  • In this paper, an OFDM-CDMA broadband system is considered for a possible candidate of fixed wireless broadband access network applications. With an emphasis on a preamble design for multi-channel separation, we address a channel estimation based on the time-domain windowing and its imperfectness in OFDM-based multiple-antenna transmission systems. By properly designing each preamble for multiple antennas to be orthogonal in the time domain, the channel estimation can be applied to the ETSI HlPERLAN/2 and IEEE-802.11a standards in the case of more than two transmit antennas. Also, an effect of diversity techniques on the performance of OFDM-CDMA based broadband wireless access networks is investigated and the maximum achievable diversity gain for a two-path Rayleigh fading environment is evaluated Simulation results show that the OFDM-CDMA system applying a space-time-frequency diversity with a full-rate full diversity code can give the diversity of D = 4 and D = 8 for both multi-user cases of maximum user and half user capacities, respectively.

  • Internet computing is a disruptive IT innovation. Semantic Web can be considered as an IT innovation because the Semantic Web technology possesses the potential to reduce information overload and enable semantic integration, using capabilities such as semantics and machine-processability. How should organizations adopt the Semantic Web? What factors affect the adoption and diffusion of Semantic Web innovation? Most studies on adoption and diffusion of innovation use empirical analysis as a quantitative research methodology in the post-implementation stage. There is criticism that the positivist requiring theoretical rigor can sacrifice relevance to practice. Rapid advances in technology require studies relevant to practice. In particular, it is realistically impossible to conduct quantitative approach for factors affecting adoption of the Semantic Web because the Semantic Web is in its infancy. However, in an early stage of introduction of the Semantic Web, it is necessary to give a model and some guidelines and for adoption and diffusion of the technology innovation to practitioners and researchers. Thus, the purpose of this study is to present a model of adoption and diffusion of the Semantic Web and to offer propositions as guidelines for successful adoption through a qualitative research method including multiple case studies and in-depth interviews. The researcher conducted interviews with 15 people based on face-to face and 2 interviews by telephone and e-mail to collect data to saturate the categories. Nine interviews including 2 telephone interviews were from nine user organizations adopting the technology innovation and the others were from three supply organizations. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The interviews were recorded on digital voice recorder memory and subsequently transcribed verbatim. 196 pages of transcripts were obtained from about 12 hours interviews. Triangulation of evidence was achieved by examining each organization website and various documents, such as brochures and white papers. The researcher read the transcripts several times and underlined core words, phrases, or sentences. Then, data analysis used the procedure of open coding, in which the researcher forms initial categories of information about the phenomenon being studied by segmenting information. QSR NVivo version 8.0 was used to categorize sentences including similar concepts. 47 categories derived from interview data were grouped into 21 categories from which six factors were named. Five factors affecting adoption of the Semantic Web were identified. The first factor is demand pull including requirements for improving search and integration services of the existing systems and for creating new services. Second, environmental conduciveness, reference models, uncertainty, technology maturity, potential business value, government sponsorship programs, promising prospects for technology demand, complexity and trialability affect the adoption of the Semantic Web from the perspective of technology push. Third, absorptive capacity is an important role of the adoption. Fourth, suppler's competence includes communication with and training for users, and absorptive capacity of supply organization. Fifth, over-expectance which results in the gap between user's expectation level and perceived benefits has a negative impact on the adoption of the Semantic Web. Finally, the factor including critical mass of ontology, budget. visible effects is identified as a determinant affecting routinization and infusion. The researcher suggested a model of adoption and diffusion of the Semantic Web, representing relationships between six factors and adoption/diffusion as dependent variables. Six propositions are derived from the adoption/diffusion model to offer some guidelines to practitioners and a research model to further studies. Proposition 1 : Demand pull has an influence on the adoption of the Semantic Web. Proposition 1-1 : The stronger the degree of requirements for improving existing services, the more successfully the Semantic Web is adopted. Proposition 1-2 : The stronger the degree of requirements for new services, the more successfully the Semantic Web is adopted. Proposition 2 : Technology push has an influence on the adoption of the Semantic Web. Proposition 2-1 : From the perceptive of user organizations, the technology push forces such as environmental conduciveness, reference models, potential business value, and government sponsorship programs have a positive impact on the adoption of the Semantic Web while uncertainty and lower technology maturity have a negative impact on its adoption. Proposition 2-2 : From the perceptive of suppliers, the technology push forces such as environmental conduciveness, reference models, potential business value, government sponsorship programs, and promising prospects for technology demand have a positive impact on the adoption of the Semantic Web while uncertainty, lower technology maturity, complexity and lower trialability have a negative impact on its adoption. Proposition 3 : The absorptive capacities such as organizational formal support systems, officer's or manager's competency analyzing technology characteristics, their passion or willingness, and top management support are positively associated with successful adoption of the Semantic Web innovation from the perceptive of user organizations. Proposition 4 : Supplier's competence has a positive impact on the absorptive capacities of user organizations and technology push forces. Proposition 5 : The greater the gap of expectation between users and suppliers, the later the Semantic Web is adopted. Proposition 6 : The post-adoption activities such as budget allocation, reaching critical mass, and sharing ontology to offer sustainable services are positively associated with successful routinization and infusion of the Semantic Web innovation from the perceptive of user organizations.

  • In this paper, the reverse-link performance of synchronous DS-CDMA cellular networks is investigated in Rician multipath fading environments. The system's performance is evaluated in terms of the achievable average bit error rate BER) and the user capacities of two different network layouts, namely those of a uniform grid of hexagonal multiple cells and a single isolated cell. In the multiple-cell scenario, the impact of the other cells' interference on the attainable capacity of the synchronous DS-CDMA uplink is investigated. Upon comparing both networks to a conventional asynchronous CDMA system, we demonstrate an achievable user capacity gain of $25\%$ to $56\%$ for synchronous uplink transmissions over that of the corresponding asynchronous transmission scenario at BER = $10^{-3}$.

  • Computing environment in these days aim for user-oriented development called RIA (Rich Internet Application). As a representative development method of RIA, Flex Framework overcomes the weaknesses of the Mainframe and C/S (Client/Server). However, the issues, such as, difficulties in memory management, complexity of the binding structure and large capacities of the compile outputs are left to be solved. The purpose of this paper is to implement the framework which enables the fast and accurate development of user-oriented web application on the Flex platform. DDX (Dynamic Data eXchange) framework proposes standardized and efficient development environment in a Flex platform. And by using scalability-prepared library that is applicable for various job areas, the framework enhances the performance, increase development productivity and help construct stable system.

  • The conventional studies on equilibrium network design problem(ENDP) with fixed travel demand models assume that the future OD travel demand might not be changed even if the structure and the capacity of the network are improved. But this fixed demand assumption may loose its validity in the long-range network design because OD travel demand actually shifts with the network service level. Thus, it is desirable to involve the variable travel demand which is determined endogenously in the model in the optimal network design. In this paper a hi-level model formulation and solution procedure for ENDP with variable travel demand are presented. Firstly It is considered how to measure the net user benefits to be derived from the improved in link capacities, and the equilibrium network design problem considered here is to maximize the increase of net user benefit which results from a set of lift capacity enhancements within the budget constraints, while the OD travel demands and link travel times are obtained by solving the lower level network equilibrium problem with variable demand. And secondly sensitivity analysis is carried out to find the links to which the network equilibrium flow pattern is the most sensitive. Finally numerical example with simple network is carried out to test the validity of the model.

  • When a company provides new games or games with a small number of users, it is convenient to provide the game service in which those games are placed in a server cluster instead of a separate server for an individual game. This paper proposes a method for placing games in a cluster of servers with the same capacities. The method reduces the load imbalance among servers and minimizes the rejection ratio of user requests. We expect that the proposed method is useful for determining the server operation factors such as the number of servers, the number of games for a server, etc. To our survey, little research has been published on game placement on a cluster of game servers.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) is a promising technique, which can provide high downlink capacity for the future wireless systems. The total capacity of OFDMA can be maximized by adaptively assigning subchannels to the user with the best gain for that subchannel, with power subsequently distributed by water-filling. In this paper, we propose the use of composite differential evolution (CoDE) algorithm to allocate the subchannels. The CoDE algorithm is population-based where a set of potential solutions evolves to approach a near-optimal solution for the problem under study. CoDE uses three trial vector generation strategies and three control parameter settings. It randomly combines them to generate trial vectors. In CoDE, three trial vectors are generated for each target vector unlike other differential evolution (DE) techniques where only a single trial vector is generated. Then the best one enters the next generation if it is better than its target vector. It is shown that the proposed method obtains higher sum capacities as compared to that obtained by previous works, with comparable computational complexity.

  • With the rapid development of smart devices and mobile Internet, the video application plays an increasingly important role on mobile devices. Understanding user behavior patterns is critical for optimized operation of mobile live streaming systems. On the other hand, volume based billing models on cloud services make it easier for video service providers to scale their services as well as to reduce the waste from oversized service capacities. In this paper, the watching behaviors of a commercial mobile live streaming system are studied in a content-centric manner. Our analysis captures the intrinsic correlation existing between popularity and watching intensity of programs due to the synchronized watching behaviors with program schedule. The watching pattern is further used to estimate traffic volume generated by the program, which is useful on data volume capacity reservation and billing strategy selection in cloud services. The traffic range of programs is estimated based on a naive popularity prediction. In cross validation, the traffic ranges of around 94% of programs are successfully estimated. In high popularity programs (>20000 viewers), the overestimated traffic is less than 15% of real happened traffic when using upper bound to estimate program traffic.

  • HEV(Hybrid Electrical Vehicle) is considered as one of the next generation vehicles. To develop the HEV, there must be a reliable simulator, by which the capacities of the power resources are tested, and the parameters of the HEV are optimized before developing the real model of the HEVs. This process can save the money for designing the HEV system and improve the system without experiments. Matlab Simulink is familiar to mechanical engineers and the program can simultaneously provide a system model and a controller in one program. Nowadays, the Simdriveline toolbox which is used for analysis a power-train system is applied to build a dynamic model for a HEV system. In this study, we make a HEV simulator with the Simdriveline toolbox and develop a controller. There are two simple strategies, applied to the controller. One strategy includes a power split ratio and a shift map which are created by user. Other strategy calculated an appropriate amount of resource's torque along specific results, and this is useful when users can't develop a fitting controller. The methodologies for configuring the simulator and its control system are presented in this paper.

  • Cognitive radio communication techniques have been attracting attention to efficiently use the scarce spectrum as the wireless communication service increases. In cognitive radio communication, efforts to minimize interference to the primary user are important technical factors. In a multi-hop wireless ad hoc network, multi-hop transmission requires path and channel selection considering channel interference as well as collision with primary users. In the multi-channel environment, cognitive radio network has different capacities depending on the inter-channel interference and collision with the main users. In this paper, we propose a multi-hop transmission scheme that minimizes inter-channel interference and reduce collision with primary users.
