  • To investigate the adverse effects of clozapine on cardiovascular ion channels, we examined the inhibitory effect of clozapine on voltage-dependent K+ (Kv) channels in rabbit coronary arterial smooth muscle cells. Clozapine-induced inhibition of Kv channels occurred in a concentration-dependent manner with an half-inhibitory concentration value of 7.84 ± 4.86 µM and a Hill coefficient of 0.47 ± 0.06. Clozapine did not shift the steady-state activation or inactivation curves, suggesting that it inhibited Kv channels regardless of gating properties. Application of train pulses (1 and 2 Hz) progressively augmented the clozapine-induced inhibition of Kv channels in the presence of the drug. Furthermore, the recovery time constant from inactivation was increased in the presence of clozapine, suggesting that clozapine-induced inhibition of Kv channels is use (state)-dependent. Pretreatment of a Kv1.5 subtype inhibitor decreased the Kv current amplitudes, but additional application of clozapine did not further inhibit the Kv current. Pretreatment with Kv2.1 or Kv7 subtype inhibitors partially blocked the inhibitory effect of clozapine. Based on these results, we conclude that clozapine inhibits arterial Kv channels in a concentration-and use (state)-dependent manner. Kv1.5 is the major subtype involved in clozapine-induced inhibition of Kv channels, and Kv2.1 and Kv7 subtypes are partially involved.

  • The solution of the time-dependent neutron diffusion equation can be approximated using quasi-static methods that factorise the neutronic flux as the product of a time dependent function times a shape function that depends both on space and time. A generalization of this technique is the updated modal method. This strategy assumes that the neutron flux can be decomposed into a sum of amplitudes multiplied by some shape functions. These functions, known as modes, come from the solution of the eigenvalue problems associated with the static neutron diffusion equation that are being updated along the transient. In previous works, the time step used to update the modes is set to a fixed value and this implies the need of using small time-steps to obtain accurate results and, consequently, a high computational cost. In this work, we propose the use of an adaptive control time-step that reduces automatically the time-step when the algorithm detects large errors and increases this value when it is not necessary to use small steps. Several strategies to compute the modes updating time step are proposed and their performance is tested for different transients in benchmark reactors with rectangular and hexagonal geometry.

  • There are fruitful results on degenerate parabolic-hyperbolic equations recently following the idea of $Kru{\check{z}}kov^{\prime}s$ doubling variables device. This paper is devoted to the well-posedness of nonhomogeneous boundary problem for degenerate parabolic-hyperbolic equations with spatially dependent second order operator, which has not caused much attention. The novelty is that we use the boundary flux triple instead of boundary layer to treat this problem.

  • The use of thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) for beta dosimetry has been encumbered by the energy-dependent responses of TLDs to beta radiation. This energy-dependent response is due to the low penetrating ability of beta particles. Thus the determination of the beta dose imparted to an exposed TLD chip can be accurately determined only if the energy distribution of beta radiation is correctly accounted for. So precise beta dosimeter used TLD chips place under several aluminum filters of varying thicknesses and developed to correctly determine doses due to radiation fields where the beta energy distribution is unknown.

  • Human being does work to live out and they have their private life because human has sociality. Both work and life are important to live out but they are on the trade-off relationship. Because keeping the balance between work and life is too hard, it has been interested by academic and practical areas. Definition of Work-life balance here is that balance or imbalance arising between work and life has no negative impact on their daily life. Above all, Work-life balance is important because it is strongly related to identity. Recently, the introduction of the mobile office system has emerged as a way to solve the problem of work-life balance. It is based on the teleworking which was formerly generated. Teleworking is to perform the work in the employee's home or office space set aside without going into the workplace. Concept of the mobile office system here is not only using portable devices during work for convenience but also the system which is designed for the performance. Thanks to the diffusion of smart devices(smart phone, tablet pc), mobile office system has been spread. Although the importance of mobile office systems is emerging, there are few researches about it. Even they mostly focus on the standpoint of performance of mobile office system. However, Quality of life is as important as the performance. As a part of Quality of Life field, Work-life balance is the closest to employee's quality of life. So this study aims to examine the effect of the use of mobile office systems on work-life balance. To do so, we try to find factors effecting Work-life balance from existing studies and then set a research model. We set the use of mobile office systems as independent variables which are divided by use of function, use by location and use by situation. There are four dependent variables - sense of self command, sense of balance, solving work problem, solving life problem. We collected data from employees who are using mobile office systems on their job. 215 people were participated in the survey and we used multiple regression analysis to verify our research model. Results show that every independent variable has no impact on solving work problem while they have slight impact on the other dependent variables. Especially use on the business trip has significant effect on dependent variables. It means that there is a possibility use of mobile office system could control the employee's quality of life and system should be evolved until it covers even critical tasks. Also, support for mobile office system -education, encouragement-should be provided. By mobile office system is maturing, future research would be done.

  • The present study was designed for the improvement of routine measurement of superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities utilized by a microplate reader. Superoxide radical scavenging activity by the ascorbic acid, which is a well-known superoxide scavenger, was determined in a dose-dependent manner. Hydroxyl radical scavenging activity by the thiourea, which is a well-known hydroxyl radical scavenger, was also well detected in a dose-dependent manner. Our results suggest that the use of microplate reader to assay the superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities improves the accuracy of data and enables the use of much smaller amounts of samples and/or reagents, with much simpler experimental procedure. Therefore, These methods appear to be suitable for screening of superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities in both the plant medicinal extracts and the isolated compounds.

  • The falling ball viscometer has been widely used for measuring the viscosity of the Newtonian fluids because of its simple theory and low cost. The use of the falling ball viscometer for measuring the non-Newtonian viscosity has been of interest to rheologists for some years. The analysis of the experimental results in a falling ball viscometer rest on Stokes law which yields the terminal velocity for a sphere moving through an infinite medium of fluids. An attempt to use the falling ball viscometer to measure the non-Newtonian viscosity in the intermediate shear rate ranEe was sucessfully accomplished by combining the direct experimental obserbations with a simple analytical model for the average shear-stress and shear rate at, the surface of a sphere. In the experiments with highly viscoelastic polyacrylamide solutions the terminal velocity was observed to be dependent on the time interval between the dropping of successive balls. The time-dependent phenomenon was used to determine characteristic diffusion times of the concentrated solutions of polyacrylamide.
