Four different oligosaccharides used to determine their effects on gelatinization and retrogradation of Backsulgies(BSG), Korean traditional rice cake, were cyclodextrin, isomaltooligosaccharide, fructooligosaccharide and maltotetrose, with 3 or 6%(w/w), based on the rice flour. From the Amylograph and blue value data, adding 6% cyclodextrin into the rice flour fastened the gelatinzation process, and delayed the retrogradation in stored BSG at 4$\^{C}$ for up to 3 days, probably due to its cyclic structure. Using rheometer, the hardness of freshly made BSG added with cyclodextrin was significantly lower than that of control BSG, and increased with storage time in all BSGs at refrigerated temperature. When using maltotetrose in rice flour, the hardness of BSG was also significantly low, but slightly higher than that of cyclodextrin. Hunter “L” value in BSG decreased with the addition of oligosaccharides, but the higher the level of oligosaccharide in BSG, the insignificant the Hunter “a”,“b” values of BSG. From the X-ray diffraction studies, the rice flour showed typical A pattern, and the crystallinities of all BSG gave amorphous V type. The highest peaks of X-ray patterns in BSG added with 6% cyclodextrin or maltotetrose were, however, lower than that of the control, meaning the less crystalline, retrograded starch in the former BSGs. Based on sensory evaluation, BSG added with all oligosacchrides were not significantly different in taste, flavor, chewiness, moistness and overall preferences, with slightly darker color with longer storage time, compared to the control BSG.
Mul-kimchi is more watery than traditional kimchi and is prepared using large amounts of salted water, Chinese cabbage, radishes, and carrots. The quality characteristics of Mul-kimchi prepared with Chaenomelis Fructus water extract (1, 3, or 5%, w/v) (CF Mul-kimchi) or water (control) were investigated during fermentation for 21 days at $10^{\circ}C$. The initial pH values were 6.53 (control), 4.14 (1% CF Mul-kimchi), 3.61 (3% CF Mul-kimchi), and 3.54 (5% CF Mul-kimchi). The pH did not change significantly in CF Mul-kimchi but gradually decreased in the control during fermentation. Changes in titratable acidity were reflected in pH movements. Viable lactic acid bacteria in CF Mul-kimchi were at lower levels than in the control. Viable bacterial levels in Mul-kimchi decreased with increasing concentration of CF water extract. Textural features, such as hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness, and springiness, were higher in CF Mul-kimchi than in control. Anti-oxidative activity, measured by DPPH radical scavenging and nitrite scavenging, of CF Mul-kimchi, were higher than in control, and the activities rose with increasing levels of CF water extract. The sensory qualities of 1% CF Mul-kimchi showed the highest values in taste and overall acceptability among the Mul-kimchi preparations tested.
The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of three types of Chestnut Meals (CM) on chemical composition and rumen fermentation characteristics of the fermented diet. The inoculants consisted of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus subtilis, and Sacaromyces cerevisiae and were applied to three different types of CM; Whole Chestnut (WC), endodermis (EN), and kernel (KE). All types of CMs were ensiled at $39^{\circ}C$ for 0, 1, 2, 4, or 6 days. After ensiling, the fermented CMs were sub-sampled for laboratory assays. On day six of fermentation, counts of the lactic acid-producing Bacillus subtilis, and yeast were higher (P<0.05) in WC than in the other CM types. On day four, KE had higher (P<0.05) crude protein content but lower (P<0.05) neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber contents than the other treatments. In terms of rumen digestibility, KE had the highest (P<0.05) in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDMD), neutral detergent fiber digestibility (IVNDFD), total volatile fatty acid (VFA), propionate, butyrate concentrations, and total gas volume, as well as the lowest (P<0.05) acetate concentration. On the other hand, EN had the highest (P<0.05) pH and ammonia-N concentration in the rumen. In the rumen, even though WC application produced the highest microbial count and fermentation characteristics, it did not have a beneficial effect on rumen digestibility. Therefore, this study concluded that application of KE could be recommended due to the observed improvements in IVDMD and IVNDFD.
$Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ (PZT) is used for the various piezoelectric devices owing to its high piezoelectric properties. However, lead (Pb), which is contained in PZT, causes various environment contaminations. $(K,Na)NbO_3$ (NKN) is the most well-known candidate for a lead-free composition to replace PZT. A single crystal has excellent piezoelectric-properties and its properties can be changed by changing the orientation direction. It is hard to fabricate a NKN single crystal due to the sodium and potassium. Thus, $(Na,K)NbO_3-Ba(Cu,Nb)O_3$ (NKN-BCuN) is chosen to fabricate the single crystal with relative ease. NKN-BCuN pellets consist of two parts, yellow single crystals and gray poly-crystals that contain copper. The area that has a large amount of copper particles may melt at low temperature but not the other areas. The liquid phase may be responsible for the abnormal grain growth in NKN-BCuN ceramics. The dielectric constant and tan ${\delta}$ are measured to be 684 and 0.036 at 1 kHz in NKN-BCuN, respectively. The coercive field and remnant polarization are 14 kV/cm and $20{\mu}C/cm^2$.

Objective: To identify the initial chest computed tomography (CT) findings and clinical characteristics associated with the course of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. Materials and Methods: Baseline CT scans and clinical and laboratory data of 72 patients admitted with COVID-19 pneumonia (39 men, 46.2 ± 15.9 years) were retrospectively analyzed. Baseline CT findings including lobar distribution, presence of ground glass opacities, consolidation, linear opacities, and lung severity score were evaluated. The outcome event was recovery with hospital discharge. The time from symptom onset to discharge or the end of follow-up (for those remained hospitalized) was recorded. Data were censored in events such as death or discharge without recovery. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression was used to explore the association between initial CT, clinical or laboratory findings, and discharge with recovery, whereby hazard ratio (HR) values < 1 indicated a lower rate of discharge at four weeks and longer time until discharge. Results: Thirty-two patients recovered and were discharged during the study period with a median length of admission of 16 days (range, 9 to 25 days), while the rest remained hospitalized at the end of this study (median, 17.5 days; range, 4 to 27 days). None died during the study period. After controlling for age, onset time, lesion characteristics, number of lung lobes affected, and bilateral involvement, the lung severity score on baseline CT (> 4 vs. ≤ 4 [reference]: adjusted HR = 0.41 [95% confidence interval, CI = 0.18-0.92], p = 0.031) and initial lymphocyte count (reduced vs. normal or elevated [reference]: adjusted HR = 0.14 [95% CI = 0.03-0.60], p = 0.008) were two significant independent factors that influenced recovery and discharge. Conclusion: Lung severity score > 4 and reduced lymphocyte count at initial evaluation were independently associated with a significantly lower rate of recovery and discharge and extended hospitalization in patients admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia.
A practical study on a drying and fermentation system equipped with a stirring machine operated mechanically, of pig manure was conducted to prove the efficiency of and practicability to an ordinary pig farm. The type of the drying bed was a round-shaped (r=3m) concrete structure and the stirring machine was adopted to stir and transfer dried pig manure to the fermentation tank. The dried pig manure was put into a fermentation tank ($V=18m^3$), which was aerated from pipe lines installed at the bottom. While water content of pig manure passing through a drying bed was remarkably reduced than before drying, the drying efficiency of this system decreased in winter. However, the temperature of pig manure piled up in the fermentation room in winter reached over $60^{\circ}C$ and excess water of pig manure was removed during the fermentation process. The reduction rate of water content of pig manure, to which dried pig manure was added as bulking material on the drying bed, was 52.1%, but when dried without bulking material it was only 19.7%. Although the content of $P_2O_5$ of dried pig manure was slightly higher than that of fresh pig manure, progressive changes in chemical composition between fresh and dried pig manure made no great difference. Among the contents of minerals of fresh and dried pig manure, CaO was the highest and the rest were in the decreasing order of $K_2O$, MgO, and $Na_2O$. Population density of E. coli and Streptococci of dried pig manure was reduced by 142 and 236 times that of fresh pig manure, respectively. The installation cost of this drying and fermentation system was 4,185,630 won (approximately 5,232 US $) and operating cost per year was 190,000 won (237.5US $) on the basis of self-labor condition.

BACKGROUND: Pesticide residue analysis is essentially required for safety evaluation of agricultural products. Bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole have been currently considered as potentials to deeply evaluate their residues in agricultural products because they are frequently found in strawberry. This work was performed to investigate the residual patterns of bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole in strawberry after harvest. METHODS AND RESULTS: Strawberry was treated with bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days before harvest under greenhouse conditions. The strawberry samples were subjected to solvent and solid phase extractions followed by LC-MS/MS analysis. There covery percentages of bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole for tified in the control samples ranged from approximately 82 to 103% with the method limit of 0.005 mg/kg. The concentrations of bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole in strawberry samples decreased significantly in 10 days after treatment, giving the safety levels of 0.04 to 0.06 mg/kg at 10 days after application, as considered maximum residue limit. The half-lives of bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole based on first order kinetics were determined to 6.3 days and 6.4 days, respectively. CONCLUSION: Bistrifluron and chlorantraniliprole are suggested to use in strawberry 10 days before harvest to reach residual safety levels.
In recent, a digital x-ray detector attracted worldwide attention and there are many studies to commercialize. There are two methods in digital x-ray detector. This method is an Indirect method and Direct method. This study is to see the differences between the digital x-ray detector based on a-Se used in the existing indirect conversion method and an x-ray conversion material that has better SNR(Signal-to-noise ratio) and property than the a-Se. To solve the problem that is difficult to make a large area film using Screen-Print method, we used a Screen-Print method. In this study, we used a polyclystal $HgI_2$ as x-ray conversion material and a sample thickness is $150{\mu}m$ and an area is $3cm{\times}3cm$. ITO(Indium-Tin-Oxide) electrode was used as top electrode using a Magnetron Sputtering System and each area is $3cm{\times}3cm$, $2cm{\times}2cm$ and $1cm{\times}1cm$ and then we evaluated darkcurrent, sensitivity and SNR of the $HgI_2$ film are measured, then we evaluated the electrical properties. And we used a current integration mode when I-V test. This experiment shows that the sensitivity increases in accordance with the area of the electrode but the SNR is decreased because of the high darkcurrent. Through fabricating of various thicknesses and optimal electrodes, we will optimize SNR in the future work.
In order to investigate the classification and antibiotic resistance of Salmonella species,718 isolates were isolated from patient in Seoul from 1996 to 2001. The two hundred and ninety eight isolates (41.5%) were identified as Sal. Enteritidis, followed by Sal. Typhi 218 isolates (30.4%), and Sal. Typhimurium 87 isolates (12.1%). The identified Salmonella species were most resistant to tetracycline (32.7%), followed by streptomycin (28.0%), ticarcillin (18.1%) and ampicillin (12.4%). Among isolates,34.7% of Sal. Enteritidis were resistant to tetracycline, 32.3% to streptomycin,23.2% to ticarcillin,13.5% to ampicillin, respectively. 13.8% of Sal. Typhi were resistant to streptomycin,10.6% to tetracycline, respectively.66.7% of Sal. Typhimurium were resistant to tetracycline, 42.5% to streptomycin, 28.7% to ticarcillin, 26.4% to ampicillin and 17.2% to chloramphenicol, respectively. Of 718 isolates, 324 isolates (45.1%) were resistant to 1 or more drugs and 64 isolates (19.8%) were resistant to 1 drug, 132 isolates (40.7%) were resistant to 2 drugs,50 isolates (15.4%) were resistant to 3 drugs, 27 isolates (8.3%) to 4 drugs,27 isolates (8.3%) to 5 drugs,22 Isolates (6.8%) to 6 drugs. The most prevalent multiple resistant pattern was tetracycline-kanamycin (35.5%), followed by tetracycline-kanamycin-ticarcillin (8.3%), and tetracycline-kanamycin-ticarcillin-ampicillin (7.4%) . Antibiotic resistant rate of Sal. Typhimurium was 73.6%,1311owe4 by Sal. Enteritidis 53.7% and Sal. Typhi 19.3%. Most Sal. Enteritidis was resistant to 1 drug o.2 drugs, whereas Sal. Typhi. and Sal.. Typhunurium were more .resistant to 5 (16.7%) or 6 drugs (26.6%). The old generation antibiotics such as ampicillin, tetracycline, and streptomycin were annually more resistant than the new generation antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin or cefoxitin.

It is known that onions, or bioactive compounds therein, providehealth benefits. The present study was designed to investigate whether a concentrated onion extract lowered blood lipid levels in rats fed a high-fat diet. Initially, male Sprague-Dawley rats were housed singly in an environment in which temperature and light duration were controlled, and had free access to a nutritionally adequate AIN-93G diet and deionized water. After an acclimatization period, rats were weight-matched and assigned to one of the following five groups: 1) a control group, fed the AIN-93G diet mixed with 10% (w/v) lard and 0.7% (w/v) cholesterol to induce hyperlipidemia (control); 2) three experimental groups, fed the AIN-93G diet mixed with a high-fat source plus concentrated onion extract at three different levels (termed the low-dose, medium-dose, and high-dose groups); and, 3) a placebo group, fed the AIN-93G diet with fats plus the same concentrated extract but devoid of onion-derived material. All five groups freely ingested their respective diets over 6 weeks. At 0, 3, and 6 weeks, blood samples were collected from the orbital sinus following overnight food deprivation. At 6 weeks, livers were collected. Both control and experimental groups continually gained body weight throughout the study. No significant differencein body weight gain was observed among groups. However, the serum concentrations of triglycerides, total cholesterol, and non HDL-cholesterol were significantly reduced by ingestion of concentrated onion extract. Also, the hepatic levels of total lipids and total fatty acids, especially C18:1 (oleic acid), were significantly decreased in rats fed a high level of concentrated onion extract, compared with the control and placebo groups. These results provide clear evidence that ingestion of a concentrated onion extract has a profound inhibitory effect on serum lipid levels in rats fed a high-fat diet. Our findings indicate that a concentrated onion extract may be used to alleviate hyperlipidemia by lowering serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
