  • This paper presents the results of the effects on the inclusion of the pigment in the color asphalt mixture. The particle size of the pigment is extremely finer than that of the filler and should be reduced the amount of the filler used. It was found in the present practise that the total weight of 2% of the pigment in the weight of the total aggregate was used during the mix design. The extra inclusion of the pigment in the mixture increased the amount of the filler and affected on the volumetric properties such as void ratio and VMA. It has related with the performance and distress of the pavement and found that the mechanical properties have decreased.

  • Weight minimization for the steel bridge girders using an approximation based optimization technique is presented. To accomplish this, an optimization oriented finite element program is used to achieve continuous weight reduction until the optimum is reached. To reduce computational cost, approximation techniques are adopted during the optimization process. Constraint deletion as well as intermediate design variables and responses are also used for higher qualitv of approximations and for a better convergence rate. Both the reliability and the effectiveness of the underlying optimization method are reviewed.

  • The paper explores the potential of applicability of Genetic programming approach (GP), adopted in this investigation, to model the combined effects of five independent variables to predict the mini-slump, the plate cohesion meter, the induced bleeding test, the J-fiber penetration value, and the compressive strength at 7 and 28 days of self-compacting slurry infiltrated fiber concrete (SIFCON). The variables investigated were the proportions of limestone powder (LSP) and sand, the dosage rates of superplasticiser (SP) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA), and water-to-binder ratio (W/B). Twenty eight mixtures were made with 10-50% LSP as replacement of cement, 0.02-0.06% VMA by mass of cement, 0.6-1.2% SP and 50-150% sand (% mass of binder) and 0.42-0.48 W/B. The proposed genetic models of the self-compacting SIFCON offer useful modelling approach regarding the mix optimisation in predicting the fluidity, the cohesion, the bleeding, the penetration, and the compressive strength.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate protein effects on the adaptation of shift work. Since biorhythms differ according to the time of day, an investigation of the change of metabolism during day-shift and night-shift was undertaken by dividing twenty 3-shift worker into two groups: dormitory diet group and milk & egg supplemented group. Between the two groups, estimations were made on the concentrations of serum protain, albumin, cholesterol and cortisol and the excretion of vanilymandelic acid(VMA), creatinine and nitrogen in urine. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Serum ingredients were gathered from workers at 6:00-7:00h and 14:00-15:00h on the day of their change from morning shift(6:00-14:00h) to night shift(22:00-6:00h). On examnation of the serum ingredient it was found that, in dormitory diet group only the concentrarion level of serum albumin showed a change of rhythm adapted to night work, and in the milk & egg supplemented group the concentration levels of serum protein, albumin and cholesterol all showed a change of rhythm adapted to night work. Serum cortisol of both groups showed the same rhythm as during morining shfits, which implied nonadatation to night work, but the concentration was observed to be lower. 2. Excretion of urinary VMA and nitrogen were higher during night work than during morning work: they were also higher on the 6th day than on the 1st, in comparing the two groups, excretion of VMA was higher among the dormitory diet group, whereas the opposite was ture for excretion of nitrogen among the milk & egg supplemented group. There was no sign of difference in excretion of cretinine among the two experiment groups.

  • Criteria of the current asphalt mix design, Marshall method, includes the stability and flow which are not related with field performance of HMA mixture, together with the air void, Void filled with asphalt (VFA) and/or Void of mineral Aggregate(VMA). In addition, the limits of stability and flow are satisfied in most cases, the Optimum asphalt content (OAC) is determined based on volumetric properties, such as the air void and/or VFA and/of VMA. Therefore, many researchers have sought mechanistic properties which can replace the stability and flow, making the designed mixture having potential for better field performance. This study initiated to develope a mix design by introducing two performance-related mechanistic properties, the deformation strengh and fracture energy, in place of the stability and flow of the Marshall method. The deformation strength $(S_D)$ from the Kim Test has a high correlation with rutting property and the fracture energy(FE) from the indirect tensile test represents the fatigue cracking property of asphalt mixture. Four types of asphalt mixture were prepared for examining possibility of using the suggested mix design method in comparison with current methods. The results showed that mechanical properties were reflected in determination of OAC with this suggested mix design, unlike the existing Marshall method.

  • This article aims at the study on Improvement of legal System which is related to automated vehicles in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. Legal aspects of driving automation have two view points. One is to permit a automated vehicle, the other is to regulate the behavior of driver on the road. Signifying elements of the 4th industrial revolution are IoT, AI, big data, cloud computing etc. Automated vehicles are the imbodiment of those new ICT technologies. The vehicle management act(VMA) rules about vehicle registration and approval of vehicle types. VMA defines a automated vehicle as a vehicle which can be self driven without handling of driver or passenger. Vehicle makers can take temporary driving permission for testing and research the driving automation. Current definition of automated vehicle of VMA is not enough for including all levels of SAE driving automation. In the VMA must be made also a new vehicle safty standard for automated vehicle. In the national assembly is curruntly pending three draft bills about legislation of artificial intelligence. Driving automation and AI technologies must be parallel developed. It is highly expected that more proceeding research of driving automation can be realized as soon as possible.

  • To estimate for an error signal with sigmoid nonlinearity what reduced constellation applies closed eye pattern in the initial equalization, there can be improves problems of previous soft decision-directed algorithm that increasing estimate complexity and decreasing of convergence speed when substitute high-order constellation. The characteristic of sigmoid function is adjusted by a mean and a variance parameter, so it depends on adjustment of variance that what reduced constellation $values(\gamma)$ can have ranges between + $\gamma$ and - $\gamma$. In this paper, we proposed Variable Modulus Algorithm (VMA) that can be improving a performance of steady-state by adjustment of variance when equalization works normally and each cluster of constellation decrease.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest 10 mm aggregate specification for thin layer asphalt pavement using steel slag. Aggregate gradations of conventional dense-graded asphalt mixtures were made by fuller's model, whereas 10 mm dense-graded asphalt mixture was obtained tender mix due to close to the maximum density line. The proposed aggregate gradation specification was made to have enough VMA and well-interlocking refer to foreign standards. The correlation between the proposed aggregate gradation and the properties of mixtures were analyzed using Gradation Ratio (GR) and Compacted Aggregate Density (CAD). The CAD index has a high $R^2$ of 0.86-0.99 because the CAD index is able to reflect various aggregate properties. As the results of evaluation by CAD index the proposed aggregate gradation provides more reliable stability and VMA. The percent passing (%) of aggregate size smaller than 0.3 mm was limited 10% or more for improving crack resistance. This limitation increased for 15% of the asphalt mixture's toughness.

  • Marshall stability and flow don't reflect mechanical property of asphalt mixtures and have little correlation with rutting-related performance. There is often rutting occurred on the asphalt pavement which was constructed using a mixture passing the specification for stability and flow. This study dealt with comparison of volumetric properties of mixtures from Marshall mix design and from Superpave mix design. This study used one binder, three aggregates and two gradations. The mixtures were manufactured by each mix design method. Result showed that OAC, VMA and VFA by Marshall mix design were higher than those by Superpave mix design. This is because Mashall mixture has the gradation prone to rutting and it should be further investigated whether or not the high OAC is direct cause of rutting in asphalt pavement.
