Stacking faults in SiC whiskers grown by three different growth mechanisms; vapor-solid(VS), two-stage growth(TS), and vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) mechanism in the carbothermal reduction system were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The content of stacking faults in SiC whiskers increased with decreasing the diameter of whiskers, i.e., the small diameter whiskers (<1 $\mu\textrm{m}$) grown by the VS, TS, and VLS mechanisms have heavy stacking faults whereas the large diameter whiskers(>2$\mu\textrm{m}$) grown by the VLS mechanism have little stacking faults. Heavy stacking faults of small diameter whiskers was probably due to the high specific lateral surface area of small diameter whiskers.
$TiO_2$ nanowires were self-catalytically synthesized on bare Si(100) substrates using metallorganic chemical vapor deposition. The nanowire formation was critically affected by growth temperature. The $TiO_2$ nanowires were grown at a high density on Si(100) at $510^{\circ}C$, which is near the complete decomposition temperature ($527^{\circ}C$) of the Ti precursor $(Ti(O-iPr)_2(dpm)_2)$. At $470^{\circ}C$, only very thin (< $0.1{\mu}m$) $TiO_2$ film was formed because the Ti precursor was not completely decomposed. When growth temperature was increased to $550^{\circ}C$ and $670^{\circ}C$, the nanowire formation was also significantly suppressed. A vaporsolid (V-S) growth mechanism excluding a liquid phase appeared to control the nanowire formation. The $TiO_2$ nanowire growth seemed to be activated by carbon, which was supplied by decomposition of the Ti precursor. The $TiO_2$ nanowire density was increased with increased growth pressure in the range of 1.2 to 10 torr. In addition, the nanowire formation was enhanced by using Au and Pt catalysts, which seem to act as catalysts for oxidation. The nanowires consisted of well-aligned ~20-30 nm size rutile and anatase nanocrystallines. This MOCVD synthesis technique is unique and efficient to self-catalytically grow $TiO_2$ nanowires, which hold significant promise for various photocatalysis and solar cell applications.
The yttria stabilized zirconia(YSZ) thin films for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) were fabricated by an electrochemical vapor deposition(EVD) technique using YCl3+ZrCl4+H2O gas system. The YSZ films were deposited under reduced pressure at the temperature of 1000~120$0^{\circ}C$ on the porous alumina substrates. The deposition rate, chemical composition and growth morphology were investigated by SEM, XRD, EDS. The growth rates of the films obeyed a parabolic rate law, representing that the growing process is controlled by an electrochemical transport through the YSZ film. The Y2O3 content of the films was about 10 mol%, equal to the composition of metal chloride reactant gases, approximately. The YSZ films were highly dense, the growing features showed columnar structure and surface morphologies were changed with the EVD conditions.
High-Quality 1-Dimensional InN single crystalline have been grown by Halide Vapor-Phase Epitaxy on the Au catalyst coated Si substrate using the vapor-liquid-solid growth mechanism. We have been grown 1-dimension InN nanowires having controlled the growth conditions for substrate temperature and gases flow rate. The grown InN nanowire of characteristics for morphologies, crystal structure, and element analysis were carried out by SEM, HR-TEM, and EDS respectively. And the defects of InN crystalline were analyzed by indexing of selective area diffraction pattern with attached HR-TEM. We have successfully obtained the defect-free 1-dimensional InN single crystalline nanowire at the atmosphere pressure.
One-dimensional aluminum nitride (AlN) nanostructures were synthesized by calcining an Al(OH)(succinate) complex, which contained a very small amount of iron as a catalyst, under a mixed gas flow of nitrogen and CO (1 vol%). The complex decomposed into a homogeneous mixture of alumina and carbon at the molecular level, resulting in the lowering of the formation temperature of the AlN nanostructures. The morphology of the nanostructures such as nanocone, nanoneedle, nanowire, and nanobamboo was controlled by varying the reaction conditions, including the reaction atmosphere, reaction temperature, duration time, and ramping rate. Iron droplets were observed on the tips of the AlN nanostructures, strongly supporting that the nanostructures grow through the vapor-liquid-solid mechanism. The variation in the morphology of the nanostructures was well explained in terms of the relationship between the diffusion rate of AlN vapor into the iron droplets and the growth rate of the nanostructures.

We report the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNT) on Invar-42 plates using coal tar pitch (CTP) by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The solid phase CTP is used as an inexpensive carbon source since it produces a bunch of hydrocarbon gases such as $CH_4$ and other $C_xH_v$ by thermal decomposition over $450^{\circ}C$. The Invar-42 is a representative Ni-based ferrous alloy and can be used repetitively as a substrate for CNT growth because Ni and Fe are used as very active catalytic elements. We changed mixing ratio of carrier gases, argon and hydrogen, and temperature of growth region. It was found that the optimum gas ratio and temperature for high quality CNT growth are $Ar:H_2=400:400$ sccm and $1000^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, the carbon nanoball (CNB) was also obtained by just changing the mixing ratio to $Ar:H_2=100:600$ sccm. Finally, CTP can be employed as a versatile carbon source to produce various carbon-based nanomaterials, such as CNT and CNB.
A correct understanding of vibration-based degradation is crucial from the standpoint of maintenance for Steam Generators (SG) as crucial mechanical equipment in nuclear power plants. This study has established a novel approach to developing a model for investigating tube bundle degradation according to crack growth caused by two-phase Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV). An important step in the approach is to calculate the two-phase flow field parameters between the SG tube bundles in various zones using the porous media model to determine the velocity and vapor volume fraction. Afterward, to determine the vibration properties of the tube bundles, the Fluid-Solid Interaction (FSI) analysis is performed in eighteen thermal-hydraulic zones. Tube bundle degradation based on crack growth using the sixteen most probable initial cracks and within each SG thermal-hydraulic zone is performed to calculate useful lifetime. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model, Paris law, and Wiener process model are considered to model the turbulent crossflow around the tube bundles, simulation of elliptical crack growth due to the vibration characteristics, and estimation of SG tube bundles degradation, respectively. The analysis shows that the tube deforms most noticeably in the zone with the highest velocity. As a result, cracks propagate more quickly in the tube with a higher height. In all simulations based on different initial crack sizes, it was observed that zone 16 experiences the greatest deformation and, subsequently, the fastest degradation, with a velocity and vapor volume fraction of 0.5 m/s and 0.4, respectively.

ZnO nanostructures have a lot of interest for decades due to its varied applications such as light-emitting devices, power generators, solar cells, and sensing devices etc. To get the high performance of these devices, the factors of nanostructure geometry, spacing, and alignment are important. So, Patterning of vertically- aligned ZnO nanowires are currently attractive. However, many of ZnO nanowire or nanorod fabrication methods are needs high temperature, such vapor phase transport process, metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy, thermal evaporation, pulse laser deposition and thermal chemical vapor deposition. While hydrothermal process has great advantages-low temperature (less than $100^{\circ}C$), simple steps, short time consuming, without catalyst, and relatively ease to control than as mentioned various methods. In this work, we investigate the dependence of ZnO nanowire alignment and morphology on si substrate using of nanosphere template with various precursor concentration and components via hydrothermal process. The brief experimental scheme is as follow. First synthesized ZnO seed solution was spun coated on to cleaned Si substrate, and then annealed $350^{\circ}C$ for 1h in the furnace. Second, 200nm sized close-packed nanospheres were formed on the seed layer-coated substrate by using of gas-liquid-solid interfacial self-assembly method and drying in vaccum desicator for about a day to enhance the adhesion between seed layer and nanospheres. After that, zinc oxide nanowires were synthesized using a low temperature hydrothermal method based on alkali solution. The specimens were immersed upside down in the autoclave bath to prevent some precipitates which formed and covered on the surface. The hydrothermal conditions such as growth temperature, growth time, solution concentration, and additives are variously performed to optimize the morphologies of nanowire. To characterize the crystal structure of seed layer and nanowires, morphology, and optical properties, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) studies were investigated.

Recently, the nanowire configuration of GST showed nanosecond-level phase switch at very low power dissipation, suggesting that the nanowires could be ideal for data storage devices. In spite of many advantages of IST materials, their feasibility in both thin films and nanowires for electronic memories has not been extensively investigated. The synthesis of the chalcogenide nanowires was mainly preformed via a vapor transport process such as vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth at a high temperature. However, in this study, IST nanowires as well as thin films were prepared at a low temperature (${\sim}250^{\circ}C$) by metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD) method, which is possible for large area deposition. The IST films and/or nanowires were selectively grown by a control of working pressure at a constant growth temperature by MOCVD. In-Sb-Te NWs will be good candidate materials for high density PRAM applications. And MOCVD system is powerful for applying ultra scale integration cell.

Gallium Oxide (Ga2O3) has been widely investigated for the optoelectronic applications due to its wide bandgap and the optical transparency. Recently, with the development of fabrication techniques in nanometer scale semiconductor materials, there have been an increasing number of extensive reports on the synthesis and characterization of Ga2O3 nano-structures such as nano-wires, nano-belts, and nano-dots. In contrast to typical vapor-liquid-solid growth mode with metal catalysts to synthesis 1-dimensional nano-wires, there are several difficulties in fabricating the nano-structures by using sputtering techniques. This is attributed to the fact that relatively low growth temperatures and higher growth rate compared with chemical vapor deposition method. In this study, Ga2O3 nanowires (NWs) were synthesized by using radio-frequency magnetron sputtering method. The NWs were then coated by Au thin films and annealed under Ar or N2 gas enviroment with no supply of Gallium and Oxygen source. Several samples were prepared with varying the post annealing parameters such as gas environment annealing time, annealing temperature. Samples were characterized by using XRD, SEM, and PL measurements. In this presentation, the details of fabrication process and physical properties of branched Ga2O3 NWs will be reported.
