  • A telephone survey was conducted in a metropolitan city in 2012 to examine people's credibility ratings of different media outlets, in particular, Weibo - one of the most popular social media platforms in China. Our findings suggest: First, people place more trust in traditional news media than in online sources by a significant margin. Second, demographic influences on media trust seem to be minimal. Only age and gender were related to some credibility measures. Third, Weibo use was not related to one's credibility perception toward traditional media but interestingly, Weibo use showed different impacts on people's evaluation of Weibo's credibility. Commenting frequency was negatively related to one's trust in Weibo, while retweeting frequency was positively related to one's trust in Weibo.

  • Smartphones are representative multimedia devices capable of various functions that have emerged due to the development of information communication technologies (ICTs). The popularization of smartphones has changed the way ICTs media is used; consequnetly, it is expected that smartphones will influence family life by changing family communications and time use. However, there is a gap between the empirical research on ICTs media and family. This study explores any correlations in the amount of time spent on smartphones between a husband and wife. We marged 1,444 married couples' media diaries from the 8th Korean Media Panel Survey (2017) to analyze the average amount of time spent on communications and leisure shopping using smartphones. The results show that husbands' time use for communication has increased similarly to wives' time use. In addition, husbands' time use for leisure and shopping was positively related to wives' time spent on communications and leisure shopping. The findings show that the use of smartphones is interrelated within the family and suggested that a family systems approach is needed in ICTs media research. Future studies will provide a deeper understanding of the impact of ICTs media and how families are using a variety of ICTs media devices such as smartphones.

  • Recently, Communication media have been developed for the underwater communication in underwater environments where the underwater communication failures occur frequently. Although the underwater communication by one medium is not stable due to the influence of the underwater environment, the use of various communication media can complement each other and so this makes the underwater communication more stable. For this reason, this paper proposes approaches to the design and implementation of integrated MAC for complementing individual unstable underwater communications. In addition this paper presents the comparison and analysis on each of the proposed approaches so to be able to provide guidelines to designers and implementers of integrated MAC.

  • This article attempts to explain social media use within the relationship between the public and government of Indonesia in the era of digital government, as well as to consider public opinion on this matter. This research is based on the application of social media logic and the theory of dialogic communication and action. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to observe the general behavior of social media use by 34 ministries in Indonesia, including interviews with the resource persons within the ministries and focus group discussions with members of the public and observers. The research shows that the relationship between the public and government is accommodative and in line with social media logic. The public sector implemented social media as its platform, which has been further adopted by all ministries. The public sector cannot avoid social media, as it has become part of basic connectivity, even though the use of social media by the government still tends to be in the form of presenting public information. There are advantages and disadvantages of the usage of social media by the government. The advantages include allowing the government to be more open via social media so that communication between the government as the ruling organization and its public can be more fluent. Social media provides space to the public sector in the practice of digital government. Some disadvantages arise as logical consequences that usage of social media cannot be separated from the implementation of digital government. The adaptive behavior of social media by the government can be found by following social media logic as part of digital government implementation. Social media logic causes the government to follow the rules of social media. In this context, the strength and power of the country seems to be regulated by social media. Therefore, more studies on how social media is managed in the context of its usage as digital government support is needed.
