연폭로시 혈구용적치 및 혈색소치의 변화 (The Effects of Lead Exposure on Hematocrit ana Hemoglobin)

  • In order to study the effect of lead exposure on the hematocrit and hemoglobin values in accordance with the level of lead exposure, twenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into four groups of six rats each. Lead acetate disolved in glucose was injected intraperitoneally six times a week, for four weeks with dose of 0.05 mg/kg/day for group I, 0.5 mg/kg/day for group II, and 5 mg/kg/day for group III. Control group was injected glucose only. Blood samples for the checking of the hematocrit and hemoglobin values, were taking from tail vein of rats before lead injection and on the third, seventh, fourteenth, twenty-first, and twenty-eighth days after lead injection. And also, the concentration of lead and ALA in urine were checked for evaluating the lead absorption. The results were as follows: 1. The alteration of the hematocrit and hemoglobin values of the group I was not significant as that of the control group. 2. In group II, the hematocrit values were significantly decreased from the fourteenth day after lead injection, and the hemoglobin values were decreased from the twenty-first day after lead injection when the concentration of lead in urine was elevated more than $260{\mu}g/liter$. 3. In group III, the hematocrit values were decreased from the seventh day after lead injection, and the hemoglobin values were decreased even from the third day after lead injection. And the hemoglobin values were more rapidly decreased than the hematocrit values. 4. In all groups, the correlation coefficient between hematocrit and hemoglobin was highly significant. And the difference between the correlation coefficient of the group III and that of the others was highly significant.

비산단지역 환경오염 수준 및 주민의 생체지표 모니터링 (Monitoring Study on Exposure Levels of Environmental Pollutants in Residents of a Non-Industrial Area, Korea)

  • Objectives: The main purpose of this study is to produce background data which can be compared with data on vulnerable areas such as industrial complexes in Ulsan, SihwaBanwol, Gwangyang, Yeosu, Pohang, Cheongju and Daesan in Korea. Methods: This study was performed on 1,007 local residents in Gangneung using personal questionnaires and medical check-up. Environmental pollutants including heavy metals in blood and urine were analyzed and the results are as follows. Results: According to the results of medical check-up, 705 subjects were "Normal (A and B)", 232 subjects were "Disease doubtful (R1)" and 70 subjects were "High blood pressure or Diabetes doubtful (R2)". Regarding geometric mean concentration, blood lead was 1.57 ${\mu}g/dL$, urine cadmium was 0.82 ${\mu}g/g-cr$, urine mercury was 0.98 ${\mu}g/g-cr$ and urine arsenic was 15.78 ${\mu}g/g-cr$. In the analysis of 11 kinds of VOCs in blood, vinyl chloride, 1,3-butadiene and dichloroethylene were not detected, while the detection rate of other chemicals was above 70% except chloroform(49.7%) and trichloroethylene(19.0%). In analysis of 16 kinds of PAHs in blood, 10 kinds showed more than 80% in detection rate. Also, detection rate of 4 kinds of PCBs in blood ranged 52 to 78%. Conclusions: Compared with industrial compelxes, the concentration of blood lead was lower, while urine cadmium and mercury levels were similar. Also, urine arsenic ranged at a significant level. Further study is required to find the cause of regional differences in concentrations of environmental pollutants.

경구 D-PCA의 연배설에 관한 조사 (A Study on the Urinary Lead Excretion after Oral D-penicillamine Administration)

  • For the purpose of further health control, D-penicillamine was orally administered to 8 persons who were employed in lead industry and suspected lead intoxication routine industrial health examination. The does of D-penicillamine was 600 mg per day and was administered orally in every other 5 days, For the laboratory analysis 24 hours urine and 10 gm of whole blood were collected every day. The results were as follows; 1. It was found that mean urinary lead excretion per day was 446.5 g/l and 394.98 g/l, respectively during the first 5-day and the second 5-day administration with D-penicillamine. 2. Mean lead excretion per day was $130.56{\pm}66.42g/l$ after first 5-day administration and $159.28{\pm}104.44g/l$ after second 5-day administration with D-penicillamine. 3. The level of urinary lead excretion after administration increased 3 to 4 times than that before administration with D-peniciilamine. 4. Blood and urinary lead level investigated after 6 months were $44.4{\pm}10.2g/100g\;and\;72.7{\pm}29.7\;g/l$ for the eight persons.

일부 농촌 성인 남녀의 일상식이중 납 섭취수준과 칼슘 섭취량, 혈액 수준 및 뇨중 배설량과의 관계 (The Relationship between Lead Intake and Calcium Status in Korean Rural Adult Men and Women on Self-Selected Diet)

  • This study was carried out to estimate the dally intake of lead and the relationship among dietary In take, serum level, and urinary excretion of calcium In 30 healthy adults living In rural area of Korea (12 males and 18 females). Analyses for the nutritional status of the subjects were performed by 3-day dietary intake record, duplicated diet collection, 24-hour urine collection, and venous blood sampling. The results were as follows The mean daily intake of energy was 2,176.3kcal and 1,613.9kcal in males and (tamales of 20∼49years, and 1,914.8kcal and 1,517.9kcal in males and females of 50∼59years, respectively The ratio of carbohydrate : fat : protein was 73.4:13.6:13.0 in males and 76.4:10.3:13.3 In females. The mean daily intake of lead was 277.2Pg in males and 192.0ug in females. The mean daily intake, serum level, and urinary excretion of calcium were 491.1mg, 8.9mg/dl, and 80.7mg in males and 426.7mg, 8.8mg /dl, and 80.3mg in females, respectively. No significant correlation was found between the daily lead intake and the dietary intake, serum level, and urinary excretion of calcium. It was concluded that the daily lead intake was lower than the acceptable daily lead intake of FAO/WHO but a little higher than that of other investigations. And the daily lead intake was not level that relate to calcium status seriously.

지역 특성에 따른 주민의 혈중 Pb 농도와 요중 Cotinine의 농도 (Level of Blood Lead and Urine Cotinine of Residents by Area)

  • The National Institute of Environmental Research (3rd KONEHs) conducted a survey of 280 residents in Ulsan, Suwon and Asan, and the concentration of heavy metals in the blood and urine were also analyzed. In case of blood lead concentration, Ulsan $2.27{\mu}g/dl$, Suwon $2.08{\mu}g/dl$, and Asan $1.75{\mu}g/dl$, the high peak in Ulsan, and the low peak in Asan. In case of cotinine concentration, Ulsan smoking($609.16{\mu}g/g{\_}ct$) is higher than nonsmoking($74.07{\mu}g/g{\_}ct$), as Suwon and Asan smoking($416.72{\mu}g/g{\_}ct$, $903.21{\mu}g/g{\_}ct$) is higher than nonsmoking($72.72{\mu}g/g{\_}ct$, $18.06{\mu}g/g{\_}ct$), smoking group is higher than nonsmoking group in all areas revealed statistically significant correlation(p<0.01). In considering results synthetically, these study results are an aid to constructing environmental health science-side heavy metal management measure education programs for normal residents.

갈근추출물이 납 중독된 흰쥐의 혈액성분 및 조직의 납 축적에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Extract of Pueraria radix on Hematological Properties and Lead Level of the Tissues of the Pb-administered Rats)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of Korean Pueraria radix extract in Pb administered rats. Pb exposed rats were given 1% Pb in the diet. $\delta$-Adminolevulinic acid(DALA) and urinary glucose levels were increased with Pb administration and were lower in the Pb group than in the group administered Pb alone. Hematocrit value was decreased with Pb administration and was higher in the Pb group than in the C-Pb grou. $\delta$-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (DALAD) activity was decreased in the Pb group. ALT and AST were increased by Pb added and were lower in the Pb group than in the C-Pb group. Serum Pb content was higher in the Pb exposed rats than in the control groups, and no significant difference was found due to extract of Pueraria radix supplementation. Levels of liver, kidney and femur lead were reduced by Pueraria radix. Lead contents in feces and urine were higher in the Pb added groups than in the control group, and level of feces lead was increased by extract of Pueraria radix.

저농도 연 폭로근로자들의 혈중 및 요중 연량과 생화학적 검사치들 간의 관련성 (Relationship between Lead Levels in Blood and Urine and Laboratory Test Values among Lead Exposed Workers)

  • The study subjects included the workers who were estimated to have been exposed in a low density of lead-laden glaze from pottery manufacturers. They were evaluated in terms of PbB and PbU as indices of lead concentration in the body, and Hb, Hct, ALAD, and FEP as indices of biochemical lead poisoning. Consequently, the study results revealed the relationship between each of indices and its effectiveness to indicate the degree of occupational lead exposure. 1. The mean of PbB was $22.85{\;}{\mu}g/d{\ell}$(range; $4.2~44.7{\;}{\mu}g/d{\ell}$) and PbU $45.69{\mu}g/d{\ell}$(range; $6.7~87.5{\mu}g/d{\ell}$), to indicate the level of lead exposure in the subjects. 2. While there was a high, linear correlation between PbB, PbU and FEP (r=0.835, r=0.855, respectively), a low correlation existed between PbB and ALAD(r=-0.240). 3. While there was a high, linear correlation between PbU and FEP(r=0.825), a low correlation existed between PbU and ALAD(r=-0.352). The above results suggest that FEP can be used as a highly useful biochemical index of lead poisoning, based on its high correlation with PbB and PbU indicating lead concentration in the body.

폐금속 광산지역 토양 중 중금속 농도와 주민의 혈액 및 요중 중금속 농도와의 관련성 (Relationship between Heavy Metal Concentrations in the Soil with the Blood and Urine of Residents around Abandoned Metal Mines)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted in order to examine the relationship between heavy metal concentrations in the soil and the level of heavy metals in the blood or urine of 216 local residents living near abandoned metal mines. Methods: Residents around abandoned metal mines were interviewed about their dietary habits, including seafood consumption, medical history, cigarette smoking, and drug history. Metal concentrations in the soil were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA-7000, Shimadzu, Japan). Lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) contents in the blood or urine were analyzed by GF-AAS (AA-6800, Shimadzu). Mercury (Hg) contents in the blood were determined by means of a mercury analyzer (SP-3DS, NIC). Arsenic (As) content in the soil and urine were measured by a HG-AAS (hydride vapor generation-atomic absorption spectrophotometer). Results: The heavy metal concentrations in the soil showed a log normal distribution and the geometric means of the four villages were 8.61 mg/kg for Pb, 0.19 mg/kg for Cd, 1.81 mg/kg for As and 0.035 mg/kg for Hg. The heavy metal levels of the 216 local residents showed a regular distribution for Pb, Cd, Hg in the blood and As in the urine. The arithmetic means were 3.37 ${\mu}g$/dl for Pb, 3.07 ${\mu}g$/l for Cd and 2.32 ${\mu}g$/l for Hg, 10.41 ${\mu}g$/l for As, respectively. Conclusions: As a result of multi-variate analysis for the affecting factors on the bodily heavy metal concentrations, gender and concentration in the soil (each, p<0.01) for blood lead levels; gender and smoking status (each, p<0.01) for blood cadmium levels; gender (p<0.01) for urine arsenic levels; gender, age and concentration in the soil (p<0.01) for blood mercury levels were shown to be the affecting factors.

지역에 따른 어린이 색각이상의 유병율에 관한 연구 (The study on prevalence of color vision loss by residential difference of children)

  • 본 연구에서는 지역에 따른 어린이들의 색각이상 유병율을 보고자 했다. 연구대상자는 4개 지역의 3-6 학년 초등학생들을 대상으로 하였다. 혈중 납과 요중 수은은 원자흡광분석기로 측정을 하였으며, 모든 연구대상자들은 CDC와 ATSDR 권고기준 이하였다. 색각검사는 Lanthony D-15 desaturated panel test를 이용하였으며, 정량적 평가와 정성적 평가를 동시에 시행하였다. 연구결과 공단지역 어린이들은 다른 지역에 비해 높은 색혼돈지수와 유병율을 보였다. 환경오염노출과 관련해서는 혈중 납과 요중 수은과의 연관성은 찾을 수 없었다. 따라서 본 연구결과 공단지역 어린이들의 색각이상에는 다른 영향요인이 작용했을 것으로 본다.

일부 폐금속광산 주변지역 중금속 노출요인이 지역주민 체내 중금속농도 및 생체지표에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Exposure Factors on the Concentration of Heavy Metals in Residents Near Abandoned Metal Mines)

  • Objectives: This study assessed the factors that have an influence on the residents exposed to heavy metals, and we utilized the findings to establish the proper management of abandoned metal mines in the future. Methods: For a total of 258 residents who lived close to abandoned mines in Gangwon-province and Gyeonggi-province, the exposure factors and biomarkers in their blood and urine were comparatively analyzed via multiple regression analysis. Results: The blood levels of lead and mercury and the cadmium levels in urine were found to be higher in the study group than that in the average Korean. For the blood levels of heavy metals according to each exposure factor, all of them were found to be significantly higher in both of the group residing for a longer period of time and the group living closer to the source of pollutants. Multiple regression analysis disclosed that all the heavy metals, except lead, in their blood were significantly reduced in proportion to the increased distance of inhabitancy from the mines. Their other biomarkers were within the normal ranges. Conclusions: We found that the distance between the residential village and the mines was a factor that affects the blood level of heavy metals in the villagers. This finding could be an important factor when developing a management model for the areas that surround abandoned metal mines. (ED note: I much like this important study.)
