Based on multi-body dynamic software RecurDyn, this paper proposes a modified form of timing silent chain system combing with the existing problem that vibration and chain tension is too large, which is applied for complicated conditions in a V-type engine, such as high speed, variable loads. The analysis of chain drive meshing characteristics is completed. Using the multi-body dynamic soft-ware RecurDyn, the dynamics characteristics of the improved system is studied, including chain tension, transmission error, chain fluctuations, equivalent spring force in different operating conditions. The study results show that chain tension, transmission error, chain fluctuation and equivalent spring force are within the scope of permission, all of them can meet the design requirement. There-fore, the design of this system is reasonable and practicable. The research results will provide a basis for assessing timing silent chain system in a V-type engine and a theoretical reference for designing and optimizing the timing silent chain system.

Electric propulsion motors are operated from a variable frequency drive, which supplies power to motors at a frequency appropriate to the desired speed. The objective of this study was to evaluate power converters for shipboard applications and to recommend converters that meet lower harmonic distortion levels and torque ripples. Two systems were studied in detail : Cyclo-converters and PWM-converters. Cyclo-converters are the obvious choice where size, weight and efficiency are the most critical issues. However they have a disadvantage in power factor and they produce severe torque ripples in the motor which makes them unacceptable without special systems. PWM-converters produces better motor current waveform and eliminates common mode voltage issues at the motor, but suffers a multiple stages of power conversion and the isolating transformer. Results of this case study show that PWM-converters are more advanced and efficient drives for induction motor of electric propulsion ship.
The integration of intelligent devices, devices-level networks, and software into motor control systems can deliver improved diagnostics, fast warnings for increased system reliability, design flexibility, and simplified wiring. Remote access to motor-control information also affords an opportunity for reduced exposure to hazardous voltage and improved personnel safety during startup and trouble-shooting. This paper presents LonWorks fieldbus networked intelligent induction control system architecture. Experimental bed system with two inverter motor driving system for controlling 1.5kW induction motor is configured for LonWorks networked intelligent motor control. In recent years, MCCs have evolved to include component technologies, such as variable-speed drives, solid-state starters, and electronic overload relays. Integration was accomplished through hardwiring to a programmable logic controller (PLC) or distributed control system (DCS). Devicelevel communication networks brought new possibilities for advanced monitoring, control and diagnostics. This LonWorks network offered the opportunity for greatly simplified wiring, eliminating the bundles of control interwiring and corresponding complex interwiring diagrams. An intelligent MCC connected in device level control network proves users with significant new information for preventing or minimizing downtime. This information includes warnings of abnormal operation, identification of trip causes, automated logging of events, and electronic documentation. In order to show the application of the multi-motors control system, the prototype control system is implemented. This paper is the first step to drive multi-motors with serial communication which can satisfy the real time operation using LonWorks network.
Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is most commonly used in the automotive industry as a traction motor for electric vehicle (EV). In electric vehicle, the torque output rapidly changes according to the operation of the accelerator and the braking of the driver. The transient torques are thus generated very frequently in accordance with the variable speed control of the driver. Therefore, in this paper, a method for improving the torque response in the transient states of IPMSM is proposed. In order to complement the disadvantages of the conventional PI current controller in the field oriented control (FOC), the finite-state model predictive current control and 2D-LUT is applied to improve the torque response at the torque transient period. Simulation and experiment results are given to verify the reliability of the proposed method.
Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.
To take advantage of electric propulsion, several large vessel kinds, namely, cruise vessels, icebreakers, drill ships, and warships, have been generally designed with Integrated Power System (IPS). Although most of these vessels have adopted AC distribution IPS, DC distribution IPS ships have recently emerged as a new promising technology thanks to the availability of the products related to the DC distribution system, in which the system's major advantages over AC distribution are reduced weight and fuel consumption. This paper presents the comparison results of a 10-t class fishing boat for the AC distribution and DC distribution cases. By replacing AC distribution system with DC distribution, 31-41% reduction in the weight of the electrical equipment weight and 20-25% reduction in the fuel consumption are expected.
Recently. switched reluctance motor is noticed because it is simple in structure and mechanically strong. SRM has great competitive power, and the study is developed about improving the characteristics of SRM. The current density of winding becomes larger in designing SRM that has the characteristics of the low voltage and high current. Hence the current density of SRM of a vehicle is high. And in order that we drive SRM in variable speed and protect the switching device. the current of SRM is limited by chopping. So it is impossible to obtain object value of output characteristics by limited current. In this paper, the author design the shape of SRM from Miller's output equation, and verify the design of SRM by using FEM. The waveform of chopping current is predicted by simulation and concur with experimental result. And the torque is improved by applying overlap current.
The V/F slip frequency constant control methods are used for driving induction motor with load commutated current source inverter, that is. constant V/F and slip frequency driving is used to load commutate the inverter below the critical frequency, while constant voltage and variable frequency and slip frequency driving are used in above the critical region. In order to applicate the load commutated current source inverter to the general use, speed control range of induction noter is selected to two times at rated frequency. Therefore, economical application is possible because of the maximum reduction of the condenser of the inverter output port. The use of the proposed force commutated circuit improves the false operation of force commutated circuit and inverter commutation failure which are produced by the influence of the lower-order harmonics of the conventional load commutated current source inverter at starting.
The conventional drive system of SRM has a current sensor per each phase. The torque demand signal generated by the outer control loop is translated into individual current reference signal for each phase. The torque is controlled by regulating these currents. Using the SRM in a variable-speed control, the phase currents are generally regulated to achieve a square wave. The simplest form of current regulation uses fixed frequency delta modulation of the phase voltages. The aim of this paper is to regulate 3-phases current of SRM by only single current sensor using delta modulation with digital chip. In this paper, the asymmetric bridge converter which is able to control independently phases and be excited simultaneously is used as the driver system for 6/4 poles SRM. And the current sensor is replaced 3 sensors of each phase with only one on bus line of converter so as to detect current of every phase. The proposed delta modulation technique has been implemented in a simple digital logic circuit using EPLD(Electrically Programmable Logic Device). This method is verified through simulation and experiment results.
