  • This paper addresses the development of VP curing equipment for the substitution of autoclave which has several limits in application. This equipment adopt vacuuming and pressurizing processes similarly to the autoclave, but has flexible pressurizing and movable system. The experiments were pursued to determine and to compare specific properties of the specimens produced by three kinds of processes; autoclave, hotpress, and VP. The results show that the VP curing equipment can produce the useful composite material with a little inferior quality to the autoclave, but better than the hotpress. Considering the movability of VP curing equipment, it can be expanded its application to the areas of composite patch-repaired structure in large objects.

  • The increase of wet web solid content after wet press and dry compressive strength were observed in lab study by judicious application of wood flour and starch for the old corrugated container (OCC). Pearl starch was better than cationic starch in strength development, but cationic starch was better for drainage. Application of vacuum on the mixed solution of wood flour and starch helped strength development further without loss of other properties. The effect of wood flour addition on wet web solid content improved as the wet pressing pressure increased. The use of wood flour and starch mixture improved wet web solid contents further.

  • A non-contact, in-situ and non-invasive technique for health monitoring of submerged fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) laminates has been developed using ultrasonic guided waves. A pair of mobile transducers at specific angles of incidence to the submerged FRP specimen was used to excite Lamb wave modes. Lamb wave modes were used for comprehensive inspection of various types of manufacturing defects like air gaps and missing epoxy, introduced during manufacturing of FRP using Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion Molding (VARIM). Further service induced damages like notches and surface defects were also studied and evaluated using guided waves. Quantitative evaluation of transmitted ultrasonic signal in defect ridden FRPs $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ healthy signal has been used to relate the extent of damage in FRPs. The developed technique has the potential to develop into a quick, real time health monitoring tool for judging the service worthiness of FRPs.

  • For the senses of beauty and texture, internal components of small passenger cars are manufactured by texturing plastic with drawplate but those of deluxe passenger cars are manufactured by bonding pre-embossed skin to the surface of drawplate. As the pre-embossed skin is bonded at high temperature and pressure, the pattern of skin is distorted. The corner part is hardened and its dimension tolerance is changed by resulting in the increase with its defective rate. This study provides the method to design and manufacture the door trim track by vacuuming the non-patterned skin to upper-side drawplate which forms the pattern of descending skin. It is pressed to the plastic product with hot-press method and the damage of bossed-pattern is prevented. Valuation in this study has been done by analyzing, designing and experimenting method.

  • $Al_2O_3$coatings on mild steel substrate by plasma spray process were produced to evaluate microstructural characterization and mechanical properties. As-coated $Al_2O_3$coating samplessd were subjected to two heat treat-ment conditions : ⅰ) annealing under vacuum circumstance, ⅱ) hot press treated condition. The two heat treat-ed coatings were investigated in terms of microhardness, adhesion strength, wear resistance, porosity forma-tion, and microstructures. In the case of the coatings which were subject to preparation step ⅰ, the porosity in the coating was decreased with the increase of temperature ($700^{\circ}C$-$1100^{\circ}C$), and the wear resistance, microhardnesss and adhesion strength were increased with the increase of temperature. On the other hand, in the case of the coatings which were subject to preparation step ⅱ, wear resistance and adhesion strength were improved with the increase of temperature and pressure. Experimental measurements of coatings which were produced by both preparation conditions were enhanced compare to those of as-coated coatings.

  • Controlled Ca impurity implanted inner crack-like pore in the high purity alumina single crystal, sapphire, had been created by micro-fabrication technique, which includes ion implantation, photo-lithography, Ar ion milling, and hot press technique. The morphological change and the healing of cracklike pore in Ca doped high purity single crystal alumina, sapphire, during high temperature heat treatment in vacuum were observed using optical microscopy. The dot-like surface roughening was developed and hexagon like crystal appeared on inner surface of crack-like pore after heat treatment. Bar type crystals, probably CaO.6Al2O3, were observed on the inner surface after 1 hour heat treatment at 1, 50$0^{\circ}C$, but this bar type crystal disappeared after 1 hour heat treatment at 1, $600^{\circ}C$. This disappearance means that there should be a little increase of Ca solubility limit to alumina at this temperatures.

  • In this paper we present a 3-DOF manipulator of which task is to unload the product from a micro factory. The micro factory developed by KITECH presses sheet metal to produce a micro valve that is used for micro pump. Our research is focused on the development of a small-sized unloading manipulator which works in the narrow workspace between the dies. We have implemented pick-and-place task with vacuum pressure and 3-DOF motion with stepping motors. We present the design procedures and analysis required in each module.

  • In the present work, the effect of hygrothermal aging on the glass fibre and epoxy matrix interface has been investigated by destructive and non-destructive techniques. The glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite laminates were prepared using Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion Molding (VARIM) technique and the specimens were immersed in simulated seawater, followed by quantitative measurement. Besides this, the tensile tests of GFRP specimens revealed a general decrease in the properties with increasing aging time. Also, exposed specimens were characterized by a non-destructive ultrasonic guided Lamb wave propagation technique. The experimental results demonstrate a correlation between the drop in ultrasonic voltage amplitude and fall in tensile strength with increasing time of immersion. Hence, the comparison of the transmitted guided wave signal of healthy vis-a-vis specimens subjected to different extents of hygrothermal aging facilitated performance evaluation of GFRP composites.

  • A ceramic vacuum chamber feedthrough ceramic insulator is made of Al2O3; the manufacturing process involves filling alumina powder into a urethane mold and pressing it with a rubber press to produce a molded body. Thereafter, manufacturing is completed through primary shape processing, sintering, and secondary shape processing in the green body, which is a pressurized molding body, This work is intended to prevent defects in the first shape processing by improving the ceramic insulator in the green body, and to improve the productivity of the ceramic insulator by determining the optimal processing conditions.

  • In this research, experimental tensile test and manufacturing of carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam (CNTRC) is presented. Also, bending, buckling, and vibration analysis of CNTRC based on various beam theories such as Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beams are considered. At first, the experimental tensile tests are carried out for CNTRC and composite beams in order to obtain mechanical properties and then using Hamilton's principle the governing equations of motion are derived for Euler Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy theories. The results have a good agreement with the obtained results by similar researches and it is shown that adding just two percent of carbon nanotubes increases dimensionless fundamental frequency and critical buckling load as well as decreases transverse deflection of composite beams. Also, the influences of different manufacturing processes such as hand layup and industrial methods using vacuum pump on composite properties are investigated. In these composite beams, glass fibers used in an epoxy matrix and for producing CNTRC, CNTs are applied as reinforcement particles. Applying two percent of CNTs leads to increase the mechanical properties and increases natural frequencies and critical buckling load and decreases deflection. The obtained natural frequencies and critical buckling load by theoretical method are higher than other methods, because there are some inevitable errors in industrial and hand layup method. Also, the minimum deflection occurs for theoretical methods, in bending analysis. In this study, Young's and shear modulli as well as density are obtained by experimental test and have not been used from the results of other researches. Then the theoretical analysis such as bending, buckling and vibration are considered by using the obtained mechanical properties of this research.
