  • It should be noted that the critical chloride threshold level is not considered to be a unique value for all conditions. This value is dependent on concrete mixture proportions, cement type and constituents, presence of admixtures, environmental factors, steel reinforcement surface conditions, and other factors. In this study, the accelerated corrosion test for reinforcing steel was conducted by electrochemical and sea water-circulated method, respectively and during the test, corrosion monitoring by half cell potential method was carried out to estimate the critical chloride threshold value when corrosion for reinforcing steel in concrete was perceived. For this purpose, lollypop and beam test specimens were made for $31.4\%,\;41.5\%\;and\;49.7\%$ of w/c. respectively and then the accelerated corrosion test for reinforcing steel was executed. It was observed from the test that the time to initiation of corrosion was found to be different with water-cement ratio and the critical chloride threshold value was found to range from 0.91 to $1.27kg/m^3$.

  • Building deterioration reflects the degradation of basic building performance including structural performance, energy performance, durability, and safety, and it also includes perceived deterioration, which considers a user-based perspective. More than 50% of the existing buildings in Korea are over 15 years old and public buildings compose 2.5% of all buildings domestically. Therefore, there are several different problems, such as poor energy efficiency, structural performance, and safety. To address the challenges of increasing stock in deteriorated buildings, it is necessary to make decisions about reconstruction or renovation. In this study, we propose a new method to evaluate public building value with a contingent valuation method (CVM). By estimating willing-to-pay (WTP) from users of private buildings in similar situation with the public building, it is possible to compare market prices and calculate a correction factor to adjust the WTP data. Finally, we apply the correction factor to the WTP of a public building and estimate market price, willingness to pay (WTP). Finally, we apply the correction factor to willing to pay (WTP) of public building and estimate market price.

  • In the recommendation system that recommends services to a specific user by using the estimation value of other users for users' recommendation service, collaborative filtering methods are widely used. But such recommendation systems have problems that exact classification is not possible because a specific user is classified to already classified group in the course of clustering and inexact result can be recommended in case of big errors in users' estimation values. In this paper, in order to increase estimation accuracy, the researchers suggest a recommendation system that applies collaborative filtering after reclassifying on the basis of a specific user's classification items and then finding and correcting the estimation values of the users beyond the critical value of time. This system uses a method where a specific user is not classified to already classified group in the course of clustering but a group is reorganized on the basis of the specific user. In addition, the researchers correct estimation information by cutting off the subordinate 10% from the trimmed mean of samples and then applies weight over time to the remaining data. As the result of an experiment, the suggested method demonstrated about 14.9%'s more accurate estimation result in case of using MAE than general collaborative filtering method.

  • This paper is to discuss analytical techniques to estimate demand sizes and volumes that determine optimal locations for multiple facilities for a given services. While demand size estimation is a core part of location modeling to enhance solution quality and practical applicability, the estimation method has been used in limited and restrict parts such as a single population centroid in a given larger census boundary area or small theoretical application experiments(e.s. census track and enumeration district). Therefore, this paper strives to develop an analytical estimation method of demand size that converts area based demand data to point based population weighted centroids. This method is free to spatial boundary units and more robust to estimate accurate demand volumes regardless of geographic boundaries. To improve the estimation accuracy, this paper uses house weighted value to the population centroid calculation process. Then the population weighted centroids are converted to individual demand points on a grid formated surface area. In turn, the population weighted centroids, demand points and network distance measures are operated into location-allocation models to examine their roles to enhance solution quality and applicability of GIS location models. Finally, this paper demonstrates the robustness of the weighted estimation method with the application of location-allocation models.

  • Synthetic Apreture Radar (SAR) is attracting attentions with its possibility of producing high resolution data that can be used for soil moisture estimation. High resolution soil moisture data enables more specific observation of soil moisture than existing soil moisture products from other satellites. It can also be used for studies of wildfire, landslide, and flood. The SAR based soil moisture estimation should be conducted considering vegetation, which affects backscattering signals from the SAR sensor. In this study, a SAR based soil moisture estimation at regions covered with various vegetation types on the middle area of Korea (Cropland, Grassland, Forest) is conducted. The representative backscattering model, Water Cloud Model (WCM) is used for soil moisture estimation over vegetated areas. Radar Vegetation Index (RVI) and in-situ soil moisture data are used as input factors for the model. Total 6 study areas are selected for 3 vegetation types according to land cover classification with 2 sites per each vegetation type. Soil moisture evaluation result shows that the accuracy of each site stands out in the order of grassland, forest, and cropland. Forested area shows correlation coefficient value higher than 0.5 even with the most dense vegetation, while cropland shows correlation coefficient value lower than 0.3. The proper vegetation and soil moisture conditions for SAR based soil moisture estimation are suggested through the results of the study. Future study, which utilizes additional ancillary vegetation data (vegetation height, vegetation type) is thought to be necessary.

  • In this paper, a new speed estimation method of induction motors based on the very quick torque control is proposed to realize speed sensorless control. The proposed method can be realized very simply by detecting primary motor current and voltage command at every sampling time. As the method need not the differential value of primary current in a arithmetic of voltage command, it can be expected to promote the precision of speed estimation in low speed area, especially. Through the numerical simulation, the validity of the proposed method was successfully confirmed.

  • This paper presents a novel scheme to estimate the rotor position of a single-phase hybrid switched reluctance motor (HSRM). The back-EMF generated by the permanent magnet (PM) field whose performance is motor parameter independent is adopted as an index to achieve the sensorless control. The differential value of back-EMF is calculated by hardware and processed by DSP to capture a fixed rotor position four times for every mechanical cycle. In addition, to accomplish the normal starting of HSRM, the determination method of the turn-off time position at the first electrical cycle is also proposed. In this way, a sensorless operation scheme with adjustable turn on/off angle can be achieved without substantial computation. The experimental verification using a prototype drive system is provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed position estimation scheme.

  • Recently, Environmental friendliness and sustainability become the main concern of residential area planning. This paper deals with the estimation indicator system for environmentally friendliness of residential areas. An interview survey was carried out for resident groups by the type of housing. 'Environmentally friendly residential site' is defined as 'A site of sustainable development with low undesirable impact on environment, friendliness to natural environments such as green areas and waters, and amenity, health & hygiene of residents' Totally, nineteen individual indicators, six categories and three principles(Low Impact, High Contact, Amenity & Health) were proposed as estimation indicator system. Residents showed high importance on principle of 'amenity & health'. Individual indicators such as 'garbage segregated collection', 'secure green areas' and 'cleanness of water and air' showed high weighting value by each principles. Satisfaction level of residents for individual indicators, such as 'garbage segregated collection', 'common gardens', and 'cleanness of residential areas', were comparatively high. By the result of factor analysis, the proposed model for indicator system was valid.

  • A new approach to the position sensor elimination of PM synchronous motor drives is presented in this study. Using the position sensing characteristics of PMSM itself, the actual rotor position as well as the machine speed can be estimated by adaptive flux observer and used as the feedback signal for the vector controlled PMSM drive. The adaptive speed estimation is achieved by model reference adaptive technique. The adaptive laws are derived by the Popov's hyperstability theory and the positivity concept. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, computer simulations are carried out for the actual parameters of a PM synchronous motor and the results well demonstrate that the proposed scheme provides a good estimation value of the rotor speed without mechanical sensor. It is also shown that the actual rotor position as well as the machine speed can be achieved under the variation of the magnet flux linkage. Since the flux linkages are estimated by the adaptive flux observer and used for the identification of the rotor speed, robust estimation of the rotor speed can be performed.

  • This paper presents a fast Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) estimation for sound source localization. TDOA is the time difference between the arrival times of a signal at two sensors. We propose a partial cross correlation method to increase the speed of TDOA estimation for sound source localization. We do this by predicting which part of the cross correlation function contains the required TDOA value with the help of the signal energies, and then we compute the cross correlation function in that direction only. Experiments show approximately 50% reduction in the cross correlation computation time thereby increasing the speed of TDOA computation. This makes it very relevant for real world surveillance.
