Design of VDL Mode 2 Protocol under AOA Network for the Implementation of Bit-oriented ATS Applications (AOA망 환경에서 ATS 애플리케이션 구현을 위한 VDL Mode 2 데이터링크 프로토콜 설계)

  • As one of YHF digital data link technologies, VDL Mode 2 is designed to be an air-to-ground subnetwork of the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) based on the Open System Interconnection (OSI) architecture. VDL Mode 2 can be used in ATS Applications especially for CPDLC and ADS. And it is also expected to replace ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) which has broadly been used in AOC for over 20 years. This paper presents the design result of VDL Mode 2 system under AOA (ACARS Over AVLC) environment for the implementation of bit-oriented ATS applications. The system is composed of airborne and ground subsystem. Airborne subsystem consists of VDR, CMU and an aircraft test equipment with CPDLC/ADS client applications for operational test and ground system consists of Ground Station which includes ground VDR and ground communication controller, simple DSP (Datalink Service Processor) and a ground test equipment with CPDLC/ADS server applications.

Modeling & Performance Analysis of the MAC Protocol for VDL in the Aeronautical Mobile Communication System (항공이동통신 시스템에서 VDL을 위한 MAC 프로토콜 모델링 및 성능 분석)

  • This paper analysis the STDMA protocol in aviation wireless data communications and carry out the performance analysis with simulation. The STDMA protocol that is currently being used in VDL Mode-4 has TDMA system characteristics, which provides time-division into several slots per one frame. The results of modeled STDMA protocol's data channel analysis show approximate 0.7 channel throughput at the transmission probabilities 0.045, 0.2, and 0.3 in the aspects of channel throughput. The delay time are 2.32434sec, 2.0293sec, and 2.12128sec respectively. These results shows the good stability in spite of variable transmission probabilities. Consequently, it is expected that STDMA protocol would be used properly for domestic communication demands and supervision system improvement by means of applying this to point-to-point communication and data/location broadcasting as a fundamental technology in CNS/ATM.

  • This paper, describes the VDR physical layer design in VDL Mode-2 in order to meet the requirements of International standards. VDR's frequency band is 117.975~137MHz, and CSMA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access), D8PSK(Differential Eight Phase Shift Keyed), 25KHz's channel bandwidth use. The analysis of the isolated channel from near channels, sensitivity of the receiver, dynamic range of the receiver, linear of the transmitter and energy of spurious for linear and non-linear simulation as a requirement condition of performance of VDR and teaches the course of design. The transmitting power level should be lower than 5dB from Po1dB point and the selected IF frequency is 45MHz to suppress the spurious signals. The receiver designed has 4.5dB of Noise figure, 27.52dB of Es/No, Mixer isolation up to 30dB, IIP3 power of LNA up to +10dBm to minimize the intermodulation.

  • VDL(VHF Data Link) Mode E uses TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) based aeronautical communication technologies for airborne environments. In the VDL Mode E, aircraft uses RR(Reservation Requests) slot to request data slot. However, RR needs a long guard time, since aircraft communication spans a considerable distance. The more number of aircrafts causes a larger amount of guard times which can make a throughput decreased. In this paper, we propose an enhanced MAC to reduce the guard time by using the distance information of aircraft. The ground station sends management data including time stamp. And then all aircraft can measure their distance from the ground station.

  • 국제민간항공기구(ICAO)의 차세대 항행시스템(new CNS/ATM) 전환계획에 따라 전 세계적으로 항공통신, 항법, 감시 및 항공교통관리 분야의 항행안전시설과 대응되는 항공기 탑재시스템의 변화가 진행되고 있다. 특히 항공통신과 감시 분야에서는 공대지 데이터링크 기술을 활용한 새로운 항공교통서비스(CPDLC, ADS, ADS-B, FIS-B, TIS-B)가 도입되어 공역 처리능력을 제고하고 항공운항 안전에 기여하며 조종사와 관제사의 편의성을 대폭 향상시킬 것으로 기대되고 있다. 현재 민간항공에서 활발히 이용되고 있는 대표적인 데이터링크 기술인 ACARS 시스템은 국제민간항공기구가 표준화하여 제정한 VDL 기술로 대체되고 있으며 HFDL, Mode S, AMSS, UAT 등이 현재 가용한 데이터링크 기술로 개발되어 활용되고 있다. 미국과 유럽을 중심으로 관련 기술에 대한 검증과 시범 운용 사업이 활발하게 진행되고 있으며 2020년 이후를 대비한 미래 항공통신 신기술 연구에도 세계가 매진하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재까지 개발된 공대지 데이터링크 기술의 특성을 개관하고 관련 응용기술 구현 현황과 데이터링크 관련 세계의 미래 통신기술 연구 동향을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 오늘날 위성항법, 위성통신을 이용한 항공항법감시의 새로운 변화 가운데 국제민간항공기구(ICAO)에서 VDL(VHF Digital Link) Mode 4로 채택된 STDMA (Self-organized Time Division Multiple Access)에 관심이 증대되고 있다. 해양분야에서는 선박위치 자동인식시스템(AIS) 및 선박운행관리시스템(VTS)에서 2002년부터 적용될 예정이고, 항공분야에서는 향후 몇 년후에는 ADS-B, SMGCS에서 응용될 가능성이 높다. 본 연구에서는 STDMA를 이용한 SMGCS구현을 위한 기술개발로서 사전에 측지된 기준국으로부터 실시간으로 GPS 보정값을 생성, 전송하도록 하는 실시간 DGPS기술과 동기신호에 따라 시분할 다중접속을 구현한 소프트웨어 기반의 TDMA기술을 구현하였으며 이를 연구원내에서 차량이동 실험을 수행하여 다수의 이동국간에 측위값을 상호전송함으로써 각각의 위치를 실기간으로 파악할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • In this paper, we show that the SIDMA(Self-organized Time Division Multiple Access) protocol using aviation surveillance data link now, designs to the ICAO DO 9816 documentation sequence. This protocol makes use of the VDL(VHF Data Link) Mode 4 and UAT(Universal Access Transceiver) system's MAC(Media Access Control) layer. We make sure of the simulation result and implementation of STDMA protocol program in accompany with the ICAO documentation sequence. This program operates the slot allocation and reservation with report rate when protocol transmits data and calculates slot address.
