In this paper, a novel varactor-tuned combline bandpass filter is presented. The coupling varactor diode between line elements is introduced to control the passband bandwidth so that the passband bandwidth can be maintained almost constant within the tuning range. The equivalent circuit and design equations are derived, and the optimum design is discussed. A 1.7 GHz, two-pole bandpass filter with a bandwidth of $4.5\%$ was constructed. The absolute passband bandwidth was maintained almost constant within more than 0.4 octave tuning range.

In this paper, we propose a design method of the millimeter-wave(W-Band) waveguide cavity harmonic voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) using a Gunn diode for the armor sensor. Using the 3-dimensional simulation tool(Ansoft $HFSS^{TM}$), we were able to find the impedance matching point between waveguide and Gunn diode and estimate the oscillation frequency. A varactor diode is used for the frequency tuning, and we find out the equation for the calculation of the tunable frequency range. The designed VCO shows good performances; 17dBm output power at 94GHz center frequency, 520MHz frequency tuning range similar to the estimated value(480MHz).

In this paper, we propose a varactor-diodeless voltage-controlled oscillator operating at X-band, and verify the possibility of applying to a receiver for microwave radar signal detection applications. The proposed VCO is realized by only single RF BJT device as a varactor diode is substitued by a intrinsic collector-base PN-junction of the active device which is used to generate negative resistance. The fabricated VCO meets the specification of the receiver, which has a 11.20~11.75 GHz tuning bandwidth with respect to the tuning voltage, 1.0~7.0 V, output power of 9.0~12.0 dBm and linear frequency tuning performance.

In this paper, a VCDRO(Voltage Control Dielectirc Resonator Oscillator) for signal source of doppler radar system is designed and fabricated. The proposed VCDRO is made with new tuning mechanism using CPW line. The coplanar waveguide of $\lambda_{g}$/2 in length with varactor diode is placed on the metallization side under the dielectric resonator and coupled to it. Tuning varactor diode is mounted at one end of the CPW. The proposed circuit tuned by a CPW allows one more varactor diode to be mounted on the optimized CPW, where a greater sensitivity of frequency tuning is needed. With varying the biasing voltage for the varactor diode from 0 V to 15 V, output frequency tuning of 12 MHz is obtained. The PLDRO exhibits output power of 16.5 dBm with phase noise in the phase locked state characteristic of -115 dBc/Hz at 100 Hz, -105 dBc/Hz at the 10 kHz, and -102 dBc/Hz at 1 Hz offset from 10.525 GHz , respectively.

A 2-pole tunable bandpass filter was design and fabricated using ceramic coaxial resonators and varactor diodes for UHF band. By inspection of frequency characteristics of the T-and $\pi$-type inverter equivalent circuits, we can design a two-pole tunable BPF with only two varactors. The measured data of the filter show 800 MHz-900 MHz tunable center frequency range, 4.5 dB insertion loss, 0.5 dB passband ripple and at least 15 dB return loss, which agree well with the simulated results.

This paper presents a tunable composite right/left-handed (CRLH) delay line for a delay line discriminator that linearizes modulated frequency sweep in a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar transmitter. The tunable delay line consists of 8 cascaded unit cells with series varactor diodes and shunt inductors. The reverse bias voltage of the varactor diode controlled the group delay through its junction capacitance. The measured results demonstrate a group delay of 8.12 ns and an insertion loss of 4.5 dB at 250 MHz, while a control voltage can be used to adjust the group delay by approximately 15 ns. A group delay per unit cell of approximately 1 ns was obtained, which is very large when compared with previously published results. This group delay can be used effectively in FMCW radar transmitters.

In this work, we demonstrated a 77 GHz waveguide VCO with transition from WR-12 to WR-10 for anti-collision radar applications. The fabricated waveguide VCO consists of a GaAs-based Gunn diode, a varactor diode, a waveguide transition, and two bias posts for operating as a LPF and a resonator. The cavity is designed for fundamental mode at 38.5 GHz and operated at second hormonic of 77 GHz. The waveguide transition has a 1.86 dB of insertion loss and -30.22 dB of S11 at the center frequency of 77 GHz. The fabricated VCO achieves an oscillation bandwidth of 870 MHz. Output power is from 12.0 to 13.75 dBm and phase noise is -100.78 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency from the carrier.

We designed and fabricated VCO using inductive reactance variation at 2GHz. A varactor diode is one of the main devices in VCO, which varies capacitance depending on reverse voltage. In this paper, a varactor diode is not used as a variable capacitive reactance device but as an inductive device. The circuit design and simulation have been carried out using HP-MDS. The fabricated VCO is measured using the HP 8532B spectrum analyzer and the HP 4352B VCO/PLL analyzer. The experimental result shows the phase noise -110dBc/Hz at a 100kHz offset frequency, the control voltage sensitivity of 23MHz/V and a -3.5dBm output power with a D.C. current consumption of 5.9mA. The simulation and measurements show exact agreement except with regard to the oscillation frequency. The measured oscillation frequency is lower than the simulation result because there is some parasitic inductance in the PCB layout.

This paper described on the varactor tuning Gunn oscillator for X band. Analyzed the coplanar 2 post case using the dyadic Green's function then derived the obstacle network for the incident TE10 mode. For the electronical tuning, used the tuning varactor diode which has a high speed dynamic response characteristic and high Q. Oscillation frequency, switching mode, and stable oscillation point were calculated by the computer simulation. In the expriments, switching mode was occurred at 18 mm, 32.5 mm of the short tcircuit position, respectively. The general characteristics of the varactor tuning Gunn oscillator were abruptly changed by the moving of the short circuit and the variation of the bias voltage.

In this paper, a frequency tunable double band-stop resonator (BSR) with voltage control by varactor diodes is suggested. It makes use of a half-wavelength shunt stub as its conventional basic structure, which is replaced by the distributed LC block. Taking advantage of the nonlinear relationship between the frequency and electrical length of the distributed LC block, a dual-band device can be designed easily. With two varactor diodes, the stop-band of the resonator can be easily tuned by controlling the electrical length of the resonator structure. The measurement results show the tuning ranges of the two operating frequencies to be 1.82 GHz to 2.03 GHz and 2.81 GHz to 3.03 GHz, respectively. The entire size of the resonator is $10mm{\times}11mm$, which is very compact.
