VQ 인덱스의 상관도를 이용한 향상된 웨이브렛 영상 압축 (Improved Wavelet Image Compression Using Correlation of VQ index)

  • In this paper, a wavelet image coding scheme exploiting the correlation of neighboring VQ indices in eh wavelet domain is proposed. the codewords in each sub-codebook are re-ordered in terms of their energies in order to increase the correlation of he indices. Then, the generated indices after VQ can be further encoded by non-adaptive DPCM/Huffman method. LBG algorithm and a fast-PNN algorithm using k-d trees are used for generating a multiresolution codebook. Experimental results show that or scheme outperforms the ordinary wavelet VQ and JPEG at low bit rates.

  • We present a very simple algorithm for reducing the encoding (codebook search) complexity of vector quantization (VQ), exploiting some features of a vector currently being encoded. A proposed VQ of 16 (=$4{\times}4$) vector dimension and 256 codewords shows a slight performance degradation of about 0.1-0.9 dB, however, with only 16 or 32 among 256 codeword searches, i.e., with just 1/16 or 1/8 search complexity compared to a full-search VQ. And the proposed VQ scheme is also compared to and shown to be a bit superior to tree-search VQ with regard to their SNR performance and memory requirement.

  • We examine the compression performance of two irreversible (lossy) compression techniques, ADCT-VQ (Adaptive Discrete Cosine Trandform - Vector Quantization) and JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts group) which are basis of medical image information systems. Under the same compression ratio, MSE(Mean Square Error) is 0.578 lower in JPEG than in ADCT-VQ while SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) is 1.236 dB higher in JPEG than in ADCT-VQ.

  • 웨이브렛 영역에서 벡터 양자화(vector quantization)를 수행하여 생성된 VQ 인덱스들을 엔트로피 부호화(entropy coding)하면 영상의 코딩 효율을 높일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 벡터 양자화 이전에 VQ 인덱스들의 중복성을 높이기 위해 다중해상도 코드북의 코드 워드들을 에너지 크기 순으로 재정렬하는 기법을 제안한다. 코드 워드들의 평균과 편차를 이용한 재정렬 방법과 제안된 기법을 벡터 양자화 후 생성되는 VQ 인덱스에 DPCM/Huffman 기법을 적용하여 각각에 대한 코딩 효율을 비교한다.

  • In this paper, we propose the new method that separate the existing common VQ code book into two parts, one is the common VQ code book which is the half of existing common VQ code book, another is the personal speaker VQ code book which accommodate the personal speaker characteristic, variation to improve the performance of the text-dependent speaker verification system using discrete HMM. We apply the propose method m this paper to the text-dependent speaker verification system using discrete HMM and have the improvement performance of about 0.24% compared to existing method

  • This paper proposes a new technique of optimal codebook design in multistage gain-shape vector quantization (MS-GS VQ) for wireless image communication. An original image is divided into a smany blocks as possible in order to get strong robustness to channel transmission errors: the original image is decomposed into a number of subband images, each of which contains a sperate spatial frequency information and is obtained by the biorthogonal wavlet transform; each subband is separated into several consecutive VQ stages, where each stage has a residual information of the previous stage; one vector in each stage is divided into two components-gain and shape. But, this decomposition genrates too many blocks and it thus makes the determination of optimal codebooks difficult. We overcome this difficulty by evolving each block's codebook independently with different genetic algorithm that uses each stage's individual training vectors. Th eimpact of th eproposed VQ technique on the channel transmission errors is compared with that of other VQ techniques. Simulation results show that the proposed VQ technique (MS-GS VQ) with the optimal codebook designe dy genetic algorithms is very robust to channel transmission errors even under the bursty and high BER conditions.

최소거리 분류벡터 양자기와 시스토릭 어레이 구조 (Minimum-Distance Classified Vector Quantizer and Its Systolic Array Architecture)

  • In this paper in order to reduce the encoding complexity required in the full search vector quantization(VQ), a new classified vector quantization(CVQ) technique is described employing the minimum-distance classifier. The determination of the optimal subcodebook sizes for each class is an important task in CVQ designs and is not an easy work. Therefore letting the subcodebook sizes be equal. A CVQ technique. Which satisties the optimal CVQ condition approximately, is proposed. The proposed CVQ is a kind of the partial search VQ because it requires a search process within each subcodebook only, and the minimum encoding complexity since the subcodebook sizes are the same in each class. But simulation results reveal while the encoding complexity is only O(N$^{1/2}$) comparing with O(N) of the full-search VQ. A simple systolic array, which has the through-put of k, is also proposed for the implementation of the VQ. Since the operation of the classifier is identical with that of the VQ, the proposed array is applied to both the classifier and the VQ in the proposed CVQ, which shows the usefulness of the proposed CVQ.

강인한 VQ-PCA에 기반한 효율적인 화자 식별 (Efficient Speaker Identification based on Robust VQ-PCA)

  • 본 논문에서는, 효율적인 화자 식별을 위하여 강인한 벡터 양자화 주성분 분석을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 화자 식별에서 특징벡터의 학습을 위한 고차원(high dimension) 문제와 이상치(Outlier)에 대한 문제를 해결 하기위하여 제안 되었다. 먼저, 제안된 방법은 M-추정을 이용하여 강인한 벡터 양자화(Vector Quantization : VQ) 에 의한 몇 개의 분리된 영역으로 데이터 공간을 나눈다. 분리된 자 영역에서 공분산 행렬로부터 강인한 주성분 분석(Principal Component Analysis)이 얻어지게 된다. 마지막으로 각 영역에서 강인한 PCA에 의하여 줄어든 차원을 갖는 변환된 특징 벡터로부터 화자의 가우시안 혼합 모델(Gaussian Mixture Model : GMM)을 구한다. 제안된 방법은 같은 성능하에서 대각 공분산 행렬을 갖는 전형적인 GMM방법과 비교할 때 더빠른 결과를 얻었으며, 데이터의 저장공간을 줄일 수 있었을 뿐 아니라, 이상치가 존재할 경우에 더욱 강인하였다.

Sharing a Large Secret Image Using Meaningful Shadows Based on VQ and Inpainting

  • This paper proposes a novel progressive secret image-hiding scheme based on the inpainting technique, the vector quantization technique (VQ) and the exploiting modification direction (EMD) technique. The proposed scheme first divides the secret image into non-overlapping blocks and categorizes the blocks into two groups: complex and smooth. The blocks in the complex group are compressed by VQ with PCA sorted codebook to obtain the VQ index table. Instead of embedding the original secret image, the proposed method progressively embeds the VQ index table into the cover images by using the EMD technique. After the receiver recovers the complex parts of the secret image by decoding the VQ index table from the shadow images, the smooth parts can be reconstructed by using the inpainting technique based on the content of the complex parts. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme not only has the advantage of progressive data hiding, which involves more shadow images joining to recover the secret image so as to produce a higher quality steganography image, but also can achieve high hiding capacity with acceptable recovered image quality.

인덱스 테이블을 이용한 고속 VQ 코드북 탐색 알고리즘 (Fast VQ Codebook Search Algorithms Using Index Table)

  • 본 논문에서는 Wavelet/VQ 코딩 기법에 효율적인 두 가지의 고속 VQ 코드북 탐색 알고리즘을 제안한다. 웨이브렛 계수 블록 내에서 코드북의 코드워드들의 원소, 즉 웨이브렛 계수가 큰 값을 가질 확률이 적다. 이러한 특성을 코드북 탐색에 이용하기 위하여 각 서브밴드에서 코드워드의 에너지 크기로 재정렬된 인덱스 테이블을 이용한다. 코드북 탐색 시 인덱스 테이블을 이용하여 코드워드의 큰 계수 값과 그에 대응하는 입력벡터의 원소를 먼저 비교함으로써 PDE의 탈출 조건을 조기에 만족하게 되어 탐색 시간이 줄어들게 된다.
