한반도 지각 속도구조 (Crustal structure of the Korean peninsula)

  • In order to investigate the velocity structure of the southern part of the Korean peninsula, exploded seismic signals were recorded for 120 s along a 294-km WNW-ESE line and 150 s along a 335-km NNW-SSE line in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Velocity tomograms were derived from inverting P-wave and S-wave first arrival times. The raypaths indicate several midcrust interfaces. The shallowest one is at the approximate depth of $2{\sim}3\;km$ with refraction velocities of approximately Vp=6.0 and Vs=3.5 km/s, respectively. The second one of $15{\sim}17\;km$ depth has refraction velocities of approximately Vp=7.1 and Vs=3.7 km/s, respectively. The deepest significant interface varies in depth from 30.8 km to 36.1 km. The critically refracting Vp of $7.8{\sim}8.1\;km/s$ and Vs of $4.2{\sim}4.6\;km/s$ along this interface which may correspond to the Moho discontinuity. The velocity tomograms show (1) existence of a low-velocity zone centered at $6{\sim}7\;km$ depth under the Okchon fold belt and the Yeongnam massif, (2) extension of the Yeongdon fault down to greater than 10 km, and (3) existence of high-velocity materials under the Gyeongsan basin less than 4.2 km thick.

의료생활협동조합 한의원의 일차의료서비스 수준 평가 (Patient Assessment of Primary Care for Health Cooperative Korean Medicine Clinics in South Korea)

  • Objectives : Health cooperative movement is of increasing concern among medical consumers and professionals in Korea. Most health cooperative clinics provide Western Medicine and Korean Medicine(KM) to patients. This study aimed to evaluate the primary care level of health cooperative KM clinics and compare it with local KM clinics in Korea. Methods : Face to face survey was performed at the 3 health cooperative KM clinics and 5 local KM clinics with the Korean Primary Care Assessment Tool (KPCAT). The KPCAT consists of 5 domains (21 items): first contact (5), coordination function (3), comprehensiveness (4), family/community orientation (4), and personalized care (5). Subjects were patients or guardians who had visited KM clinics five times or more during the last 3 months. We compared primary care scores of each domain between health cooperative KM clinics and local KM clinics. Results : Data were collected from 200 respondents (100 patients from health cooperative KM clinics and 100 local KM clinics). Total average scores of the KPCAT for health cooperative clinics and local KM clinics were $81.1{\pm}12.0$ and $75.4{\pm}9.5$, respectively. Among primary care domains, personalized care was the highest ($89.2{\pm}12.0$, $89.6{\pm}8.4$, respectively), and comprehensiveness function was the lowest ($68.5{\pm}22.5$, $54.5{\pm}22.0$, respectively). Significant differences between two groups were noted in comprehensiveness function (68.5 vs. 54.5, P=0.000), family-community orientation (79.5 vs. 73.0, P=0.004), first contact(89.2 vs 84.0, p=0.001) and coordination function(74.0 vs 68.7, p=0.025). Conclusions : Based on the patients assessment, health cooperative KM clinics provide more primary care-oriented services than local KM clinics. This means that health cooperative clinic can be one of alternatives to strengthen the primary health care in Korea. Future researches are recommended to measure patients satisfaction and treatment effectiveness in the health cooperative clinics.

  • The general photometric, spectroscopic, and kinematic properties of the late type halo stars are investigated from a sample of known true halo stars. Halo stars are distributed in a lower left region of infrared (J-H) vs (H-K) color-color diagram, which is recomfirmed to be useful for selection of halo stars. They move with average velocity components of 9 km/sec, -14 km/sec, and 5 km/sec in U, V, and W directions respectively. They are distributed seperately from disk stars in a diagram of metallicity index, CaH1/TiO5 vs (R-I).

분할 파형 역산을 사용한 서태평양 지역 S파 속도 및 방사 이방성 구조 연구 (S-velocity and Radial Anisotropy Structures in the Western Pacific Using Partitioned Waveform Inversion)

  • 서태평양에 위치한 총 173개의 지진 관측소에서 획득한 2,026개의 지진 자료에 분할 파형 역산을 적용하여 서태평양 지역 맨틀 전이대 깊이까지 S파 등방성 속도 및 방사 이방성에 대한 연구를 수행했다. 그 결과 필리핀해판의 경우 페러스-벨라 분지(Parece-Vela basin)에서 고속도 이상이 30 km 깊이까지 나타나는 것에 비해 서필리핀 분지(West Philippine basin)에서 고속도 이상이 50 km 깊이까지 유지되었다. 페러스-벨라 분지 하부 약 80 km 깊이부터 나타나는 저속도 이상이 깊이가 깊어짐에 따라 서필리핀 분지로 확장되는 경향을 보였는데 이는 페러스-벨라 분지와 서필리핀 분지 사이의 연령차이에 의한 것으로 보인다. 또한 캐롤라인 해저 산열(Caroline seamount chain) 및 캐롤라인 판의 하부에서 강한 저속도 이상이 약 200 km 깊이까지 보인다. 방사 이방성 모델의 경우 서태평양에서 전반적으로 양의 이방성에 우세하게 나타났으며 페러스-벨라 분지에서 약 50 km 깊이까지, 마리아나 해구를 따라 섭입하는 태평양판의 약 220 km 깊이부터 음의 이방성이 관측되었다. 캐롤라인 해저산열 하부 약 200 km 깊이까지 강한 양의 이방성이 나타났는데 이는 해저산열을 형성한 플룸과 이동하는 태평양판 사이에 발생한 끌림(drag)에 의한 것으로 보인다. 온통-자바 해대(Ontong-Java plateau) 지역 하부에서는 40 ~ 180 km 깊이에서 고속도 이상이 발견되었으며, 이는 탈수된 플룸 물질의 부착으로 인한 비정상적으로 두꺼운 암석권의 존재를 나타낸다.

A Variable Selection Procedure for K-Means Clustering

  • One of the most important problems in cluster analysis is the selection of variables that truly define cluster structure, while eliminating noisy variables that mask such structure. Brusco and Cradit (2001) present VS-KM(variable-selection heuristic for K-means clustering) procedure for selecting true variables for K-means clustering based on adjusted Rand index. This procedure starts with the fixed number of clusters in K-means and adds variables sequentially based on an adjusted Rand index. This paper presents an updated procedure combining the VS-KM with the automated K-means procedure provided by Kim (2009). This automated variable selection procedure for K-means clustering calculates the cluster number and initial cluster center whenever new variable is added and adds a variable based on adjusted Rand index. Simulation result indicates that the proposed procedure is very effective at selecting true variables and at eliminating noisy variables. Implemented program using R can be obtained on the website "http://faculty.knou.ac.kr/sskim/nvarkm.r and vnvarkm.r".

서울지역 일반 한의원과 네트워크 한의원의 환자만족도 및 추천의사에 미치는 영향요인 비교 (Comparison of Patients' Satisfactions with General Korean Medicine Clinics and Networked Korean Medicine Clinics in Seoul, Korea)

  • Objective : This study aimed to compare the patients' satisfactions with local Korean Medicine(KM) clinics and networked KM clinics, and to find out which factors had an effect on it. Method : Six local KM clinics and six networked KM clinics were selected, and patients' questionnaires on the satisfaction with KM clinic use were administered using exit poll method. The questionnaires were developed to measure satisfactions with facility, doctor and staffs, and services. 240 patients completed the questionnaires, and the data were statistically analyzed. Results : There was more diversity in patients' diseases among networked KM clinics users, however, treatments provided were not differentiated clinically between two types of KM clinics. Patients' satisfaction scores for local KM clinics were significantly higher than those for networked KM clinics in the aspects of doctors/staffs (9.35 vs 8.92, p<.01) and services (8.76 vs 8.42, p<.05). 90.0% of local KM clinic users expressed their willingness to recommend the clinics they used to others, while 75.0% of networked KM clinics users did. For both the local and networked clinics, 'KM doctors' kindness', and 'process and waiting time' were statistical factors affecting patients' satisfaction. Conclusion : The patients' satisfactions with general KM clinics were higher than those with networked KM clinics. Networked KM clinics need to develop services to meet the diverse medical demands which were created by them selves.

서울 평야 지역에 대한 부지 고유의 지진 증폭 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Site-Specific Seismic Amplification Characteristics in Plains of Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • 서울의 두 평야 지역 4km${\times}$4km에 대한 부지 고유의 지진 응답 특성 평가를 위하여 대상 지역내 총 350개의 시추 자료를 활용하였다. 국내 내륙 지역의 공내 탄성파 시험의 자료와 시주 자료를 이용하여 $N-V_s$ 상관관계를 도출하고, 이를 토대로 선정된 350 시추 위치에서의 깊이별 전단파 속도(Vs) 분포를 결정하여 등가선형 기법의 부지 응답 해석을 수행하였다. 현행 지반 분류 기준인 심도 30m까지의 평균 Vs (Vs30)는 대상 지역 내에서 250${\~}$550 m/s의 분포를 보였고, 그에 따라 대부분의 부지가 지반 분류 C와 D로 분류되었다. 서울 평야 지역의 부지 고유 주기는 국내 지반 증폭 계수의 근간인 미국 서부 지역에 비해 매우 작은 0.1${\~}$0.4초의 분포를 보였다. 비록 몇몇 부지에서 토사 층 내에 연약한 지층이 존재함에 따라 기저 고립 효과가 발생하여 현행 단주기 증폭 계수가 지반 운동을 과대평가하기도 하지만, 미국 서부 지역과의 지반 조건 차이로 인해 전반적으로 서울 평야 지역에서는 현행 국내 내진 설계 기준의 단주기(0.1${\~}$0.5초) 증폭 계수(Fa)는 지반 운동을 과소평가하고 중장주기(0.4${\~}$2.0초) 증폭 계수(Fv)는 지반 운동을 과대평가하고 있다.

Tectonic Features of a Triple-Plate Junction in Hokkaido Using Local Seismic Tomography

  • 일본 훗카이도와 그 주변 지역의 238개의 관측소에서 관측한 깊이 0~300km내에서 일어난 4050개의 지진 중 P파 64,024개와 5파 64,618개를 Kim과 Bae(2004)에 의해 개발된 3 성분 토모그래피에 이용하였다. Vp/Vs의 속도 이상대가 훗카이도와 그 주변 지역에서 명확하게 나타났다. Double Seismic Zone(DSZ)의 Seismic Planes는, 훗카이도 주변에서 지진 위험도가 높게 나타나는, 40~80Km의 깊이에서 훗카이도 아래로 태평양판이 섭입하는 것이 발견되었다. 모호 불연속면아래에서 높은 Vp/Vs 이상대의 발견은 Moriya(1994)에 의해 제안된, 쿠릴 열도(Okhotsk Plate 혹은 North American Plate)가 NE 일본 열도(Amurian Plate 혹은 Eurasian Plate)와 충돌하고, 동시에 태평양판이 훗카이도의 Central Tectonic Axis($142^{\circ}{\sim}143^{\circ}E$)와 Hikada Mountain Range(HMR) Corner를 따라 지체구조력의 균형을 이루는 두 개의 판 아래로 섭입하고 있는, 표면 삼중 충돌 가설의 증거이다. 낮은 Vp와 Vs는 장력을 나타내는 지진 메커니즘의 표현인 Central Tectonic Axis을 따라 동쪽과 서쪽에서 발견되었다. 이들 현상은 이 지역에서의 낮은 부게 중력 이상값과 일치한다. 이것은 왜 큰 지진의 대부분이 훗카이도의 3개의 지체구조력의 3중 접합점에 의해 지체구조력의 균형이 깨어지는, 훗카이도 바깥쪽에서 일어나는지 알 수 있다.

Variable Selection and Outlier Detection for Automated K-means Clustering

  • An important problem in cluster analysis is the selection of variables that define cluster structure that also eliminate noisy variables that mask cluster structure; in addition, outlier detection is a fundamental task for cluster analysis. Here we provide an automated K-means clustering process combined with variable selection and outlier identification. The Automated K-means clustering procedure consists of three processes: (i) automatically calculating the cluster number and initial cluster center whenever a new variable is added, (ii) identifying outliers for each cluster depending on used variables, (iii) selecting variables defining cluster structure in a forward manner. To select variables, we applied VS-KM (variable-selection heuristic for K-means clustering) procedure (Brusco and Cradit, 2001). To identify outliers, we used a hybrid approach combining a clustering based approach and distance based approach. Simulation results indicate that the proposed automated K-means clustering procedure is effective to select variables and identify outliers. Analysis on Delta-Vs to Maintain Extremely Low Altitude on the Moon and Its Application to CubeSat Mission

  • This paper analyzes delta-Vs to maintain an extremely low altitude on the Moon and investigates the possibilities of performing a CubeSat mission. To formulate the station-keeping (SK) problem at an extremely low altitude, current work has utilized real-flight performance proven software, the Systems Tool Kit Astrogator by Analytical Graphics Inc. With a high-fidelity force model, properties of SK maneuver delta-Vs to maintain an extremely low altitude are successfully derived with respect to different sets of reference orbits; of different altitudes as well as deadband limits. The effect of the degree and order selection of lunar gravitational harmonics on the overall SK maneuver strategy is also analyzed. Based on the derived SK maneuver delta-V costs, the possibilities of performing a CubeSat mission are analyzed with the expected mission lifetime by applying the current flight-proven miniaturized propulsion system performances. Moreover, the lunar surface coverage as well as the orbital characteristics of a candidate reference orbit are discussed. As a result, it is concluded that an approximately 15-kg class CubeSat could maintain an orbit (30-50 km reference altitude having ${\pm}10km$ deadband limits) around the Moon for 1-6 months and provide almost full coverage of the lunar surface.
