The efficiency and robustness of the scale estimator based on the Gini's mean difference are well known in Nam et al.(2000). In this paper we propose use of robust control limits based on the Gini's mean difference for the control of the process deviation. To compare the performances of the proposed control chart with the existing R-chart or S-chart, some Monte Carlo simulations are performed. The simulation results show that the use of the Gini's mean difference in construction of the control limits has good performance.

Background: The results of the Global School Personnel Survey (GSPS) conducted in India in 2009 are compared with 2006 GSPS to assess any change in 2009 on tobacco use and knowledge and attitudes to tobacco use, training and availability of tobacco control teaching material in schools and the existence of school tobacco control policies. Methods: GSPS is a cross sectional survey conducted twice (2006 and 2009) in entire India. A total of 180 schools were surveyed each time. Results: Of the participating school personnel, 2660 in 2006 and 2575 in 2009, about 95% were teachers and the balance administrators. In 2009, compared to 2006 the prevalence of current smoking of cigarettes (19.6% in 2006 and 10.3% in 2009) and bidis (21.5% in 2006 and 13.9% in 2009) was found to be significantly lower; the percentage of teachers receiving training on preventing youth tobacco use has significantly reduced (16.7% in 2006 and 10.1% in 2009); access of teachers to educational materials on tobacco use and how to prevent its use among youth had not increased (34.6% in 2006 and 37.8% in 2009); there was no change in policy prohibiting tobacco use among students and school personnel; however, ever use of any tobacco on school premises was significantly lower (15.6% in 2006 and 9.6% in 2009). Conclusions: The prevalence of current smoking (cigarettes/bidis) among school personnel and use of any tobacco on school premises were significantly decreased in 2009 as compared to 2006. Necessary action should be planned to increase the number of teachers trained and the availability of teaching materials on preventing youth tobacco use in order to have effective prevention of tobacco use among students.

This paper numerically and experimentally investigates the control performance of the active mass damper (AMD) systems in a 26-story high-rise building in use. This is the first full-scale application of the AMD system for suppressing the wind-induced vibration of a building structure in Korea. In addition, the AMD system was installed on top of the building already in use, which may be the world's first implementation case. In order to simultaneously mitigate the transverse-torsional coupled vibration of the building, two AMD systems were applied. Moreover, the H-infinity control algorithm has been developed to utilize the maximum capacity of the AMD system. From the results of numerical simulation using the wind load obtained from the wind tunnel tests, it was found that the maximum acceleration responses of the building were reduced significantly. Moreover, the control performance of the installed AMD system was examined by carrying out the free and forced vibration tests. The acceleration responses on top of the building in the controlled case measured under strong wind loads were compared with those in the uncontrolled case numerically simulated by using the wind load deduced from the measured data and a structural model of the building. It is demonstrated that the AMD system shows good control performance in reducing the building accelerations.
This paper reviews some of the most prominent and promising areas of chemical process control both in relations to batch and continuous processes. These areas include the modeling, optimization, control and monitoring of chemical processes and entire plants. Most of these areas explicitly utilize a model of the process. For this purpose the types of models used are examined in some detail. These types of models are categorized in knowledge-driven and datadriven classes. In the areas of modeling and optimization, attention is paid to batch reactors using the Tendency Modeling approach. These Tendency models consist of data- and knowledge-driven components and are often called Gray or Hybrid models. In the case of continuous processes, emphasis is placed in the closed-loop identification of a state space model and their use in Model Predictive Control nonlinear processes, such as the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking process. The effective monitoring of multivariate process is examined through the use of statistical charts obtained by the use of Principal Component Analysis (PMC). Static and dynamic charts account for the cross and auto-correlation of the substantial number of variables measured on-line. Centralized and de-centralized chart also aim in isolating the source of process disturbances so that they can be eliminated. Even though significant progress has been made during the last decade, the challenges for the next ten years are substantial. Present progress is strongly influenced by the economical benefits industry is deriving from the use of these advanced techniques. Future progress will be further catalyzed from the harmonious collaboration of University and Industrial researchers.
According to technology acceptance model(TAN) which is one of the most important research models for explaining IT users' behavior, on intention of using IT is determined by usefulness and ease of use of it. However, TAM wouldn't explain the performance of using IT while it has been considered as a very good model for prediction of the intention. Many people would not be confirmed in the performance of using IT until they can control it at their will, although they think it useful and easy to use. In other words, in addition to usefulness and ease of use as in TAM, controllability is also should be a factor to determine acceptance of IT. Especially, there is a very close relationship between controllability and ease of use, both of which explain the other sides of control over the performance of using IT, so called perceived behavioral control(PBC) in social psychology. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between ease of use and controllability, and analyse the effects of both two beliefs over performance and intention in using IT. For this purpose, we review the issues related with PBC in information systems studies as well as social psychology, Based on a review of PBC, we suggest a research model which includes the relationship between control and performance in using IT, and prove its validity empirically. Since it was introduced as qa variable for explaining volitional control for actions in theory of planned behavior(TPB), there have been confusion about concept of PBC in spite of its important role in predicting so many kinds of actions. Some studies define PBC as self-efficacy that means actor's perception of difficulty or ease of actions, while others as controllability. However, this confusion dose not imply conceptual contradiction but a double-faced feature of PBC since the performance of actions is related with both self-efficacy and controllability. In other words, these two concepts are discriminated and correlated with each other. Therefore, PBC should be considered as a composite concept consisting of self-efficacy and controllability, Use of IT has been also one of important areas for predictions by PBC. Most of them have been studied by analysis of comparison in prediction power between TAM and TPB or modification of TAM by inclusion of PBC as another belief as like usefulness and ease of use. Interestingly, unlike the other applications in social psychology, it is hard to find such confusion in the concept of PBC in the studies for use of IT. In most of studies, controllability is adapted as PBC since the concept of self-efficacy is included in ease of use explicitly. Based on these discussions, we can suggest perceived use control(PUC) which is defined as perception of control over the performance of using IT and composed of controllability and ease of use as sub-concepts. We suggest a research model explaining acceptance of IT which includes the relationships of PUC with attitude and performance of using IT. For empirical test of our research model, two user groups are selected for surveying questionnaires. In the first group, there are freshmen who take a basic course for Microsoft Excel, and the second group consists of senior students who take a course for analysis of management information by Excel. Most of measurements are adapted ones that have been validated in the other studies, while performance is real score of mid-term in each class. In result, four hypotheses related with PUC are supported statistically with very low significance level. Main contribution of this study is suggestion of PUC through theoretical review of PBC. Specifically, a hierarchical model of PUC are derived from very rigorous studies in the relationship between self-efficacy and controllability with a view of PBC in social psychology. The relationship between PUC and performance is another main contribution.
This study used a latent growth curve models(LGCM) to examine longitudinal changes in youth's game usage, self-control and the longitudinal mediation effect of adaptive game use in the relationship between game usage and self-control. A four-year longitudinal data of 863 adolescents from the Game User Panel Survey, provided through participation in the 2019 Game User Panel Research Conference hosted by the Korea Creative Contents Agency, was used to verify the longitudinal mediation effect of adaptive game use. SPSS 21 was used to verify the normality of variables from each wave, and to conduct correlation analysis. Mplus 6.12 was used to verify the longitudinal mediation effect. The results are as follows. First, game usage, self-control and adaptive game yielded linear temporal growth. Second, latent growth curve models showed that the direct effect of game usage on self-control was insignificant, but game usage had a significant indirect effect on self-control through adaptive game use. Continuous adaptive gaming increased self-control. Third, sobel test results showed that both the initial value and change rate of adaptive game use had a full-mediation effect, confirming the longitudinal mediation effect. This study verified the longitudinal change of self-control affected by change in game usage and adaptive game use.
Control of tool-environment interaction force to comply the robot system to an environment is of vital in many automated process. This paper presents the implementation of an adaptive force control with commercial robot system in two dimensional contour following task. A model reference adaptive control system, combined with the linear compensators, is implemented. That is, a use of adaptive control is to provide an auxiliary control system so that the contour following performance can be improved from that of using linear control system only. Hyperstability is used to derive the adaptive control law. Experimental verification of the proposed control system is obtained using PUMA 560 robot system. Data obtained experimentally shows that the use of additional adaptive control system improves the contour following performance about 30% in RMS contact force errors upon that of the system controlled by the linear compensators only.

The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze through structural relationship analysis the relationship between excessive smartphone use by adolescents and school adaption. A questionnaire was administered to 866 elementary, middle and high school students who are using smartphones SEM was applied to the analysis with the following results. First, the relationship between excessive smartphone use and school adaptation was not significant. Second, the relationship between social support and excessive smartphone use had significant influence. Third, there is a significant influence in the relationship between self-control and excessive smartphone use. Fourth, social support and self-control of adolescents had a direct influence on school adaptation. Fifth, social support and self-control mediate the relationship between smartphone overuse and school adaptation. Therefore, increasing the adaptability of adolescents requires efforts to firm social support system by expanding autonomous sense or self-control personally and mutual support in the family.

The existing methods for control between smart devices in near used Bluetooth, WiFi-Direct, or socket communication using Wi-Fi. However, those have a problem that can not use when operating system of each smart devices is different or when socket server is not working. In this paper, we proposed a new near control technology using High frequencies in audible frequency between smart devices to supplement the problem of existing methods. High frequencies use micro-phone and speaker of smart device and are a control signals that is combined high frequencies within 18kHz ~ 22kHz among audible frequency range. The proposed technology using High frequencies do not need any extra communication modules or socket servers and can use the most smart devices without operating system of devices. To evaluate the performance of the proposed technology, we developed a music play and music control application applied the proposed technology and tested a control experiment using the developed applications. The control success rate was 97% and recognition rate of surrounding people about using high frequencies was under 5%. Therefore, the proposed technology will be the useful technology to control between smart devices in near.
