  • measuring surface area errors can be brought about with different measuring people. This study aims at eliminating such errors in measurement. With measures by 3 people whose experience varies from person to person, the existing area measuring method using a planimeter and two other methods which use a computer (one using a digitizer and the other using a scanner) have been analyzed and compared. Three methods have not shown a meaningful difference in respect to the value" of area and two methods other than the one using a scanner have shown a meaningful difference among 3 measuring people. Therefore, we propose the method using a scanner by image processing should be a more improved one for area measuring. The arguments for that are as fllows. 1. The operation for measurement is simple and it has a high degree of accuracy with few errors. 2. Because different measuring people cause few errors the operation started by one person can be handed over to anyone else and the operation dosen't require previous skill. 3. Once image file is saved, the operation can be performed on several computers at the same time with seperate part on each computer. 4. Three methods have needed nearly the same length of time, but time for the method using a scanner can be reduced on computers with a higher capacity.th a higher capacity.

  • It was investigated that two rods of aluminium can be welded by hot extru-pressure welding method with stepped welding dies, and that the welding pressure on the welding surface were analyzed by computer simulation according to the stepped shapes of welding dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding pressure on the welding section of rods welded using stepped welding dies without eccentricity is lowerer than the welding pressure of rods welded using stepped welding dies with eccentricity of welding surface, and that the welding pressure on the welding section of rods using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies is higher than the welding pressure of rods using stepped welding dies without eccentricity. And it was known by experiments that two rods of aluminium can be welded on the end sections by hot pressure welding method using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies without relative rotational movement of contacted aluminium rods needed for the purpose of friction heating and pressure.

  • It is not easy to monitor and identify all engine faults and conditions using conventional fault detection approaches like the GPA (Gas Path Analysis) method due to the nature and complexity of the faults. This study therefore focuses on a model based diagnostic method using Neural Network algorithms proposed for fault detection on a turbo shaft engine (PW 206C) selected as the power plant for a tilt rotor type unmanned aerial vehicle (Smart UAV). The model based diagnosis should be performed by a precise performance model. However component maps for the performance model were not provided by the engine manufacturer. Therefore they were generated by a new component map generation method, namely hybrid method using system identification and genetic algorithms that identifies inversely component characteristics from limited performance deck data provided by the engine manufacturer. Performance simulations at different operating conditions were performed on the PW206C turbo shaft engine using SIMULINK. In order to train the proposed BPNN (Back Propagation Neural Network), performance data sets obtained from performance analysis results using various implanted component degradations were used. The trained NN system could reasonably detect the faulted components including the fault pattern and quantity of the study engine at various operating conditions.

  • In this paper, we suggest that how to improve an accuracy of mobile robot's localization by using the sensor network information which fuses the machine vision camera, encoder and IMU sensor. The heading value of IMU sensor is measured using terrestrial magnetism sensor which is based on magnetic field. However, this sensor is constantly affected by its surrounding environment. So, we isolated template of ceiling using vision camera to increase the sensor's accuracy when we use IMU sensor; we measured the angles by pattern matching algorithm; and to calibrate IMU sensor, we compared the obtained values with IMU sensor values and the offset value. The values that were used to obtain information on the robot's position which were of Encoder, IMU sensor, angle sensor of vision camera are transferred to the Host PC by wireless network. Then, the Host PC estimates the location of robot using all these values. As a result, we were able to get more accurate information on estimated positions than when using IMU sensor calibration solely.

  • Although smartwatches are different from smartphones in shape and carried method, they are also highly relevant to smartphones and have similar characteristics. This paper studied the impact of using smartphones on the intention to use smartwatches from the perspective of brand extension. The hypotheses were that the major factors of the attitude formed in the process of using smartphones affect the intention of using them and affect the trust of smartwatches. As a result of testing the hypotheses, trust in smartphonees affected trust in smartwatches. And the intention to use smartphones and the trust of smartwatches affected the intention to use smartwatches. However, the satisfaction, familiarity, and favorability of smartphones did not affect the trust of smartwatches. Smartwatches were associated with smartphones but they had independent characters. Based on the results of the study, the trust of smartwatches is very important, so the corporate managers need to find ways to improve their trust. And they should find strategies to improve the value of the product by finding out the factors that can increase the intention of using smartwatches.

  • Evaluating the impurity concentrations in semiconductor thin films using time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) is an effective technique. The mass interference between isotopes and matrix element in data interpretation makes the process complex. In this study, we have investigated the doping concentration of phosphorus in, phosphorus doped silicon thin film on glass using ToF-SIMS in the dynamic mode of operation. To overcome the mass interference between phosphorus and silicon isotopes, the quantitative analysis of counts to concentration conversion was done following two routes, standard relative sensitivity factor (RSF) and SIMetric software estimation. Phosphorus doped silicon thin film of 180 nm was grown on glass substrate using hot wire chemical vapor deposition technique for possible applications in optoelectronic devices. Using ToF-SIMS, the phosphorus-31 isotopes were detected in the range of 101~104 counts. The silicon isotopes matrix element was measured from p-type silicon wafer from a separate measurement to avoid mass interference. For the both procedures, the phosphorus concentration versus depth profiles were plotted which agree with a percent difference of about 3% at 100 nm depth. The concentration of phosphorus in silicon was determined in the range of 1019~1021 atoms/cm3. The technique will be useful for estimating distributions of various dopants in the silicon thin film grown on glass using ToF-SIMS overcoming the mass interference between isotopes.

  • Objectives: While older adults using community care services are known to be vulnerable for depression, community care utilization (CCU) may help to improve the mental health of these elderly. To date, however, it is much less clear how CCU affects depressive symptoms in the elderly population. This study focuses on the trajectory of depressive symptoms across years of CCU among older adults in Korea. Methods: Using the 2006-2019 Korean Welfare Panel Survey, this study is focused on elderly born in 1940 or earlier and selected 3281 persons for baseline interviews in 2006. This consisted of 35 800 person-year observations during a period of 14 years. Panel data analysis were employed to construct years of CCU. Results: After controlling for covariates, linear term of years using community care was negatively associated with depressive symptoms, but a quadratic term was positively significant. The trajectory of depressive symptoms across the years of CCU follows a U-shaped curve. Older adults in the first year of using community care reported the highest level of depressive symptoms. However, a significant and steady decrease in depressive symptoms was observed during the following 9 years of CCU, which then gradually increased. The level of depressive symptoms at the 14th year of using community care remains significantly lower than the level at the outset of its utilization. Conclusions: This finding implies that CCU could be beneficial for improving mental health among older adults.
