Efficient Signaling of Extended GPM Modes in ECM (ECM 의 효율적인 GPM 확장 모드 시그널링 기법)

  • JVET 은 최신 비디오 부호화 표준인 VVC(Versatile Video Coding) 표준화를 완료한 후, VVC 보다 더 높은 압축 성능을 가지는 새로운 표준기술 탐색을 진행하고 있으며, 이를 위하여 참조 소프트웨어 ECM(Enhanced Compression Model)을 개발하고 있다. 현재 ECM4.0 에는 다양한 후보 구성 및 예측 성능 개선 기법을 추가하여 기존 VVC 의 GPM(Geometric Partitioning Mode)을 확장한 GPM-MMVD(GPM with merge MV differences), GPM-TM(GPM with template matching) 등을 채택하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 ECM 에 채택된 확장된 GPM 기술들의 각 기술 별 선택 빈도를 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 보다 효율적인 GPM 확장 모드 시그널링 방식을 제안한다. 또한 후보 탐색 알고리즘을 간소화한 복잡도 감소 기법을 제시한다. 실험결과 제안하는 시그널링 기법은 ECM4.0 대비 Y와 Cb, Cr 에서 각각 0.02%, 0.16%, 0.09% BD-rate 부호화 성능 향상을 보였고 GPM 인덱스 탐색 간소화 기법은 ECM4.0 대비 Y 와 Cr 에서 각각 0.02%, 0.18% BD-rate 부호화 성능 향상을 보였다.

  • Versatile Video Coding (VVC)는 차세대 동영상 압축 표준화 과정에서 다수의 부호화 기술을 새롭게 채택하였는데, 이중 Multiple Reference Lines (MRL)을 포함한 일부 기술은 휘도 채널에만 적용될 수 있으며 색차 성분에 대해서는 적용이 고려되지 않는다. 본 논문은 VVC 에서 휘도 채널에만 적용되는 MRL 기술을 색차 채널로 확장하기 위하여, DM(Derived Mode)을 사용하는 색차 블록의 대응 휘도 블록이 MRL 을 사용하는 경우에 해당 참조 라인을 선택적으로 공유하여 색차 블록이 화면 내 예측에 복수개의 참조 라인을 고려하여 선택할 수 있도록 하는 방법을 제안한다. 실험 결과, VVC Test Model (VTM) 15.0 대비 Cb, Cr 성분 각각 -0.09%, -0.05%의 성능 향상을 보인다.

  • A super widely amplitude modulating AM modulator system, utilizing the impedance trasformation characteristics of transmission line is presented. The analyses and oscillograms obtained from the AM modulator systems using VHF tube, FET or VVC diode as an active element are added to verify the principle of the system.

학습된 선형 변환 기저를 이용한 VVC 잔자신호 변환

  • 본 논문에서는 비디오 코딩 잔차신호를 보다 효율적으로 변환하기 위하여 오프라인으로 잔차신호를 학습하여 RD(Rate Distortion) Cost를 기반으로 분류된 몇 가지 변환 기저들을 생성하고, 비디오 복호화 과정 중 잔차신호를 역변환을 수행할 때 주변의 복호화가 완료된 신호들을 이용하여 최적의 변환 기저를 선택하여 해당 변환 기저로 역변환을 수행하여 효율적으로 잔차신호를 압축하는 방법에 대해 제안한다. 변환 기저 생성에는 분류된 잔차신호들에 대하여 2 차원 혹은 1 차원 KLT를 계산함으로써 얻어내어진다. 제안하는 방법은 VTM(VVC Test Model) version 10에서 실험하였으며 약 0.5% 정도의 성능향상을 보인다.

Performance Improvement of Chroma Intra Prediction (색차채널의 화면 내 예측 성능향상 기술)

  • VVC (Versatile Video Coding) is a new video compression technique that is being standardized, and it supports HD / UHD / 8K video, and High Dynamic Range (HDR) video with a goal of approximately 2 times higher coding efficiency than the conventional HEVC. It also aims to support a variety of functionalities such as screen content coding, adaptive resolution changes, and independent sub-pictures. In this paper, we investigate the signaling process of intra prediction mode first, and develop an effective coding method of the chroma intra prediction mode. In case of the DM mode, the proposed method simplifies the prediction mode of the chorma intra prediction mode when referring to the angular mode of the luminance block. It can improve coding efficiency of the chroma intra prediction mode, and the proposed process can also consider the size of the block in order to further improve its coding efficiency.

  • In the stereoscopic or multiview display, the depth video illustrates visual distances between objects and camera. To promote the computational efficiency of depth video encoder, we exploit the intra prediction of depth videos under Versatile Video Coding (VVC) and observe a diverse distribution of intra prediction modes with different coding unit sizes. We propose a hybrid scheme to further boost fast depth video coding. In the first stage, we adaptively predict the HADamard (HAD) costs of intra prediction modes and initialize a candidate list according to the HAD costs. Then, the candidate list is further improved by considering the probability distribution of candidate modes with different CU sizes. Finally, early termination of CU splitting is performed at each CU depth level based on the Bayesian theorem. Our proposed method is incorporated into VVC intra prediction for fast coding of depth videos. Experiments with 7 standard sequences and 4 Quantization parameters (Qps) validate the efficiency of our method.

  • A variable vacuum capacitor (VVC), which is a variable element, is used to match impedance in plasma that changes with various impedance values, and its use is expanding with the rapid growth of the semiconductor business. Since VVCs have to secure insulation performance and vary capacitance within a compact size, electrode design and manufacturing are very important; thus, various technologies such as part design and manufacturing technology and vacuum brazing technology are required. In this study, based on the model of an advanced foreign company that is widely used for impedance matching in the manufacture of semiconductors and displays, a VVC that can realize the same performance was developed. The electrode part was designed, the consistency was confirmed through analysis, and the precision of capacitance was improved by designing a cup-type electrode to secure the concentricity of the electrode. As a result of the evaluation, all requirements was satisfied. We believe that self-development will be possible if satisfactory responses are received through evaluation by VVC consumers in the future.

Luma Mapping Function Generation Method Using Attention Map of Convolutional Neural Network in Versatile Video Coding Encoder (VVC 인코더에서 합성 곱 신경망의 어텐션 맵을 이용한 휘도 매핑 함수 생성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a method for generating luma signal mapping function to improve the coding efficiency of luma signal mapping methods in LMCS. In this paper, we propose a method to reflect the cognitive and perceptual features by multiplying the attention map of convolutional neural networks on local spatial variance used to reflect local features in the existing LMCS. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, BD-rate is compared with VTM-12.0 using classes A1, A2, B, C and D of MPEG standard test sequences under AI (All Intra) conditions. As a result of experiments, the proposed method in this paper shows improvement in performance the average of -0.07% for luma components in terms of BD-rate performance compared to VTM-12.0 and encoding/decoding time is almost the same.

Fast Inverse Transform Considering Multiplications (곱셈 연산을 고려한 고속 역변환 방법)

  • In hybrid block-based video coding, transform coding converts spatial domain residual signals into frequency domain data and concentrates energy in a low frequency band to achieve a high compression efficiency in entropy coding. The state-of-the-art video coding standard, VVC(Versatile Video Coding), uses DCT-2(Discrete Cosine Transform type 2), DST-7(Discrete Sine Transform type 7), and DCT-8(Discrete Cosine Transform type 8) for primary transform. In this paper, considering that DCT-2, DST-7, and DCT-8 are all linear transformations, we propose an inverse transform that reduces the number of multiplications in the inverse transform by using the linearity of the linear transform. The proposed inverse transform method reduced encoding time and decoding time by an average 26%, 15% in AI and 4%, 10% in RA without the increase of bitrate compared to VTM-8.2.

Probiotics in the Prevention and Treatment of Postmenopausal Vaginal Infections: Review Article

  • Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and complicated vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) are frequently occurring vaginal infections in postmenopausal women, caused by an imbalance in vaginal microflora. Postmenopausal women suffer from decreased ovarian hormones estrogen and progesterone. A normal, healthy vaginal microflora mainly comprises Lactobacillus species (spp.), which act beneficially as a bacterial barrier in the vagina, interfering with uropathogens. During premenopausal period, estrogen promotes vaginal colonization by lactobacilli that metabolizing glycogen and producing lactic acid, and maintains intravaginal health by lowering the intravaginal pH level. A lower vaginal pH inhibits uropathogen growth, preventing vaginal infections. Decreased estrogen secretion in postmenopausal women depletes lactobacilli and increases intravaginal pH, resulting in increased vaginal colonization by harmful microorganisms (e.g., Enterobacter, Escherichia coli, Candida, and Gardnerella). Probiotics positively effects on vaginal microflora composition by promoting the proliferation of beneficial microorganisms, alters the intravaginal microbiota composition, prevents vaginal infections in postmenopausal. Probiotics also reduce the symptoms of vaginal infections (e.g., vaginal discharge, odor, etc.), and are thus helpful for the treatment and prevention of BV and VVC. In this review article, we provide information on the intravaginal mechanism of postmenopausal vaginal infections, and describes the effectiveness of probiotics in the treatment and prevention of BV and VVC.
