Classification and identification of organic aerosols in the atmosphere over Seoul using two dimensional gas chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry (GC×GC/TOF-MS) data (GC×GC/TOF-MS를 이용한 서울 대기 중 유기 에어로졸의 분류 및 동정)

  • To identify a variety of organic compounds in the ambient aerosols, the two-dimensional gas chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry (GCxGC) system (2DGC) has been applied. While 2DGC provides more peaks, the amount of the generated data becomes huge. A two-step approach has been proposed to efficiently interpret the organic aerosol analysis data. The two-dimensional 2DGC data were divided into 6 chemical groups depending on their volatility and polarity. Using these classification standards, all the peaks were subject to both qualitative and quantitative analyses and then classified into 8 classes. The aerosol samples collected in Seoul in summer 2013 and winter 2014 were used as the test case. It was found that some chemical classes such as furanone showed seasonal variation in the high polarity-volatile organic compounds (HP-VOC) group. Also, for some chemical classes, qualitative and quantitative analyses showed different trends. Limitations of the proposed method are discussed.

  • We have designed a portable electronic nose (e-nose) system using an array of commercial gas sensors and personal digital assistants (PDA) for the recognition and analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the field. Field screening of pollutants has been a target of instrumental development during the past years. A portable e-nose system was advantageous to localize the special extent of a pollution or to find pollutants source. The employment of PDA improved the user-interface and data transfer by Internet from on-site to remote computer. We adapted the Lavenberg-Marquardt algorithm based on the back-propagation and proposed the method that could predict the concentration levels of VOC gases after classification by separating neural network into two parts.

Degradation of Volatile Organic Compound Mixtures Using a Biofiltration System (생물여과 시스템을 이용한 다성분계 휘발성 유기화합물의 분해)

  • A bench-scale air biofilter was evaluated for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a gas stream. Compost and peat were used as the biological attachment media. Biofilter operating parameters such as incoming VOCs concentrations, temperature, and packing materials were examined. After 26 days of acclimation periods, at 25$^{\circ}C$ and 45$^{\circ}C$, the biofilter removed more than 90% of 30 to 72 mg/㎥ of total VOC. After 40 days of operation, the concentrations of isoprene, toluene, and m-xylene were reduced to 96∼99, 91∼93, and 91∼93% of the original concentrations. VOC removal efficiency was not affected by the temperature. The medium pH was maintained near neutral (pH 6.5∼7.1). After 37 days of operation, the total bacteria count in the biofilter media increased to 1.12${\times}$10(sup)8 cells/g of medium.

  • 본 논문은 $TiO_2$(Degussa, P-25), 바인더(A-9540) 그리고 용제의 배합비율을 바꾸어 코팅액을 제조하여 금속판에 코팅한 후, 고농도의 IPA를 주입하여 분해효율을 고찰하였다. 고형분 함량 비율 변화에서는 $TiO_2$ 함량은 증가하고 바인더가 감소할수록 좋은 효율을 보였고, 용제는 ethanol과 MEK 두 가지 중에 MEK의 분해효율이 좋았다. 용제(MEK)함량 비율 변화에서는 일정량의 용제가 있을 경우 분해효율이 좋았고, 용제함량이 낮아질 경우 코팅액 점도가 높아지고 건조 후에는 표면이 갈라지는 현상을 보였다. 결국, 용제함량 비율 변화는 바인더 함량 실험에도 영향을 주어 1.75:0.25:10일 때 가장 좋은 분해효율을 보였다.

체류시간과 온도에 따른 VOC제거에 관한 연구

  • 휘발성 유기화합물로 오염된 가스 제거를 위한 최적 조건을 찾고자 VOC를 생물학적 처리방법 중 하나인 생물여과기를 이용하여 조사하였다. 100여일 운영 후, 25와 $45^{\circ}C$조건 보다 $32^{\circ}C$조건에서 휘발성 유기화합물의 분해력이 높게 나타났다. 생물여과기는 다양한 휘발성 유기화합물 농도와 EBRT 조건에서 약 100일간 운전되었으며, 최대 제거량 128 $g/m^{3}h$에서 113 $g/m^{3}h$ 임을 알 수 있었다. 휘발성 유기화합물은 체류시간 1~3 min에서 제거율이 30~96%까지 변화하는 것을 보여 주었다. 이상의 휘발성 유기화합물 중 일부는 심각한 환경문제를 야기시키므로 이들 휘발성 유기화합물을 완전 제거하거나 최소화시킬 수 있다면 생물여과 시스템은 안정성과 경제적 측면에서 매우 바람직하겠다. 본 연구 결과는 미생물을 이용한 생물여과법이 효과적인 처리 공정임을 보여주었고 혼합된 휘발성 유기화합물이 존재하더라도 그 성분을 동시에 분해할 수 있다는 결과를 보여 주었다.

  • The semiconductor process currently emits various by-products and unused gases. Emissions containing pollutants are generally classified into categories such as organic, acid, alkali, thermal, and cabinet exhaust. They are discharged after treatment in an atmospheric prevention facility suitable for each exhaust type. The main components of organic exhaust are volatile organic compounds (VOC), which is a generic term for oxygen-containing hydrocarbons, sulfur-containing hydrocarbons, and volatile hydrocarbons, while the main components of alkali exhaust include ammonia and tetramethylammonium hydroxide. The purpose of this study was to determine the combustion characteristics and analyze the NOX reduction rate by maintaining a direct combustion and temperature to process organic and alkaline exhaust gases simultaneously. Acetone, isopropyl alcohol (IPA), and propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA) were used as VOCs and ammonia was used as an alkali exhaust material. Independent and VOC-ammonia mixture combustion tests were conducted for each material. The combustion tests for the VOCs confirmed that complete combustion occurred at an equivalence ratio of 1.4. In the ammonia combustion test, the NOX concentration decreased at a lower equivalence ratio. In the co-combustion of VOC and ammonia, NO was dominant in the NOX emission while NO2 was detected at approximately 10 ppm. Overall, the concentration of nitrogen oxide decreased due to the activation of the oxidation reaction as the reaction temperature increased. On the other hand, the concentration of carbon dioxide increased. Flameless combustion with an electric heat source achieved successful combustion of VOC and ammonia. This technology is expected to have advantages in cost and compactness compared to existing organic and alkaline treatment systems applied separately.

  • VOCs의 일종인 benzene을 흡수하기 위한 최적의 세정액으로 열매체유를 선정하여, 충진탑(Packed Tower), 흡수칼럼에 세정액만 채워 bubble 시킨 기포탑(Aeration Tower)와 충진물과 세정액을 채워 bubble 시킨 Combined Packed & Aeration Tower의 3가지 시스템을 비교한 결과 Combined Packed 쇼 Aeration Tower 시스템에서 benzene 흡수효율이 가장 좋았다.

Performance of a Hollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor for the Treatment of Gaseous Toluene (중공사막 결합형 생물반응기를 이용한 기체상 톨루엔 제거 특성 검토)

  • In this study, a novel bioreactor system using a submerged hollow fiber membrane module (so called hollow fiber membrane bioreactor, HFMB) was applied to investigate feasibility and biodegradation capacity of the system for the treatment of gaseous toluene. First an abiotic test was conducted to determine the mass transfer coefficient, showing the value was similar to that obtained from a diffuser system using fine bubbles. Second, in the presence of toluene-degrading microorganisms, the HFMB was operated at different inlet toluene loading rates of 50, 100, $500\;g/m^3/hr$, and overall removal efficiencies were maintained in the range of $70{\sim}80%$. In addition, elimination capacities(EC) were increased up to $800\;g/m^3/hr$, which was substantially higher than maximum ECs for toluene reported in the biofiltration literature. Consequently, the HFMB was considered as an alternative method over other conventional VOC-treating technologies.

Reliability Analysis of VOC Data for Opinion Mining (오피니언 마이닝을 위한 VOC 데이타의 신뢰성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify how 7 sentiment domains extracted through sentiment analysis from social media have an influence on business performance. It consists of three phases. In phase I, we constructed the sentiment lexicon after crawling 45,447 pieces of VOC (Voice of the Customer) on 26 auto companies from the car community and extracting the POS information and built a seven-sensitive domains. In phase II, in order to retain the reliability of experimental data, we examined auto-correlation analysis and PCA. In phase III, we investigated how 7 domains impact on the market share of three major (GM, FCA, and VOLKSWAGEN) auto companies by using linear regression analysis. The findings from the auto-correlation analysis proved auto-correlation and the sequence of the sentiments, and the results from PCA reported the 7 sentiments connected with positivity, negativity and neutrality. As a result of linear regression analysis on model 1, we indentified that the sentimental factors have a significant influence on the actual market share. In particular, not only posotive and negative sentiment domains, but neutral sentiment had significantly impacted on auto market share. As we apply the availability of data to the market, and take advantage of auto-correlation of the market-related information and the sentiment, the findings will be a huge contribution to other researches on sentiment analysis as well as actual business performances in various ways.

A Study on the Automatic Speech Control System Using DMS model on Real-Time Windows Environment (실시간 윈도우 환경에서 DMS 모델을 이용한 자동 음성 제어 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문은 인식 속도의 개선을 위해 단어의 지속시간에 따라 Section의 수를 변경한 가변섹션 수 DMS모델을 사용한 실시간 인식 시스템을 연구하고 인식된 결과를 실제 수행하도록 하는 시스템을 구현하는 것이 목적이다. 이러한 윈도우 음성 제어 시스템 구현을 위해 음성의 자동 검출, 윈도우 제어 모듈 구현, 동적 모델 재구성을 이용하여 적용된 단어 단위인식 시스템의 단점을 장점으로 수용하는 시스템을 구현하였고 본 시스템의 이름은 “VocManagerII”라 명명하였다. 구현된 시스템의 성능 평가 결과 인식 및 제어 수행 속도는 1초이내에 이루어지며 인식율은 66개의 기본 명령어에 대하여 화자 종속 99.36%, 화자 독립 99.08%의 좋은 인식율을 보여 주었다.
