Performance Evaluation of Web-based Cloud Services in a Browser-Scripting Approach

  • Cloud services are often provisioned to their customers using user-friendly web browsers with flexible and rich plug-in environments. Delay is one of the fundamental performance metrics of these web-based services. Commonly-used network measurement tools usually only measure network delay and it may be difficult to infer the web-delay performance using only network layer measurement approaches. In this paper, we propose to evaluate the application layer delay in a browser-based network measurement platform using engineered scripts. We conducted a delay measurement study using instrumented scripts in the proposed browser-based measurement platform. Our investigation included a comparison study of three browser-scripting delay measurement methods, including Java applet, JSP and Flash ActionScript. We developed a browser-based delay measurement testbed over the Internet so that different delay measurement tools could be evaluated in the same real network environment including typical Internet paths and the Baidu cloud. We also decomposed the components of the end-to-end delay process of the above measurements to reveal the difference and relationship between the network-layer delay and the application-layer delay. Our measurement results characterize the stochastic properties of the application-layer delay over real Internet paths, and how these properties vary from the underlying network layer delay. This browser-scripting measurement approach can be easily deployed on different cloud service platforms to inspect their application-layer delay performance between end clients and the cloud platforms. Our measurement results may provide insights into designing new cloud services with enhanced quality-of-experience perceived by cloud users.

  • This study suggested speech generation device(SGD) program to materialize the proper communication aids which address to language abilities by students with cerebral palsy in the stage of word recognition achievement. This SGD program aim at function of learning mediation and communication expression by synchronization not restrict aim of AAC aids' employment to the only function of communication expression. And this SGD was designed to evaluate language abilities of student with cerebral palsy through analysis of the date offered at this program, and then might utilize to set learning goals and objects, modify teaching contents. This SGD program have a meaning on contribution to possible teaching the user AAC aids, students with cerebral palsy by whole language approach in natural environment but in artificial situation at script.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe the technologies necessary to design responsive web with the use of the responsive website based on implementation structure as a prototype. Responsive design means the process of analyzing prototype requirements on the basis of implementation and applying the analysis results to development. The design method based on the principle of priority in development was established, and then flexibility and variability through design formula were set up. After that, the user-oriented primary principle and secondary principle were drawn to establish implementation structure. In the way of discussing compression technologies, a method of combination was searched for, and then a method of asynchronous script scalability in line with a web prototype was found. Today, a website or a web application needs to be adopted and accessed regardless of device types. As a solution, a responsive website design method was found. Important technologies for the implementation structure for the responsive website design method and its relevant prototype website were came up with.

  • In this paper we propose a VR-based Sailor Training Platform Authoring Tool which efficiently trains sailors in immersive ways. Proposed authoring tool consists of virtual environment reconstruction that imports real ship indoor environment into virtual environment and script editing which is able to implement various scenarios in emergency based on just drag-and-drop interface. The aim of importing real ship environment and supporting various VR devices is to enhance immersiveness and training so that trainees can deal with serious emergency events. Also the usefulness of the interface enables to reduce the cost of making training materials. Throughout scenario editing interface, the proposed authoring tool supports the editing of multi-user scenario and setting individual task for the evaluation.

  • Richmedia Service means that interactive media service can provide view with various multimedia elements(such as Video, Audio, Text) at same time. Various Multimedia elements can be serviced by Scene Description technology standards like BIFS(Binary Format for Scenes) and LASeR(Light Application Scene Representation). By providing Scene Component information, richmedia service is available to various multimedia services. so users is available to personalized services fitting temporal and spatial options. In conventional technology, when the scene is changed by user or service, mobile deletes the scene of configuration information and makes new scene of configuration information. this is a very inefficient way. In this paper, Propoesed that by using DOM(Document Object Model) method, to pass only the dynamic configuration part, changes scene method.

  • In order to effectively, and accurately assess seawater intrusion in coastal area, multidisciplinary data including geophysical, well logging, and hydrogeochemical data should be managed in systematical way. Such systematical management of data is critical key to improve the re-usability of the data as well as the accuracy of the assessment by means of providing a method of synthetic analysis. Therefore, for systematical management of multidisciplinary data in seawater intrusion problem, we have developed a database management system and 3-D visualization interface based on geographic information system in this, study. All geophysical survey, well logging, hydrochemical, as well as drilling, data are classified as attribute data using Microsoft Access, and joined with spatial information based on ArcView. The database management system and 3-D visualization interface to handle these data, also, developed using the script language of ArcView. We think the development of database and 3-D visualization system will improve the efficiency of data management, user-friendliness of data access, and accuracy of data analysis.

  • As a surveying standard of a nation, the Korean geodetic control points such as triangulation points and benchmarks require continuous and effective management toward a spatially enabled society. As the developments of information technologies, use of mobile devices like PDA (personal digital assistant) has been increasing and the Web 2.0 environment became an important part of GIS. In this context, the management systems for national geodetic control points should be upgraded in accordance with the current trend, particularly for more interactive user-interface on the Web 2.0. This paper describes the framework design and prototype implementation of a Web 2.0 GIS application for the management of Korean geodetic control points. Our system enables a real-time update of the control point information and provides aerial photos on vector maps using Ajax(Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) techniques.

  • Real-time Video communication technology using a Web browser today is on the rise. Video communication system The existing A method of providing an Video communication via a program for a specific server on the service provider, respectively. By using the server of the company that provides an Video communication solutions, were limited by using its own network that you can use to build a separate server for performing Video communication another, using specific software and user groups it was a mechanism for using the Video communication environment. In addition, must be installed separately and ActiveX, plug-in and, use of the service has become possible. Therefore, in this paper, utilizing the real-time Video communication Web-based technology without installing the plug-in, real-time through a Web browser or Active-X of another using a script HTML5 and the Web on the Internet Using HTTP in an environment in the Internet is possible, I've implemented a system capable of Video communication.

  • This paper describes the data model and software development of XWS, an XWEET Web-wrapper System for generation wrapper program. To access information from various information sources, one has to convert and integrate source data into the same data model. XWS is developed as a part of XWEET project. We have implemented the XWS system using the Perl programming language stressing efficiency and ease-of-use. XWS has a few distinct features. First, data model and operator used for extracting information from HTML support a unified model of different views of HTML document. Second, it provides a user-friendly interface program to enable wrapper programmer to generate wrapper easily Third, XWS use the high-level script language designed by object-oriented methodology. In this paper, we also present the detail demonstration where it is useful for extracting article information from DBLP site.

3D Brain-Endoscopy Using VRML and 2D CT images (VRML을 이용한 3차원 Brain-endoscopy와 2차원 단면 영상)

  • Virtual Brain-endoscopy is an effective method to detect lesion in brain. Brain is the most part of the human and is not easy part to operate so that reconstructing in 3D may be very helpful to doctors. In this paper, it is suggested that to increase the reliability, method of matching 3D object with the 2D CT slice. 3D Brain-endoscopy is reconstructed with 35 slices of 2D CT images. There is a plate in 3D brain-endoscopy so as to drag upward or downward to match the relevant 2D CT image. Relevant CT image guides the user to recognize the exact part he or she is investigating. VRML Script is used to make the change in images and PlaneSensor node is used to transmit the y coordinate value with the CT image. The result is test on the PC which has the following spec. 400MHz Clock-speed, 512MB ram, and FireGL 3000 3D accelerator is set up. The VRML file size is 3.83MB. There was no delay in controlling the 3D world and no collision in changing the CT images. This brain-endoscopy can be also put to practical use on medical education through internet.
