Utility scale solar power development in Nepal

  • Nepal is among the richest in terms of water resource availability and it is one of the most important natural resources of the country. Currently, 72% of the population is electrified through the national grid system. The power generation mix into the grid is hydro dominated with minor shares generated from solar and thermal (accounts for less than 1%). To achieve sustainable development in the power sector it is essential to diversify power generation mix into the grid. Knowing the facts, the government has a plan to achieve a 5-10% share of power generation from solar and mix it into the grid system. Solar is the second most abundant, prominent and free source of renewable in the context of Nepal. This study mainly focuses on the grid-connected solar system, its importance, present status, government efforts, and its need. It is based on the review of literature, news published in national newspaper online news and international organization's report.

  • This paper summarizes the results of these efforts by offering a photovoltaic system structure in 50kW middle scale applications installed in Cho-sun University dormitory roof. The combination of photovoltaic system components are interconnected and system monitoring system will be summarized for the purpose of the increasing safety in this article. This paper describes configuration of utility interactive photovoltaic system which generated electric power supplies to dormitory. In order to installing the middle or large scale photovoltaic system, It must investigated the optimal design of system, compute quantity of power generation, economic rate of return and so on. In this paper represent 50kW utility photovoltaic system examination and developed simulation results. The performance of photovoltaic system has been evaluated and analyzed with simulation. The results obtained in this research will be much useful to prior investigation for installing utility interactive photovoltaic system.

  • 최근 태양전지, 연료전지를 이용한 새로운 발전시스템이 개발중에 있다. 특히 소규모 분산형 계통연계 태양광발전시스템은 가까운 장래에 폭 넓게 보급될것으로 예상된다. 태양전지 어레이를 계통선과 결합하는데 사용되는 인버터는 전체 태양광발전시스템의 성능을 결정하는 중요한 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 고조파를 포함한 무효전력 보상능력을 갖는 단상 태양광 인버터 시스템의 설계 및 제어기법을 제시하였다. 제안된 인버터 시스템에 의해 정류기 부하에 의해 발생된 무효전력이 보상될 수 있음을 실험결과로 보여준다.

  • A photovoltaic panel is a device that, through the photovoltaic effect, converts luminous energy into electric energy. Photovoltaic generation system uses infinity of solar energy, cost of fuel is needless and there is no all pollution or waste occurrence.   • In a recently as renewable energy source photovoltaic(PV) system using solar energy has been very widely researched because of its pollution-free and infinity. Especially many researches are intensively focused on small scale utility interactive PV system which can use dead space and easily make power stabilized from unstable natural energy source. In this system one of the most important matters is islanding protection. Islanding phenomenon appears when power failure occurs. For the safety of utility interactive PV system must has the function of not only system protection but also detection of islanding. This paper describes parallel operating alghorithm using reactive power variation method and twin peak band pass filter. This alghorithm is verified useful by simulation.

  • In general, a single-phase current-fed PWM inverter using IGBTs has some unique advantages for small scale distributed utility-interactive power supply system as compared with voltage-fed PWM inverter. In particular, this is more suitable and acceptable for a non-isolated type utility-interactive power conditioner, which is going to be widely used for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system in Japan. However, this current-fed PWM inverter has a significant disadvantage. The output current of this inverter includes large harmonic contents when the inductance of smoothing reactor in its DC side is not large enough to eliminate its current ripple components of this inverter. In order to overcome this problem, a new conceptual pulse area modulation scheme for this inverter is introduced in difference with conventional PWM strategy. This paper presents a new effective control implementation of this PV power conditioner which is able to reduce the harmonic component in the output current produced by the single-phase current-fed PWM inverter even when the ripple current in the smoothing DC reactor is relatively large. The operating principle of the proposed control strategy introdued for this inverter system is described, and its simulation results are evaluated and discussed herein.
