There-Phase Voltage-Source Soft-Switching Inverter with Auxiliary High Frequency Transformer Linked Power Regeneration Resonant Snubbers

  • In this paper, a prototype of the auxiliary resonant commutated snubber circuit(ARCS) with a high frequency transformer power regeneration loop is described for voltage source type sinewave inverter system. This is a new soft switching topology developed for three phase voltage source soft-switching inverter, active power filter and reactive power compensator has significant advantage of current rating reduction for auxiliary active switching devices. In addition, this paper presents a novel prototype of voltage-source soft switching space vector-modulated inverter with ARCS mentioned above, which is more suitable and acceptable for high-power utility interactive power conditioning, along with a digital control scheme. The steady-state operating analysis of ARCS has the remarkable features and the practical design procedure of this resonant snubber are illustrated on the basis of computer simulation analysis. The operating performance evaluations in the steady-state of this three phase voltage source soft switching inverter are discussed and compared with the three phase voltage source hard switching inverter.

  • It is expected that utility interactive small scale dispersed PV system will be widely diffused in the future. This paper discussed the design and control method of single phase PV inverter system with compensation capability of reactive power including harmonic distortion, based on state space modelling. As the results, compensation effects were suggested by simulation and experiment.

  • 최근 분산발전시스템에서 계통에 전압이상이 발생하더라도 일정시간 계통과 연결해야 하는 FRT 기능이 요구되고 있다. 그러나 인버터에 독립부하가 존재하는 경우, 계통의 이상전압 이 독립부하에 그대로 걸리게 되는 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 계통이상시에도 FRT 기능을 준수함과 동시에 독립부하에도 일정한 품질의 전압을 공급할 수 있는 전압보상 기법을 제안한다.

  • Through simulations and field experiment on A.C. parallel operation of both Utility Interactive Photovoltaic System and Diesel Engine Revolving Field Type Synchronous Generator, following factors have been found. First, the inverter should be operated in three modes of frequency(mode.1: ${\pm}$0.3Hz, mode.2: ${\pm}$1Hz, mode.3: ${\pm}$2Hz) as default, considering properties of operating Synchronous Generator. Second, as a result of supplying 13.5kW of residual power, it has been found that Synchronous Generator takes the power input only as reactive power, because it was electrically stable with frequency of 60.14Hz and high voltage of 222.3V even when power factor was -0.94. Besides, it was mechanically stable, too, because the quake, noise, and temperature of Synchronous Generator in this case were 7.5mm/s, 97dB, and $6^{\circ}C$ respectively, which were lower than normal load connection of 145.6kW; 11.03mm/s. Thus, load share of Revolving Field Type Synchronous Generator reduces according to the supply of Photovoltaic System to the load power. In this experiment, 200kW of Synchronous Generator and 40kW of Photovoltaic System were operated in parallel. The load share was 20% in maximum. and 11.1lit/hr of fuel was saved.

  • Recently, the study of islanding phenomenon, maintains its operation even when the utility grid is removed has lead to the trend of utility interactive inverters in photovoltaic generation systems. In this paper, a novel Anti-islanding method is presented. the proposed method can keep the real average power component constant by MPPT control and cause the load current frequency with only change of reactive power component under the islanding condition. its periodical change of Reactive power component can decrease the NDZ(Non-Detective zone) so that the detection of various loads will be possible. the insufficient effect if additional reactive power component to the grid is proved theoretically and the islanding detection is also confirmed from a experimental result with a inverter for 3kW photovoltaic generation system applied the proposed Anti-islanding method.

  • With significant development of power electronics technology, the proliferation of nonlinear loads such as static power converters has deteriorated power quality in power transmission and distribution systems. Notably, voltage harmonics resulting from current harmonics produced by the nonlinear loads have become a serious problem in many countries. Many photovoltaic power generation systems installed in building systems have harmonics that are the worst object for distribution systems as a utility interactive system, and it tends to spread out continuously. Proposed and implemented in this paper is a multi-function inverter control strategy that allows a shunt active filter function to the power inverter of the photovoltaic power generation system established on a building system. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated through the simulation of a hypothetical power system using PSCAD/EMTDC.

There are already a lot of PV power generation systems installed in building systems whose harmonics are the worst object for distribution systems as a utility interactive system and also it tends to spread out continuously. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated through the simulation of hypothetical power system using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • Distributed generation (DG) systems fall in islanding operation when they still in operation even when the main grid is out of electric power Islanding operation is further classified into intentional islanding and unintentional islanding operations. In intentional islanding operation, the DG backs up critical loads while it separates from the main grid on islanding detection. Intentional islanding operation increases utilization of the DG system during the islanding operation. This paper proposes reasonal inverter topology and its control algorithm for seamless transfer of DG systems in intentional islanding operation.

A Simple Resonant DC Link Snubber-Assisted Bi-directional Three-phase PWM Converter for Battery Energy Storage Systems

  • In this paper, a prototype of an active auxiliary quasi-resonant DC link (QRDCL) snubber assisted voltage source bidirectional power converter (AC to DC and DC to AC) operating at zero voltage soft-switching (BVS) PWM nlode is presented for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The operating principle of this QRDCL circuit and multifunctional control-based converter system, including PWM inverter mode in which energy flows from the battery bank to the three-phase utility-grid in addition to an active PWM converter mode in which energy flows from the utility-grid to the battery banks are described respectively by the control implementation on the basis of d-q coordinate plane transformation. The multifunctional operation characteristics of this three-phase ZVS PWM bi-directional converter with QRDCL is demonstrated fer a BESS under the power conditioning and processing schemes of energy supply mode and energy storage mode, and compared with a conventional three-phase hard switching PWM bi-directional converter for a BESS. The effectiveness of the three-phase ZVS PWM hi-directional converter with QRDCL is proven via the simulation analysis.
