  • Web-based virtual machine/manufacturing system (VMS) utilizes Virtual Device Network (VDN.) VDN inevitably involves the implementation of Distributed Monitoring and Control Networks (DMCN). In general, one needs to integrate device (control) network and IP network to realize DMCN over IP network or internet, which can be viewed as a VDN. In this study, LonWorks networking technology is used for device network and the transmission characteristics of LonWorks/IP-based VDN is investigated. A method to minimize the transmission delay in the LonWorks/IP networks is also suggested.

  • Demand for the technology for access to device control network in industry and for access to building automation system via internet is on the increase. In such technology integration of a device control network with a data network such as internet and organizing wide-ranging DCS(distributed control system) is needed, and it can be realized in the framework of VDN(virtual device network). Specifications for device control network and data network are quite different because of the differences in application. So a router that translates the communication protocol between device control network and data network, and efficiently transmits information to destination is needed for implementation of the VDN(virtual device network). This paper proposes the concept of NCS(networked control system) based on VDN(virtual device network) and suggests the routing algorithm that uses embedded system.

  • Recent trends in internet access to the device network require that information be provided from anywhere in the enterprise. One then needs to integrate both device network protocol and data network protocol to realize Virtual Device Network (VDN). Interoperability between devices and equipments is essential to enhance the quality and the performance of VDN. LonWorks technology is incorporated as device network protocol for interoperability. VDN integrating both device network and data network has varying time delay. Inherent varying time delay of VDN can significantly degrade the reliability of Distributed Control System. This study investigates the transmission characteristics of VDN and s...

  • A general idea of implementing and managing real-time control on the VDN for rail transit vehicles is presented. In particular, the virtual device network considered in this paper is composed of Ethernet as the data network and LonWorks network as the device (control) network. A LonWorks/IP web server was used as a gateway to realize peer to peer data communication on the virtual device networks. Experimental results are given to validate the suggested architecture.

  • The network induced transmission delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system on LonWorks over IP (LonWorks/IP) virtual device network (VDN). LonWorks/IP virtual device network is an integrated form of LonWorks device network and IP data network. The time delay in servo control on the LonWorks/IP-based VDN has highly stochastic nature. In the real-time distributed servo applications for predictive maintenance on the factory floor, timely response is essential.

  • Requirements for Distributed Monitoring and Control Networks(DMCN) differ greatly from those of typical data networks. Specifically, my DMCN technology which employs a filedbus protocol is different from IP network protocol TCP/IP. In general, one needs to integrate fieldbus protocol and TCP/IP to realize DMCN over IP network or internet, which can be viewed as Virtual Device Network(VDN). Interoperability between devices and equipments is essential to enhance the quality and the performance of predictive maintenance(PM). • LonWorks over IP(LonWorks-IP) virtual device network(VDN) is an integrated form of LonWorks device network and IP data network. In especially real-time distributed servo applications on the factory floor, timely response is essential for predictive and preventive maintenance. The time delay in servo control on LonWorks-IP based VDN has highly stochastic nature. LonWorks-IP based VDN induced transmission delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system and can't give an effective preventive and predictive maintenance. In order to guarantee the stability and performance of the system, and give an effective preventive and predictive maintenance, LonWorks-IP based VDN induced time-varying uncertain time delay needs to be predicted and compensated. In this paper new Pill control scheme based on Smith predictor, disturbance observer and band pass filter is proposed and tested through computer simulation about position control of DC servo motor. It is shown that how can the proposed control scheme be designed to minimize the effects of uncertain varying time delay and model uncertainties. The validity of the proposed control scheme is compared and demonstrated with the comparison of internal model controllers(IMC) based on Smith predictor with and without disturbance observer.
