Using Haptic Device in Multimedia Education (멀티미디어 제작 실습에서의 촉각장치 활용에 관한 연구)

  • Mouse is widely used in multimedia education. However, using mouse is not easy for user to get exact three dimentional (3D) user input and to manipulate delicately as the user can not know the surface information of virtual objects, which are typical drawbacks of using mouse in multimedia education, especially in 3D multimedia contents authoring. In this paper, haptic device is introduced to the 3D multimedia education. The haptic device provides 3D user's input information as well as haptic information of virtual objects such as surface textures, collisions and etc. which thus allow to enhance the task efficiency in multimedia education. Simple experiment results are presented to show the positive results of using the haptic device in multimedia education.

  • As augmented reality technology has developed, various augmented reality contents can be seen in real life, and the performance of mobile device is improved, so augmented reality technology can be used even without special device. As a result, a training system, guidance system and a museum art guide system based on augmented reality technology are emerging, and interest in augmented reality is also increasing. However, the existing guidance systems using a single mobile device have limitations in terms of the user experience (UX) because the camera of the device limits the field of view or the two hands are not free and the user input is difficult. In this paper, we compare augmented reality based guidance systems for Rubik's Cube using tablet and HMD to improve the constraint of user experience of such a single mobile device, and find elements that positively improve user experience. After that, we evaluate whether the user experience is actually improved through the user experience comparison test and the questionnaire.

  • Recent research has become a smart home for operating the joining operation of the relationships between the device progress. However, Existing systems, there is a problem that the efficiency of the work can be degrade by the interference occurs when the operation of the other device, and triggered if the device is operating. In this paper, we designed a priority automatically set algorithm according to a user selection device to solve this problem. The user selects the device used by the application and by comparing between devices, select whether or not to set the priority of the tasks in. This allows the user can configure the working environment of only the desired device, and less chance of interference from other devices that are not selected during the work in progress can expect a more efficient productivity.

  • We are now in the era of digital convergence with CE products and PC at the center, but product diversification occurs in the same breath. Each device may perform its own functions itself independently, but proportion of the inter-device usage is increasing gradually by concept of a home network and ubiquitous widely prevailed. The consumer's need of inter-device connection will take the dominative position of the market. Therefore, we can easily forecast that diversification of the products may inevitably lead connectivity patterns complicated considering recent market situation and trends. In this paper, we propose the methodology for designing inter-device connectivity which covers issues such like segmenting numerous number of connectivity pattern, and establishing their structure of control. Our methodology also supports the inter-device connection with extensive latitudes and a multi-device simultaneous control. In order to present inter-device connectivity guideline, we define four stages of a user experience - Connection, Configuration, Use, Disconnection. Based on the 4 user experience stages, we suggest a specific connectivity designing guideline for each step.

User Authentication Using Accelerometer Sensor in Wrist-Type Wearable Device (손목 착용형 웨어러블 기기의 가속도 센서를 사용한 사용자 인증)

  • This paper proposes a method of user authentication through the patterns of arm movement with a wrist-type wearable device. Using the accelerometer sensor which is built in the device, the 3-axis accelerometer data are collected. Then, the collected data are integrated and the periodic cycle are extracted. In the cycle, the features of frequency are generated with the accelerometer. With the frequency features, 2D Gaussian mixture are modelled. For authenticating an user, the data(the accelerometer) of the user at some point are tested with confidence interval of the Gaussian distribution. The model showed a valuable results for the user authentication with an example, which is average 92% accuracy with 95% confidence interval.

  • According to development of internet and an increase in demand of multimedia contents, the contents industry is being developed. However, they are served same contents in the limited environment(user device environment, network environment) of the present contents industry. And users have difficulties in searching and finding contents since they are served contents they want and contents suitable to diverse context and affection. Therefore, it is necessary to make a system offering contents according to context and affection of users. The study proposes the system to offer contents suitable to context and affection of users whenever and wherever through diverse devices in a ubiquitous environment and designs/implementation a user device framework system that users can be offered contents suitable to their devices.

Socially Aware Device-to-multi-device User Grouping for Popular Content Distribution

  • The distribution of popular videos incurs a large amount of traffic at the base stations (BS) of networks. Device-to-multi-device (D2MD) communication has emerged an efficient radio access technology for offloading BS traffic in recent years. However, traditional studies have focused on synchronous user requests whereas asynchronous user requests are more common. Hence, offloading BS traffic in case of asynchronous user requests while considering their time-varying characteristics and the quality of experience (QoE) of video request users (VRUs) is a pressing problem. This paper uses social stability (SS) and video loading duration (VLD)-tolerant property to group VRUs and seed users (SUs) to offload BS traffic. We define the average amount of data transmission (AADT) to measure the network's capacity for offloading BS traffic. Based on this, we formulate a time-varying bipartite graph matching optimization problem. We decouple the problem into two subproblems which can be solved separately in terms of time and space. Then, we propose the socially aware D2MD user selection (SA-D2MD-S) algorithm based on finite horizon optimal stopping theory, and propose the SA-D2MD user matching (SA-D2MD-M) algorithm to solve the two subproblems. The results of simulations show that our algorithms outperform prevalent algorithms.

  • In this paper have developed a system for monitoring and processing the real time sensor data in remote site through network. For realizing this system, measurement equipment and protocol are used to transmit the measurement data to remote server and to process measurement data. In server part, the received data from remote site sensor is converted to text or graphic charts for user. The measurement device in sensor part receives the sensor data form sensor and store the received data to its internal memory for transmitting data to server part through Internet. Also the measurement device can receive data form server. The temperature sensor is connected to the measurement device located in laboratory and the measurement device measures temperature of laboratory which can be confirmed by user through Internet. We have developed a server programworking on the Linux to store measurement data from measurement device to server memory. The program is use for SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) to exchange data with measurement device. Also the program changes the measurement data into text and graphic charts for user display. The program is use apache PHP program for user display and inquiry. The real time temperature measurement system can be apply for many parts of industry and living.

Development of stuttering treatment practice device using stretch sensors (스트레치 센서를 이용한 말더듬 치료 훈련기의 개발)

  • Using stretch sensors, a stuttering treatment training device that improve the abnormal breathing of stutterer was designed and developed. To improve stutterer's inadequate breathing method that is one of principal reason of stammering, the device estimates breathing method by checking the changes of the stretch sensor's resistances those are put on the chest and abdomen of user. And a vocal exercise program that carry out exercises only when the user maintains the abdominal breathing was designed. Using a PIC16C711 device that includes an A/D convertor, a main controller was designed and the vocal exercises software was developed using Director and C program with graphic user interface for user convenience. The controller sends the resistance data of sensors to PC through the serial port and the software verifies the breathing method. And the device was designed that the RTS (request to send) pin of serial port in PC is used as a power source so that it can work without any battery or other power source. Three stutterers have carried out the clinical experiments using the implemented device for two months and the results showed it was excellent to alleviate the stuttering.
