarthritis(OA) diseases are characterized by joint pain, tenderness, limitation of movement, crepitus, occasional effusion, and variable degrees of inflammation without systemic effects. We investigated the effects of Achyrantis radixs cream treatment and low intensity ultrasound in monosodium iodoacetate(MIA) induced experimental osteoarthritis rat. Sprague-Dawley 40 rats of 7-8 weeks, weight $250\;{\pm}\;50$ g were divided into four groups including the control group and ostoarthritis group(30 rats). Histopathological examination, Mankin's score, and immunohistochemical were performed. Histological findings in control group that are similar to those observed in human osteoarthritis, such as disorganization of chondrocytes, erosion and fibrillation of cartilage surface, and subchondral bone exposure. Safranin O-fast green staining revealed that marked diffuse reduction of proteoglycans and chondrocyte treated with MIA. The Mankin's score were closely correlated to the grade of histological findings. The level of Bax and caspase-3 expression decreased experimental groups. This study shows that a Acyranthes Radix cream treatment and low intensity ultrasound exerts a beneficial influence on the severity of chondral lesion in osteoarthritis rats. This treatments could related to a reduced level of chondrocyte apoptosis through anti-apoptotoc capacities of MIA-induced apoptotic protein overexpression.

Effect of Ultrasound on the Mechanical Properties of Electrodeposited Ni-SiC Nano Composite

  • Nano sized SiC particles (270 nm) are easily agglomerated in nickel sulfamate electrolytic bath during a composite electrodeposition process. The agglomeration of nano particles in composite coatings can significantly reduce the mechanical properties of the composite coatings. In this study, Ni-SiC nano composite coatings were fabricated using a conventional electrodeposition process with the aid of ultrasound. Nano particles were found to be distributed homogeneously with reduced agglomeration in the ultrasonicated samples. Substantial improvements in mechanical properties were observed in the composite coatings prepared in presence of ultrasound over those without ultrasound. Ni-SiC composite coatings were prepared with variable ultrasonic frequencies ranging from 24 kHz to 78 kHz and ultrasonic powers up to 300 watts. The ultrasonic frequency of 38 kHz with ultrasonic power of 200 watt was revealed to be the best ultrasonic conditions for homogeneous dispersion of nano SiC particles with improved mechanical properties in the composite coatings. The microstructures, phase compositions, and mechanical properties of the composite coatings were observed and evaluated using SEM, XRD, Vickers microhardness, and wear test. The Vickers microhardness of composite coatings under ultrasonic condition was significantly improved as compared to the coatings without ultrasound. The friction coefficient of the composite coating prepared with an ultrasonic condition was also smaller than the pure nickel coatings. A synergistic combination of superior wear resistance and improved microhardness was found in the Ni-SiC composite coatings prepared with ultrasonic conditions.

골다공증 진단을 위한 초음파 변수의 골밀도에 대한 의존성 (Dependences of Ultrasonic Parameters for Osteoporosis Diagnosis on Bone Mineral Density)

  • 현재 골다공증 진단을 위하여 임상에서 이용되고 있는 정량적 초음파 기술은 종골(발뒤꿈치뼈)에서 음속(speed of sound; SOS) 및 광대역 초음파 감쇠(normalized broadband ultrasound attenuation; nBUA)와 같은 초음파 변수를 측정한다. 본 연구에서는 소 대퇴골로부터 제작된 20개의 해면질골 샘플을 이용하여 골절 위험도가 높은 대퇴골에서 SOS 및 nBUA의 골밀도에 대한 의존성을 살펴보았다. 대퇴골 해면질골 샘플의 SOS 및 nBUA는 1.0 MHz의 중심주파수를 갖는 한 쌍의 초음파 트랜스듀서와 함께 투과법을 이용하여 측정 하였다. 20개의 해면질골 샘플에서 측정된 SOS 및 nBUA는 골밀도와 각각 r = 0.83 및 0.72라는 높은 Pearson 상관계수 (r)를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 SOS 및 nBUA를 독립변수로 하고, 골밀도를 종속변수로 하는 다중선형회귀분석으로부터 다중선형회귀모델의 상관계수는 r = 0.85로서 SOS 또는 nBUA 중 하나만을 독립변수로 하는 단순선형회귀모델의 상관계수보다 높게 나타났다. 이와 같이 초음파 변수와 골밀도 사이의 높은 선형적인 상관관계는 대퇴골에서 측정된 초음파 변수가 대퇴골의 골밀도를 예측하기에 충분한 지표라는 것을 의미한다.

  • 경피적 초음파 유도생검은 진단 및 치료 계획을 정하기 위해 다양한 신체 병변에 대한 병리 확인에 유용한 시술이다. 하지만 깊은 골반 병변은 병리진단이 어려운데 장, 방광, 주요 혈관, 그리고 골반뼈로 인해 경피적 접근이 어렵고 위험하기 때문이다. 여성의 경우 질은 탄력적이고 골반의 내부 장기와 가깝다. 따라서 경질 초음파는 골반 병변에 대한 병리진단을 위해 효과적이고 안전한 길잡이 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 종설의 목적은 경질 초음파 유도생검의 적응증과 방법을 소개하고, 또한 보고된 진단 정확도 및 안정성을 기술하고자 한다.

초음파 골밀도 측정에서 재현성 향상 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Method for Improving Reproducibility in the Ultrasonic Measurement of Bone Mineral Density)

  • It is very important to achieve a high reproducibility in the ultrasonic measurement of bone mineral density. In this study, we examined number of sampling waveform, control of temperature, diameter of region of interest as factors to improve reproducibility. We decided the optimal number of waveforms to be converted to frequency domain as period of 1. We have minimized the effects of variable temperature and constrained generation of micro bubble by keeping temperature within a range of $32\pm0.5^{\circ}C$ with a precise temperature controlling algorithm. We also found the optimal diameter of region of interest to be 13mm. In this paper, we demonstrated the improved reproducibility by controlling various factors affecting the ultrasonic measurement of bone mineral density.
