  • The purpose of this study is to develop a using various convex lenses 'VR glasses' instructional materials for area of communication technology of the 2015 Revision Curriculum in middle school. This study was progressed depend on ADDIE model. In the analysis step, a necessity of developing the instructional materials was confirmed through social needs and leaner's needs and literature researches were reviewed about the 2015 Revision Curriculum and virtual reality and confirmed the area of communication technology related to VR glasses. The communication process of information was selected as a communication technology area related to VR glass. In the design step, Based on the analysis stage, instructional objectives were set and instructional method and medium were selected. In the development step was developed instructional materials, what are teaching-learning guidance, power-point presentations, the paper for group learning activities, Individual portfolio, and using various convex lenses VR glasses example. As a result of 'VR glasses' using various convex lenses, the viewing angle was enlarged when the diameter of the convex lens was large, but it was difficult to quantify it. In the implementation step, the instructional materials developed for middle school students was applied. In the evaluation step, instructional materials were modified and improved through a students evaluation, experts evaluation.

  • In this paper, we proposed a software framework structure to apply ORB-SLAM, the most representative of SLAM algorithms, so that map creation and location estimation technology can be applied through tethered AR glasses. Since tethered AR glasses perform only the role of an input/output device, the processing of camera and sensor data and the generation of images to be displayed through the optical display module must be performed through the host. At this time, an Android-based mobile device is adopted as the host. Therefore, the major libraries required for the implementation of AR contents for AR glasses were hierarchically organized, and spatial recognition and location estimation functions using SLAM were verified.

  • Since the world's first 3D commercial film with red-blue glasses was introduced in 1922, remarkable progress has been made in the field of 3D video. 3D video content gained enormous popularity with the movie "Avatar," which greatly increased the sale of 3D TVs. This momentum has weakened owing to lack of 3D content. However, the recent trend of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) made 360 VR video and 3D games using a head mounted display wide spread. All these experiences mentioned above require wearing glasses to enjoy 3D content. Super multi-view content technology, on the other hand, enables viewers to enjoy 3D content without glasses on a super multi-view display. In this article, we introduce the technologies used to make super multi-view content, interact with it, and author content, which are developed by ETRI.

  • Recently, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have received increasing attention, with the development of VR/AR devices such as head-mounted displays, haptic devices, and AR glasses. Medicine is considered to be one of the most effective applications of VR/AR. In this article, we describe a systematic literature review conducted to investigate the state-of-the-art VR/AR technology relevant to plastic surgery. The 35 studies that were ultimately selected were categorized into 3 representative topics: VR/AR-based preoperative planning, navigation, and training. In addition, future trends of VR/AR technology associated with plastic surgery and related fields are discussed.

  • In this paper, we present the R&D status of ETRI's Trusted Reality (TR) project and its core technologies. ETRI's TR project focuses on the next-generation paradigm of smart phones, ETRI-TR Smart Glasses, which aims to provide the same features as those of smart phones without the involvement of any handheld device. Furthermore, they are characterized by additional features enabled by trustworthy VR/AR/MR/XR, such as privacy masking/unmasking, distributed structure of thin-client computing/networking among TR-Glasses, TR-LocalEdge, and TR-RemoteEdge, with novel see-through eyes-direct communication between IoT real/virtual objects and human eyes. Based on these core technologies of the ETRI's TR project, the human-held ETRI-TR Smart Glasses is expected to aid in the realization of XR vision with particularly more XR's safe_privacy on social life in the near future.

  • Background: This study evaluated the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) distraction and counter-stimulation (CS) on dental anxiety and pain perception to local anesthesia in children. Methods: A prospective, randomized, single-blinded interventional clinical trial with a parallel design was used. Seventy children 7-11 years old who required local anesthesia (LA) for pulp therapy or tooth extraction were recruited and allocated to two groups with equal distribution based on the intervention. Group CS (n = 35) received CS and Group VR (n = 35) received VR distraction with ANTVR glasses. Anxiety levels (using pulse rate) were evaluated before, during, and after administration of local anesthesia, while pain perception was assessed immediately after the injection. Wong-Baker faces pain-rating scale (WBFPS), visual analog scale (VAS), and Venham's clinical anxiety rating scale (VCARS) were used for pain evaluation. Student's t-test was used to test the mean difference between groups, and repeated measures ANOVA was used to test the mean difference of pulse rates. Results: Significant differences in mean pulse rates were observed in both groups, while children in the VR group had a higher reduction (P < 0.05), and the mean VCARS scores were significant in the VR group (P < 0.05). Mean WBFPS scores showed less pain perception to LA needle prick in the CS group while the same change was observed in the VR group with VAS scores. Conclusions: VR distraction is better than CS for reducing anxiety to injection in children undergoing extraction and pulpectomy.

  • The presence-feeling enhancement method of a Virtual Reality (VR) simulator is proposed in this paper. The method is to increase realistic human feeling by mutual synergy effect between stereoscopic image and three-dimensional (3D) sound. In order to test the influence of mutual synergy effect, subject assessment with five university students is carried out using VR ship simulator having PC monitor and LCD shutter glasses. It I found that the averaged scale value of image naturalness is increased by 0.5 from $I_{nat}$=3.1 to 3.6 when blending stereoscopic images with 3D sound, and the averaged score value of sound localization is increased by 10% from $A_{SL}$ = 70~75% to $A_{SL}$ = 80~85% when blending 3D sound with stereoscopic image. In conclusion, the results show that the proposed method is able to increase the presence feeling in the VR simulator.

  • As COVID-19 made it difficult to travel abroad and attract domestic tourists to foreigners, the phenomenon of MZ generations flocking to Jeju through consumption patterns occurred. In this study, if Jeju Island uses Jeju's rural tourism and smart glasses to study how to attract and cope with domestic tourists after the pandemic and build a mobile application or smart glass to tour based on village maps, the docent guide service through smart glasses will help tourists. Furthermore, it would be very beneficial to introduce a location-based service to provide the necessary information at the location according to the movement path of tourists. In fact, we conclude that it can be implemented through the development of the Hansung Baekje Museum, and hope that the actual media can be applied to free tourist courses such as Jeju Olle Trail, as it provides various contents in selective development such as AR and VR.

  • Although various kinds of VR services are being carried out in the tourism field, The virtual reality experiences are still costly, since they could be realized in a limited space with some kinds of expensive equipment such as HMD. In this study, we propose a mobile virtual reality tourism experience using an easy and simple Google card board and user's smartphone because most tourist sites are outdoors and most of users like enjoying sightseeing and experience at the same time. For this purpose, we constructed a system that provides tourist information in real time employing both the IoT and VR techniques. Especially we develpoed a tourism contents for the UNESCO World Heritage Communities of Baekje Historical Site and Songsanri Tumulus. In addition, we virtually restored the royal palace in Gongju and confirmed the historical experience by VR flatform could be popular with people.
