용융염 침적법에 의한 VC Coating 금형강의 인성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Toughness of Die Steel Coated with VC (vanadium carbide) by Immersing in Molten Borax Bath)

  • Bending fracture strength test and impact strength test were made for VC coated die steels treated by immersing in molten borax bath and for hardened steels which were quenched and tempered, in order to clarify the effect of VC coating at $1000^{\circ}C$. The material used in this investigation was representative cold and hot work die steels STD11, STD61. The results obtained are as follows. 1) The bending fracture strength of VC coated die steel (STD11, STD61) was lessened with increasing the thickness of the VC coated layer. 2) With increasing the immersing time (imcreasing the thickness of the VC coated layer) the maximum hardness was obtained at 480 minutes holding, after that holding time hardness was decreased. 3) The impact strength of the VC coated die steel was not decreased. In the casse of STD11, it was higher than that of the quenched condition especially at low tempering temperature, and vice versa at high tempering temperature. However in the case of STD61 shows the result to the contrary.

  • The effect of VC addition on the microstructural evolution of Fe-TiC cermet has been investigated. The microstructures of the Fe-TiC varied with the amount of VC addition. The addition of 1wt% VC enhanced the instability of liquid-solid interface ; the dissolving interface showed round shape instead of facetted one which was ascribed to the increase of lattice mismatch between TiC and solid-solution carbide. in the speci-men with 10wt% VC the new set of solid-solution carbide grains of uniform and small size was formed in-side coarse TiC particles by diffusion induced recrystallizatin (DIR). With increasing the heat-treatment time fine recrystallized grains were dispersed homogeneously in the matrix and resulted in the increase in fracture strength.

  • The cooling of precooked skipjack Katsuwonus pelamis is a critical thermal process in tuna canning because it affects the quality and yield of the canned tuna, as well as productivity. The combined method of vacuum cooling followed by water spraying (VC-WS) was investigated to increase cooling rates, and prevent loss of yield of the precooked tuna during vacuum cooling. For VC-WS, the precooked skipjack was cooled to $30^{\circ}C$ by vacuum at 31 mmHg and then wetted by spraying water for 2 min. The effects of VC-WS on cooling times, cooling loss, color, texture and lipid oxidation of the precooked tuna were compared with conventional spray cooling (SC).The cooling times for precooked skipjack from $75^{\circ}C-30^{\circ}C$ were 11 min for VC-WS and 145 min for SC. The cooling losses were 1.7 % for VC-WS and 1.6 % for SC. Peroxide and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values of VC-WS were lower than those of SC. The loin of the VC-WS-treated skipjack was brighter and harder than the SC loin, as indicated by higher lightness and hardness values. Based on these results, we believe that the VC-WS process could compensate for the cooling loss of vacuum cooling and minimize changes in quality that occur during cooling of precooked skipjack tuna.

  • Bending fatigue strength tests were made for VC coated die steels which were coated by immersing in a molten borax bath and for hardened die steels which were quenched and tempered, in order to clarify the effect of VC coating at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1025^{\circ}C$. The material used in this investigation was a representative cold and hot die steels STD11, STD61. The results obtained are as follows. 1) The endurance limit of VC coated die steels was a little lower than that of hardened die steels. It is considered to be mainly due to the decfl.lase of hardness in the substrates. Accordingly, the endurance limit reo covered almost to the level of hardened die steels by an additional diffusion treatment. 2) The initiation point of fatigue fracture of VC coated die steels in reversed bening was on the substrate just under the VC layer. Hence, the endurance limit is corrected to the hardness of this part. 3) But, there is a considerable scatter in this relationship and the endurance limit of VC coated die steels was a little lower than that of hardened die steels with equal hardness. These results suggest that the fatigue strength of VC coated die steels is determined not only by the hardness but also by other factors. For example. the residual stress in the substrate just under VC coating layer is one of the factors besides hardness which is mainly related to the retained austenite(${\gamma}_R$).

비상장 스타트업의 주가수익률과 분산 (Stock Price Return and Variance of Unlisted Start-ups)

  • 본 연구에서는 벤처캐피탈협회가 보유하고 있는 VC 펀드 관련 자료를 가지고 VC의 실현된 수익률을 투자약정 수준에서 측정하였다. 또한, 동 자료가 제공하는 자세한 정보를 가지고 국내 최초로 비상장 피투자사의 주가수익률과 분산을 측정할 수 있었다. 분석결과, VC 펀드가 피투자사의 주가수익률보다 높은 실적을 보였다. 또한 VC 펀드가 투자한 스타트업의 경우 분산으로 측정된 총위험과 주가수익률 간에 양의 관계가 존재함을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 이들 기업의 총위험에 기초해 시장이 기대하는 수익률에 비해 측정된 주가수익률은 낮은 수준에 머무르고 있음도 발견하였다. 이는 비록 비상장사 스타트업이 고위험-고수익의 관계를 보장하더라도 개인투자자들이 비상장사에 직접 투자하기를 꺼리게 만드는 한 요인으로 작용할 수 있을 것이다.

Orexin-A inhibits capsaicin-induced changes in cyclooxygenase-2 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in trigeminal nucleus caudalis of rats

  • Background: The trigeminal nucleus caudalis (Vc) is a primary central site for trigeminal transmitting. Noxious stimulation of the trigeminal nociceptors alters the central synaptic releases and neural expression of some inflammatory and trophic agents. Orexin-A and the orexin 1 receptor (OX1R) are expressed in pain pathways including trigeminal pain transmission. However, the the mechanism(s) underling orexin-A effects on trigeminal pain modulation have not been fully clarified. Methods: Trigeminal pain was induced by subcutaneous injection of capsaicin in the upper lip in rats. The effect of trigeminal pain on cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in the Vc of animals was determined by immunofluorescence. Subsequently, OX1R agonist (orexin-A) and antagonist (SB-334867-A) was administrated in the Vc to investigate the possible roles of the Vc OX1R on changes in COX-2 and BDNF levels following pain induction. Results: The data indicated an increase in COX-2 and decrease in BDNF immuno-reactivity in the Vc of capsaicin, and capsaicin- pretreated with SB-334867-A (80 nM), groups of rat. However, the effect of capsaicin on COX-2 and BDNF expressions was reversed by a Vc microinjection of orexin-A (100 pM). Conclusions: Overall, the present data reveals that orexin-A can attenuate capsaicin-induced trigeminal pain through the modulation of pain effects on COX-2 and BDNF expressions in the Vc of rats.

소음영 진폐증 환자에서의 등기류용량(Volume of Isoflow)의 변화 (Change of Volume of Isoflow in Pneumoconiosis Patients with Small Opacity)

  • 연구배경 : 통상적인 폐기능 검사에 이상이 없는 초기단계의 단순 진폐증 환자들에서 세소기관지의 기능장애를 조기발견하는데 유용한 방법으로 알려진 등기류용량을 측정하여 분진작업에 기인한 세소기도 장해 여부를 알아보고 진폐증 환자들을 조기 관리하는데 등기류용량 측정의 적용에 대한 타당성 여부를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 : FEV1 80% 이상, FEV1/FVC 75% 이상인 분진폭로군 67명과 분진폭로력이 없는 20명을 대상으로 실내 공기 흡입 및 80% Helium과 20% 산소의 혼합가스 흡입 후 측정한 각각의 최대호출기류량곡선(maximal expiratory flow volume cuve)에서 ${\Delta}V_{max50},\;{\Delta}V_{max75},\;V_{iso}V/VC$을 구하여 진폐증 category 별로 대조군과 비교하였다. 결과: 1) 대조군에 비하여 전체 분진폭로군에서 ${\Delta}V_{max50}$${\Delta}V_{max75}$은 유의한 차이가 없었지만 $V_{iso}V/VC$은 현저하게 (p<0.01)증가되어 $V_{iso}V/VC$이 세소기도의 기능장해를 조기발견하는데 가장 유용한 지수임을 알 수 있었다. 2) 비흡연자를 포함한 분진폭로군과 흡연자만으로 이루어진 분진폭로군에서 $V_{iso}V/VC$의 분석결과가 매우 상이한 것으로 보아 흡연이 세소기관지병변을 초래하는데 중요한 요인으로 작용하였다. 4) 분진폭로군에서 흉부방사선사진상 진폐음의 조밀도가 증가함에 따라 $V_{iso}V/VC$이 증가되었으나 각각의 categry에서는 서로간에 유의한 차이가 없어 진폐음영의 조밀도와 세소기도 장해와는 유의한 연관성이 없었다. 4) 분진작업에 종사한 근무 기간과 $V_{iso}V/VC$의 증가와는 유의한 연관성이 없었다. 결론 : 단순진폐중 환자들에서 통상적인 폐기능검사에 이상소견이 없는 경우 등기류용량($V_{iso}V/VC$)을 측정하여 세소기도의 기능장애를 파악함으로써 진폐증의 조기관리에 도움이 될것으로 생각된다.

Vitamin C promotes the early reprogramming of fetal canine fibroblasts into induced pluripotent stem cells

  • Background: Canine induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are an attractive source for veterinary regenerative medicine, disease modeling, and drug development. Here we used vitamin C (Vc) to improve the reprogramming efficiency of canine iPSCs, and its functions in the reprogramming process were elucidated. Methods: Retroviral transduction of Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, c-Myc (OSKM), and GFP was employed to induce reprogramming in canine fetal fibroblasts. Following transduction, the culture medium was subsequently replaced with ESC medium containing Vc to determine the effect on reprogramming activity. Results: The number of AP-positive iPSC colonies dramatically increased in culture conditions supplemented with Vc. Vc enhanced the efficacy of retrovirus transduction, which appears to be correlated with enhanced cell proliferation capacity. To confirm the characteristics of the Vc-treated iPSCs, the cells were cultured to passage 5, and pluripotency markers including Oct4, Sox2, Nanog, and Tra-1-60 were observed by immunocytochemistry. The expression of endogenous pluripotent genes (Oct4, Nanog, Rex1, and telomerase) were also verified by PCR. The complete silencing of exogenously transduced human OSKM factors was observed exclusively in canine iPSCs treated with Vc. Canine iPSCs treated with Vc are capable of forming embryoid bodies in vitro and have spontaneously differentiated into three germ layers. Conclusions: Our findings emphasize a straightforward method for enhancing the efficiency of canine iPSC generation and provide insight into the Vc effect on the reprogramming process.

한국여성의 연령별 정상폐용적 측정 (The Lung Volumes of Korean Females)

  • The normal lung volumes were determined and subdivided under sitting position in 48 middle school girls, 49 high school girls and 44 house wives. All subjects were free of pulmonary and vascular diseases. The vital capacity was measured by Mckessons spirometer and the residual volume was determined by Rahn's three breathing method. 1. The lung volumes (BTPS) of middle school girls determined were: $RV\;0.59{\pm}0.11l\;FRC\;1.45{\pm}2.22l\;VC\;2.68{\pm}0.29l$ 2. The lung volumes (BTPS) of high school girls determined were: $RV\;0.83{\pm}0.19l\;FRC\;1.9{\pm}0.25l\;VC\;3.15{\pm}0.24l$ 3. The lung volumes (BTPS) of house wives determind were: $RV\;0.95{\pm}0.61{\ell}\;FRC\;2.1{\pm}0.25{\ell}\;VC\;3.06{\pm}0.29l$ 4. The calculated residual ratio $(RV/TLC{\times}100)$ were: $17.7{\pm}2.57%$ in middle school girls and $20.6{\pm}3.65%$ in high school girls and $24.0{\pm}2.31%$ in house wives 5. The functional residual ratio $(FRC/TLC{\times}100)$ were: $43.7{\pm}5.98%$ in middle school girls and $48.8{\pm}4.41%4 in high school girls and $52.6{\pm}5.38%$ in house wives. 6. The correlation coefficients between vital capacity and total lung capacity were r=0.96 in middle school girls and r=0.986 in high school girls and r=0.856 in house wives. 7. The regression equations were obtained follows: $TLC(l) =1.105{\times}VC+0.304$ (in middle school girls) $TLC(l) =1.551{\times}VC-0.902$ (in high school girls) $TLC(l) =0.999{\times}VC+0.954$ (in house wives)

Effects of Feeding Methods (Water vs. Feed) of Vitamin Con Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics in Broiler Chickens

  • This experiment was conducted to compare the effects of vitamin C supplemented in either feed or water on the performance and carcass characteristics of broilers during the hot season. For a 6 week feeding trial, a total of 330 broiler chicks (Ross, 4 d old, average 57 g BW) were alloted to five treatments. The treatments of vitamin C (VC) supplementation were 1) 0 ppm VC, 2) 10 ppm VC in feed, 3) 20 ppm VC in feed, 4) 5 ppm VC in water and 5) 10 ppm VC in water. During the starter phase (0-3 week), chicks on non-supplemented group grew slower (p<0.01) than the supplemented ones, and a similar trend was also noted during finisher stage and the overall stage. Feed intake was significantly (p<0.05) higher in supplemented groups and higher when fed in feed as compared with water during all stages. But feed conversion efficiency was significantly improved in non-supplemented groups compared to supplemented ones in finisher and overall stage. The digestibility of gross energy and ether extract was significantly (p<0.05) higher during starter phase in supplemented, given in feed, and at higher levels as compared with non-supplemented, given in water, and at lower levels, respectively. The bone resistance was significantly (p<0.05) higher in supplemented, supplied in feed groups as compared with their counterparts. Except breast meat, the dressing percentage and abdominal fat were also higher in supplemented group and the dressing percentage was significantly (p<0.05) higher in VC supplemented in feed as to water, but no effect of supplementation was noticed on meat color when compared between the methods of feeding (feed vs. water). The levels of VC in plasma and liver increased linearly, as the level of supplementation both in feed and water increased and it was significantly (p<0.05) higher in feed group as compared with water group. It can be concluded that, retention and availability of vitamin C in feed was higher than those in water, and supplementation of VC during summer was beneficial for poultry.
