Analysis of Flow Field Including Bodies Steadily Moving Around the Free-surface by FLUENT-VOF Method (FLUENT-VOF법을 이용한 자유수면 부근을 정속으로 움직이는 물체주위 유동해석)

  • VOF method is known as one of the most effective numerical techniques handling two-fluid domains of different density simultaneously. Present study deals with the numerical analysis of flow field around bodies steadily moving near free-surface using FLUENT-VOF method. Validations were made by applying to three typical examples ; 2-D submerged hydrofoil, 3-D surface piercing body and container ship. It was found that the commercial software, FLUENT, is useful in practical use, and VOF method is capable of handling free-surface around moving bodies although discussions are limited to the analysis in qualitative sense.

  • A new numerical scheme for two-phase flows, the Hybrid VOF method has been developed for improved free surface capturing. The present new method is a volume capturing based VOF method coupled with a reinitialization procedure of a Level-set method. For validation, the proposed method is applied to two test cases: spherical bubble rising and dam breaking. The calculated results by using the Hybrid VOF method with the two previously applied VOF formulations are compared with available numerical and experimental data. It is found that the new method provides more accurate results than the two previous ones.

  • A new numerical scheme solving two-phase flow, the Hybrid VOF method for improved free surface capturing has been developed by combining a volume capturing VOF method with the Level-Set reinitialization procedure. For validation, the proposed method is applied to 3-D bubble rising problem, dam breaking and the free surface flow around a commercial container ship. The calculated results by using the Hybrid VOF method with the two previously applied VOF formulations are compared with available numerical and experimental data. It is found that the new method provides more reasonable results than the two previous ones.

  • This study is to numerically investigate the characteristics of wave energy variations propagating over impermeable submerged breakwaters with irregular waves. Two-dimensional numerical wave flume based on the VOF method was used. VOF method is the most efficient capable of simulating free surfaces including wave breaking. From the computed frequency spectrum results, wave breaking play important role in ability of the submerged breakwaters to dissipate incident wave energy. In case of occurring wave breaking, our analysis shows that wave energy moves to short wave period on one-row impermeable submerged breakwater's lee side and is widely distributed not having peak period on two- row impermeable submerged breakwater's lee side.

  • Numerical analysis of a gaseous jet submerged in a liquid environment was carried out using the volume of fluid(VOF) method to simulate the kinematics of the gas-liquid interface. Two nozzle geometries were tested, one for Fanno tube and the other for converging diverging nozzle. Commercial code was used for the present calculation. Transient behavior of a gaseous jet since its start showed periodic nature of the jet, which was also observed in previous measurements.

  • 최근, 자유수면을 갖는 비압축성 유체의 해석을 위해 Hirt and Nichols(1981)가 제안한 VOF법이 자유수면을 취급하는 많은 학문분야에서 활발히 활용되고 있다. 특히, 일본에서 잠제에 의한 쇄파해석에 암전 등(1994)이 처음으로 VOF법을 적용한 이래 많은 연구자에 의한 공동연구의 결과로 개발된 CADMAS-SURF(해안개발기술연구 Center, 2001)는 사용자가 직접 입·출력을 제어할 수 있는 효과적인 2차원파동장의 해석프로그램으로 알려져 있다. 국내에서는 김 등(2001, 2002)이 최초로 VOF-SOLA법을 이용한 수치파동수로를 제안하고 잠제주변의 파동장해석을 수행하고 있다.   • 수정된 SIMPLE법과 VOF의 결합으로 predictor-two step corrector-VOF라고 불리는 새로운 알고리즘이 주조 시 용탕 충전과정을 해석하기 위해 개발되었다. 운동량보존으로부터 유도된 새 2단계 속도 경계조건 처리법은 용탕의 자유표면을 추적하는 데 사용되었다. 본 연구에서는 2개의 예제 계산을 통해 계산정확도와 속도에 대한 Courant 수의 영향을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 적당한 Courant 수의 증가는 계산 정확도의 감소 없이 용탕 계산 속도를 향상시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 만족할 만한 계산 정확도와 효율이 이 알고리즘의 실제 제품 해석을 통해 얻어졌다.

  • 자유표면 유동을 시뮬레이션할 수 있는 수치 알고리듬 중 가장 최근에 개발된 volume of fluid (VOF) 방법을 이용하여 뚜껑이 닫힌 사각 컨테이너 속의 슬라싱을 시뮬레이션 하였다. 그 결과 유동이 작은 경우에는 알고리듬이 불안정하게 되어 장기간 시뮬레이션을 어렵게 하는 문제점이 발견되었다. 이 문제점을 해결하기 위해 VOF 알고리듬이 불안정하게 되어 장기간 시뮬레이션을 어렵게하는 문제점이 발견되었다. 이 문제점을 해결하기 위해 VOF 알고리듬 중 유량이동 알고리듬을 수정하여 원래의 알고리듬으로 시뮬레이션한 결과와 비교 분석하였다

  • We present a new interface tracking method for computing two-phase flow. This method is based on VOF method coupled with Level set method. The method is verified to calculate an interfacial curvature accurately as well as to achieve volume conservation during the whole computation period. We apply the present method to calculate a falling drop. The calculated shape and terminal velocity of the falling drop showed good agreement with the data reported in the literature. Also, the present method was proven to be applicable to drop-wall collision phenomenon.

  • In this study, a three-dimensional gravity casting problem has been examined to investigate a coupled phenomenon of the filling and solidification process. This work simultaneously considers the two key phenomena of metal casting : the fluid flow during mold filling, and solidification process. The VOF method is used to analyze the free surface flow during filling and the equivalent specific heat method is employed to model the latent heat release during solidification. The time-implicit filling algorithm is applied to save the computational time for analyzing the mold filling process. The three-dimensional benchmark problem used in the MCWASP VII has been solved using both the implicit and explicit algorithm, and the present results are compared with the benchmark experimental results and the other numerical results.
