In this work, we investigated the variation of optical characteristics with the thickness of bulk GaN grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy(HVPE) to evaluate applicability as GaN substrates in fabrication of high-brightness optical devices and high-power devices. We fabricated 2-inch GaN substrates by using HVPE method of various thickness (0.4, 0.9, 1.5 mm) and characterized the optical property with the variation of defect density and the residual stress using chemical wet etching, Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence. As a result, we confirmed the correlation of optical properties with GaN crystal thickness and applicability of high performance optical devices via fabrication of homoepitaxial substrate.

Lithium niobate single crystals with various [Li]/[Nb] ratios were grown by the Czochralski method from melts having compositions varing between 48.6 ~ 58.0 mol % $Li_2O$. A vapor transport equilibration technique has been used to improve the homogeneity and adjust the [Li]/[Nb] ratio in small $LiNbO_3$ single crystals grown by the Czochralski method. When equilibrated with a Li-rich powder (65 mol%$Li_2O$), containing a mixture of $LiNbO_3$ and $Li_3NbO_4$, crystals of nearly stoichiometric composition can be obtained. This was established by studying the composition dependence of the following properties; lineshape, intensity and linewidth for the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of $Fe^{3+}$ energy of the fundamental absorption edge and $OH^-$ absorption spectra.

This research aims todevelopa compression/absorption hybrid heat pump system using an $NH_3/H_2O$ as working fluid. The heatpump cycle is based on a combination of compression and absorption cycles. The cycle consists of two-stage compressors, absorbers, a desorber, a desuperheater, solution heat exchangers, a solution pump, a rectifier, and a liquid/vapor separator. The compression/absorption hybrid heat pump was designed to produce hot water above $90^{\circ}C$ using high-temperature glide during a two-phase heat transfer. Distinct characteristics of the nonlinear temperature profile should be considered to maximize the performance of the absorber. In this study, the performance of the absorber was investigated depending on the capacity, shape, and arrangementof the plate heat exchangers with regard tothe concentration and distribution at the inlet of the absorber.
The solubilities of $CO_2$ in 20wt% and 30wt% aqueous AMP solution were obtained from experiments at 40, 50, 60, 70, $80^{\circ}C$. Using the modified Kent-Eisenberg model, equilibrium constants and correlations were determined from the regression of experimental results of 30wt% aqueous AMP solution. There were good agreements between the predicted $CO_2$ solubilities in 20wt% aqueous AMP solution and experimented values. The prediction was conducted at the condition in the literature and the predicted values calculated from the model and correlations which were obtained from this work agree well with the prediction from Deshmukh-Mather model. Thus, the modified Kent-Eisenberg model and correlated equations suggested by this work, resonably well represent vapor-liquid equilibrium of $CO_2$ with aqueous AMP solution. The calculation of chemical species concentration in the liquid phase was performed uslng equilibrium model and from this calculation, we confirm that good absorption capacity is due to the formation of unstable carbamate. Heat of solution(${\Delta}Hs$) was calculated from the solubility data using the Gibbs-Helmholtz equation.
The Cretaceous Chaeyaksan basaltic rocks consist mainly of basaltic tuffs intercalating three layers of basalt. Stratigraphically, the rocks are located between the upper Songnaedong Formation and the lower Geoncheonri Formation and contain plagioclase, augite, hornblende, and a few olivine phenocrysts. Geochemically, they show calc-alkaline characteristics in some immobile element content, but show the alkaline suite feature in the mobile major element composition. The basalts are widely spilitized but some of them is altered to shoshonitic rocks with more calcic plagioclase, calcite, and chlorite, and adularia veinlets are common in the rocks. It is supposed that the post-eruption alteration of the rocks is done through alkali-replacement by hydrothermal solution or vapor rather than by low grade regional metamorphism. It is considered that A1 in hornblende will be available for estimating the pressure of the pre-eruption magma in the reservoir although the plagioclase of the rocks are highly albitized. The crystallization pressure was calculated as 5.7Kb by the equation of Johnson and Rutherford(l989) incorporating of the effect of overestimate of .41T in hornblende in the case of quartz-free rocks. Application of the estimated temperature, pressure and the constituent of phenocrysts of the rocks to the experimental P-T phase diagram for basalts established by Green(1982) indicates the crystallization course and succession of growth of the phenocrysts during of rising and cooling of the magma reservoir; augite + augite and olivine + augite, olivine, and hornblende -+ augite and hornblende+ augite, hornblende, and plagioclase. Such evolution course of the magma may include crystal fractionation by the phenocrysts crystallization and contamination by country rock in lower crust.

The most widely used piezoelectric ceramics are lead oxide based ferroelectrics (PZT). However, the toxicity of lead oxide and its high vapor pressure during processing have led to a demand for alternative lead-free piezoelectric materials. We synthesized Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics of $0.96(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})NbO_3-0.04SrZrO_3+x$ mol% $ZrO_2$ [KNN-SZ+$xZrO_2$; x= 0~0.10] doped with 0.1 wt% $MnO_2$ by a conventional solid state method. We investigated the piezoelectric properties and microstructures of these disk samples sintered in reduced atmosphere in order to evaluate the possibility of the multilayered piezoelectric ceramics having the base metal such as Ni as a internal electrode. All of these KNN-SZ samples sintered in 3%$H_2-97%N_2$ atmosphere at $1,140^{\circ}C$ exhibit pure perovskite structure irrespective of the content of $ZrO_2$. Meanwhile, the sintering denisty and piezoelectric properties such as $K_p$, $Q_m$ and $d_{33}$ of KNN-SZ samples as a function of $ZrO_2$ content show the maxima ($k_p$=28.07%, $Q_m$= 101.34, $d_{33}$= 156 pC/N) at x= 0.04 and it is likely that there is some morphotropic phase boundary(MPB) in this KNN-SZ+$xZrO_2$ composition system. These results indicate that the ceramic composition is a promising candidate material for applications in lead free multilayer piezoelectric ceramics.
It is very important to minimize the damage of latent fingerprints at enhancing the contrast. This study proves the enhancement effects of cyanoacrylate-fumed latent fingerprints using p-dimethylaminobenzealdehyde (DMAB) on semi-porous surfaces and the influence factors. The latent fingerprints in experiment were developed for cyanoacrylate treatment in a vacuum chamber and used after drying at room temperature for 24 hours. For fluorescence staining, the cyanoacrylate-developed marks using DMAB were sublimated during 48 hours under the different conditions of surface area, temperature, atmospheric pressure. First experiment showed how surface area effects on the sublimation rate and fluorescence intensity by DMAB of particle size and container size. In addition, the fluorescence staining using DMAB with solvent-free contact method had the greatest fluorescence intensity after 36 hours and a low fluorescence intensity over a certain size of surface area. Second experiment showed that the evaporation of DMAB solid crystals got a satisfying result in a temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and reduced time to get the greatest fluorescence intensity. It took a long time to get a optimum level of fluorescence intensity at $30^{\circ}C$ or more and it was less effective in fluorescence intensity. Third experiment on the pressure indicated that the fluorescence intensity of vacuum was weaker than nonvacuum but it was inapplicable to very high variations in pressure.

$H_5PMo_{10}V_2O_{40}$ ($PMo_{10}V_2$) catalyst chemically immobilized on sulfur-containing mesoporous carbon (S-MC) was prepared, and it was applied to the benzyl alcohol oxidation reaction. S-MC was synthesized by a templating method using SBA-15 and p-toluenesulfonic acid as a templating agent and a carbon precursor, respectively. S-MC was then modified to have a positive charge, and thus, to provide sites for the immobilization of $PMo_{10}V_2$. By taking advantage of the overall negative charge of $[PMo_{10}V_2O4_{40}]^{5-}$, $PMo_{10}V_2$ catalyst was immobilized on the S-MC support as a charge matching component. It was revealed that $PMo_{10}V_2$ species were finely and molecularly dispersed on the S-MC via chemical immobilization. In the vapor-phase oxidation of benzyl alcohol, $PMo_{10}V_2$/S-MC catalyst showed higher conversion of benzyl alcohol and higher yield for benzaldehyde and benzoic acid than unsupported $PMo_{10}V_2$ catalyst. The enhanced catalytic performance of $PMo_{10}V_2$/S-MC was due to fine dispersion of $PMo_{10}V_2$ species on the S-MC via chemical immobilization.
In the present study, the possibility of recovering and recycling the silicon carbide(SiC) from a silicon sludge by removing Fe and Si impurities was investigated. Si and SiC were separated from the silicon sludge using centrifugation. The separated SiC concentrate consisted of Fe, Si and SiC, in which Fe and Si were removed to recover the pure SiC. Leaching with acid/alkali solution was compared with the vapor-phase chlorination. The Fe concentration removed in the SiC was 49 ppm, and it was separated by leaching with 1 M HCl solution at $80^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The Si concentration removed in the SiC was 860 ppm, and it was separated by leaching with 1M NaOH solution at $50^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The SiC concentrate was chlorinated in a tubular reactor, 2.4 cm in diameter and 32 cm in length. The boat filled with SiC concentrate was located at the midpoint of the alumina tube, then, the chlorine and nitrogen gas mixture was introduced. The Fe and Si concentration removed in the SiC were 48 ppm and 405 ppm, respectively, at $500^{\circ}C$ reactor temperature, 4 h reaction time, 300 cc/min gas flow rate, and 10% $Cl_2$ gas mole fraction.
Clear and homogeneous glass inclusions are well preserved at the rim of the quartz phenocrysts of tuff from Sunshin epithermal Au deposit, Haenam, although the host rocks experienced extensive silicification and argillic alteration. Glass inclusion vary in size from $5\;{\mu}m$ to larger than $200\;{\mu}m$ consisting of glass(60~80 vol%) + vapor bubble(15~30 vol%) $\pm$ daughter crystals(<10 vol%). Most of glass inclusions are cubic to rectangular in shape, indicating that the host quartz grew in the stability field of $\beta$-quartz. All the glass inclusions appear to be primary. Glass inclusions are composed of highly evolved high-K calc-alkaline rhyolites, which can represent the final liquidus phase of the magma system. The $Au_2O_3$ concentration (<0.30 wt%) is trivial in the glass, indicating there was no enrichment in the final residual melt. Textural characteristics suggest that magma was water-saturated shortly before or during the eruption. $H_2O$ content of the glass (ca. 2-4 wt%) suggests a water saturation pressure($P_{H2O}$) of about 300-900 bars. This pressure implies a minimum depth of 0.8-2.5 km for the magma chamber.
