Information needs of users have been examined both generally and as they pertain to particular types and formats of information. Barriers to information have also been investigated, including those which are situational and also across certain domains and socioeconomic contexts. Unified studies concerning both information needs and barriers are needed. Both are likely always present in any given interactive search situation; further, users' attempts to satisfy their own individualized information needs will likely encounter barriers of some sort. The present study employed a survey method to collect users' perceptions of video information needs and barriers as part of recent video search situations. Findings from this analysis establish a unified framework, based on the themes emerging directly from the responses of users, and present the suitability and benefit for informing future designs and evaluations of user-centered interactive retrieval tools.

본 연구의 목적은 대도시와 지방도시 기계경비시스템 이용자의 안전욕구충족과 생활만족에 대한 차이를 비교분석하는데 있다. 이 연구는 대도시(서울)와 지방도시(천안 아산)를 모집단으로 선정한 다음 유의 표집법을 이용하여 총 400명을 표집 하였다. 구체적으로 각 지역에서 은행 귀금속점 편의점 통신업체등의 4개 영업점을 대상으로 2차 분할하여 실시하였으며, 1차는 2008년 6월 서울 소재 기계경비시스템 이용자들을 한강기준으로 강동, 강서, 강남, 강북, 도심권 등의 5개 지역으로 분할하여 각 지역에 1개동을 추출 40명씩 총 200부를 표집 하였다. 2차는 2009년 1월 천안 아산 소재 기계경비시스템 이용자들을 대상으로 4개 지역에서 50명씩 200명을 표집 하였다. 설문지의 신뢰도는 Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ 값이 .812이상으로 나타났다. 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 도시크기에 따른 기계경비시스템 이용자들의 신체적 안전욕구충족은 차이가 있다. 즉, 대도시 이용자가 지방도시 이용자보다 환경적, 심리적, 정보적 안전욕구충족은 높다. 둘째, 도시크기에 따른 기계경비시스템 이용자들의 생활만족은 차이가 있다. 즉, 대도시 이용자가 지방도시 이용자보다 안전생활 만족은 높다. 셋째, 도시크기에 따른 기계경비시스템 이용자의 안전욕구충족은 생활만족에 영향을 미친다. 즉, 대도시 이용자들의 경우 신체적, 환경적, 정보적, 물리적 안전욕구충족이 높을수록 생활만족은 높다.

Without an accurate understanding of information needs of library users, an efficient services can't be implement. And we can expect that there is a difference between query statement and actual information needs of users. It also will occur difference in the process of librarian's interpretation of query statement because of an inaccurate presentation and their different working experiences. It means that there is a communication problems between users and librarians. The purpose of this study is to provide the techniques of face to face communication between users and librarians as a method of efficient library service activities. And focused on the importance of non-language communication. The effectiveness of this study are as follows: 1. With the understanding of information flow, librarians can expand the extent of library services. 2. Knowing that how to communicate with users at the a n.0, ppropriate degree, librarians can improve the communication techniques. 3. Expanding the satisfaction of information services and heitening the reliability of users. 4. From the analysis of user information needs, librarians can convert present system to the proper service-oriented system. 5. Knowing the importance of non-language communication, librarians can improve the service environment.

학술정보 서비스 이용자를 학부생과 대학원생으로 구분하여 각각 정보요구와 정보이용 행태가 어떤지에 대해 심층적으로 분석하고 그 차이를 통해서 학술정보 서비스 대학 이용자의 보다 세분화된 정보요구를 규명하고자 하였다. 연구를 위해 K대학교와 S대학교 소속 총 20명의 피실험자를 대상으로 면담을 실시하였으며, 그 결과 학부생과 대학원생 이용자의 정보 요구와 정보이용행태가 다른 경향이 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 학부생(30%)의 경우에 대학원생(90%)에 비해 정보 만족도가 매우 낮았으며, 필요정보의 형태도 다양하게 분산되어 있다. 또한 학부생의 정보만족도는 낮은 반면 정보활용에 대한 태도는 비교적 적극적인 경향을 보이는 것으로 파악되어서 향후 학부생 대상의 정보 서비스를 더욱 고려할 필요가 있다는 점도 고려사항으로 도출되었다.

Unlike other educational spaces in school facilities, restrooms have remained unpleasant spaces without reflecting the change in social awareness and students' lifestyle. In the process of the 'School Restroom Environment Remodeling Project in Seoul' by means of "user participatory design method", this study aimed to suggest a design of the school restroom environment responding to the different needs of actual users, who are students and school staffs. By surveying them, it was revealed that they have a variety of respective behavioral patterns and spatial needs according to their status, gender, age and working period. Implications of this study are as follows; First, it is necessary to establish a separate restroom facility standards that respond to the characteristics of elementary school students. Second, there should be an expansive approach to widely accommodate with the users' needs that were found out through 'user participation', more than just repairing pre-existing space. Third, it needs to have critical review of the maintenance and operation system itself as well as the improvement of the school restroom environment.

지난 10년간 국내 도서관계에서는 도서관의 장애인서비스 관련 환경이 크게 개선되었다. 관련 법안이 마련되고, 시설과 설비가 확대되고, 관련 장서와 프로그램의 수가 증가하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 장애인의 도서관 이용 비율이 증가추세에 이르지 못하고 있다. 본 연구는 기존 연구를 분석하여 장애유형별 이용 요구를 분석하였으며, 이용자 면담과 전문가 델파이 연구를 통해 이용자들의 도서관 서비스에 대한 핵심요구를 파악하였다. 이용자들은 자원의 양적 확대와 함께 질적 확대, 개별화된 서비스와 프로그램 제공, 시설 편의성 증대, 웹과 어플리케이션의 접근성 향상, 전문적인 인력 배치 등을 요구하였다.

가상 교육을 받는 학생들의 정보 이용 형태와 선호도를 검토해 본 결과, 원거리 이용자들은 접근성과 이용의 편이성으로 인해 원문을 쉽게 획득할 수 있는 온라인 데이터베이스와 인터넷을 선호하나, 온라인 데이터베이스와 인터넷의 정보로는 만족하기 어려워, 불편을 감수하면서도 도서와 논문을 주 정보원으로 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 가상교육을 받는 원거리 이용자들의 86.7퍼센트가 전자도서관 서비스는 가상교육 프로그램을 선택하는데 중요한 고려대상이며 교수가 도서관 이용에 가장 많은 영향을 미친다고 응답하여 가상교육 프로그램과 전자도서관 정보서비스 체계의 파트너쉽의 필요성을 보여주었다. 마지막으로, 가상교육을 받는 학생들은 웹 페이지의 디자인보다는 정보의 근거와 정확성 그리고 내용의 적합성을 우선적으로 중요시하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 도서관은 많은 양질의 디지털화 된 정보를 확보하는 것이 무엇보다 우선되어야 할 것으로 보인다. 컴퓨터의 대중화가 이루어지고, 교육과 정보의 환경이 변화하고 있는 현 시점에서, 서비스의 질적 향상을 도모하고자 하였으며 앞으로 많은 연구들이 계속되어져야 할 것으로 믿는다.

The goal of this research is a visual and auditory tool development enabling designers to have the same emotional value with users in the process of user centered design. Through the research, we intend to show the aid measure for making cognitive gaps narrow between users and designer in the process of transforming and understanding the emotional needs as a verbal image. because In the business practice of design, most of tools and techniques for assessment and analysis of emotional needs are those used usually in the marketing fields. So the information generated and transformed from users to designers have a form of physical words. When the designer's understanding of the emotional needs is considered as a product mediated communication process, the morphologic and cognitive information gaps become obvious. This difference could be a false basis in designing with emotional user needs. So the alternative needs assessment sub-tools of visual and auditory information form was embodied mainly for designer's cognitive gaps and inter-cultural emotional needs assessment. As the method of embodiment, Firstly, adjectives related to emotion were classified in their cognitive dimension. Secondly, visual and auditory data were extracted, and then the relativity verified. Finally, the practicality and effectiveness were tested through the database generation. In view of the results so far achieved, 1. We could find being of the big information cognitive gaps in the verbal assessment of emotional needs between designers and users. 2. With the visual and auditory assessment tool, we could make the big cognitive gaps narrower than we expected. 3. Also, we could find the chance that the fidelity, recognition, and friendliness of design for emotional user needs would become better.

The user's needs for the American kitchen space were studied. Especially the remodelings and the desirable changes of the rural kitchen space were examined. Pilot study was carried out by the field survey. Questionnaire with 16 open-end items had been collested bt mail in Missouris, U.S. Based on the qualitative analysis of data for 104 houses. main characteristics of users' needs for the kitchen space can be summerized as follows : 1) The residents had changed or updated materials and facilities, and had enlarged storage space to equip more cabinets. Kitchen space had been adapted to new facilities and appliances. 2) The users still wanted to have larger kitchen space, more storage space and newer floor materials. Through this study it can be concluded that users needed kitchen space to be convenient and wide enough to work.

In this study, we developed an application that can efficiently store and manage food ingredients in refrigerators. Rather than purchasing a new smart refrigerator, a small 'pocket scanner' is inserted inside the refrigerator using an existing refrigerator to track the location of food entering and leaving the refrigerator to efficiently organize the refrigerator and save time searching for ingredients. In addition, since it can automatically record the distribution period and purchase date, it notifies users through an alarm when the distribution period expires or is shortly left. As for the research method, after discovering the needs of users through in-depth interviews, the reactions of users were investigated by adding functions that fit those needs. Users felt satisfied with managing food efficiently through the 'pocket scanner' attached to the refrigerator and answered that it was very economical because various smart functions could be used without changing to a smart refrigerator. In the next study, we will also examine the usability of the application through usability evaluation.
