This study examined characteristic differences by the rainfall direction on the runoff responses. The directional characteristics of hydrological components in a basin were quantified by von Mises distribution. The runoff hydrograph was derived using the result of convolution integration of each distribution and this hydrograph was compared with GIUH model and observed data. As a result, it was found that runoff response by rainfall direction was more similar the observed rainfall-runoff data than the runoff result using GIUH model. These results implies that runoff modeling could be improved by considering directional components in hydrologic analysis. This study would be helpful to reduce uncertainties of hydrologic analysis considering a non-linearity of rainfall-runoff process by the rainfall direction.
Rainfall falling in the impervious area of the cities flows over the surface and into the stormwater pipe networks to be discharged from the catchment. Therefore, it is very important to determine the size of stormwater pipes based on the peak discharge to mitigate urban flood. Climate change causes the severe rainfall in the small area, then the peak rainfall can not be discharged due to the capacity of the stormwater pipes and causes the urban flood for the short time periods. To mitigate these type of flood, the large stormwater pipes have to be constructed. However, the economic factor is also very important to design the stormwater pipe networks. In this study, 4 urban catchments were selected from the frequently flooded cities. Rainfall data from Seoul and Busan weather stations were applied to calculate runoff from the catchments using SWMM model. The characteristics of the peak runoff were analyzed using linear regression model and the 95% confidence interval and the coefficient of variation was calculated. The drainage density was calculated and the runoff characteristics were analyzed. As a result, the drainage density were depended on the structure of stormwater pipe network whether the structures are dendritic or looped. As the drainage density become higher, the runoff could be predicted more accurately. it is because the possibility of flooding caused by the capacity of stormwater pipes is decreased when the drainage density is high. It would be very efficient if the structure of stormwater pipe network is considered when the network is designed.

This study has an object to evaluate runoff characteristics with ILLUDAS model and SWMM owing to each rainfall distribution type of Huff's quartile and each rainfall duration time of 30 ,60, 120 and 180 minutes. As a result of this study, Type-Ⅰ Extreme (TIE) rainfall distribution pattern with Huff's 2nd quartile is adequate for Cheju volcanic island . To decide optimal rain fall duration , time of concentration and critical duration should be compared and analyzed each other. In this study, 30 and 120 miniutes were suggeste to iptiaml duration time of A and B study basins. It is concluded that the magnitude of peak runoff discharge is maximum with Huff's 4th quartile, and that of total runoff volume is maximum with Huff's 4th quartile for ILLUDAS model and with Huff's 1st quartile for SWMM. As rainfall duration time increasing is increasing . Also in case of total runoff volume, volumen by SWMM is less than by ILLUDAS model as to variation ratio of total runoff volume in A and B study basin. Therefore, the resulots of this study canb e sued as basic data in determining adequate rainfoal duration time and rainfall distribution type and used for urban drainage systems analysis and design at small urbanization catchment is Cheju volcanic island.
Recently, runoff characteristics of urban area are changing because of the increase of impervious area by rapidly increasing of population and industrialization, urbanization. It needs to extract the accurate topologic and hydrologic parameters of watershed in order to manage water resource efficiently. Thus, this study developed more precise input data and more improved parameter estimating procedures using GIS(Geographic Information System) and GA(Genetic Algorithm). For these purposes, XP-SWMM (EXPert-Storm Water Management Model) was used to simulate the urban runoff. The model was applied to An-Yang stream basin that is a typical Korean urban stream basin with several tributaries. The rules for parameter estimation were composed and applied based on quantity parameters that are investigated through the sensitivity analysis. GA algorithm is composed of these rules and facts. The conditions of urban flows are simulated using the rainfall-runoff data of the study area. The data of area, slope, width of each subcatchment and length, slope of each stream reach were acquired from topographic maps, and imperviousness rate, land use types, infiltration capacities of each subcatchment from land use maps, soil maps using GIS. Also we gave the management scheme of urbanization runoff using XP-SWMM. The parameters are estimated by GA from sensitivity analysis which is performed to analyze the runoff parameters.
Urbanization from agricultural/forest areas has been causing increased runoff and pollutant loads from it. Thus, numerous models have been developed to estimate NPS loading from urban area and Long-Term Hydrologic Impact Analysis (L-THIA) model has been used to evaluate effects of landuse changes on runoff and pollutant loads. However, the L-THIA model could not consider rainfall intensity in runoff evaluation. Therefore, the L-THIA model, capable of simulating runoff using 10-minute rainfall data, was applied to the study areas for evaluation of estimated runoff and NPS. The estimated Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NSE) values were over 0.6 for runoff, BOD, TN, and TP for most sites and watershed. The calibrated model was further extended to other counties for pollutant load potential evaluation. Pollutant load potential maps were developed and target areas were identified. As shown in this study, the L-THIA 2012 can be used for evaluation runoff and pollutant loads with limited data sets and its estimation could be used in identifying pollutant load hot spot areas for implementation of site-specific Best Management Practices.
This study has two objectives. One is developing the runoff model for Hoe-Dong Reservoir basin located at the upstream of Su-Young River in Pusan. To develop the runoff model, basic hydrological parameters - curve number to find effective rainfall, and storage coefficient, etc. - should be estimated. In this study, the effective rainfall was calculated by the SCS method, and the storage coefficient used in the Clark watershed routing was cited from the report of P.E.B. The other is the derivation of transfer function for Hoe-Dong Reservoir basin. The linear, discrete, input-output model which contained six parameters was selected, and the parameters were estimated by the least square method and the correlation function method, respectively. Throughout this study, rainfall and flood discharge data were based on the field observation in 1981.8.22 - 8.23 (typhoon Gladys). It was observed that the Clark watershed routing regenerated the flood hydrograph of typhoon Gladys very well, and this fact showed that the estimated hydrological parameters were relatively correct. Also, the calculated hydrograph by the linear, discrete, input-output model showed good agreement with the regenerated hydrograph at Hoe-Dong Dam site, so this model can be applicable to other small urban areas. Key Words : runoff, effective rainfall, SCS method, clark watershed iou상ng, hydrological parameters, parameter estimation, least square method, correlation function method, input-output model, typhoon gladys.
Recently, due to the rapid industrialization and urbanization, a great number of infrastructure and population were concentrated in urban areas. These changes have resulted in unprecedent runoff characteristics in urban basins, and the increase in impermeable areas leads to the growth of the runoff and the peak flow rate. Although many cities have made a lot of efforts to check and expand the stormwater network, the flash flood or the local torrential rain caused a growing number of casualty and property damage. This study analyzed the stormwater passage rate in a target area using SWMM. By incorporating the flow quantity surpassing the storm sewer capacity, a 2D inland flooding analysis model was applied to route the inundated area and velocity.

Urban runoff models have been continuously developing with concerns for urban flood. Recently, models that be able to quantitatively analyze surface inundation caused by overflowed water from storm sewer were also developed by coupling 1-dimensional sewer model and 2-dimensional surface flow model. However, only overflowed water from storm sewer can be analyzed by the models have been developed until now. They are limited to be not able to analyze surface inundation caused by surface runoff that could not flow into the storm sewer. In order to overcome the limitation, basin-overlap method was devised adding a dummy 1-dimensional sewer layer to the model, so it can consider the efficiency of inflow to the storm sewer system. XP-SWMM 2011 is applied for urban runoff model and the flood event occurred on July 27, 2011 in basin-shaped Sadangcheon watershed is chosen for study inundation event. According to simulation results basin-overlap method reappear the observed inundation event more precisely than traditional method. This results suggest that drainage system has to be improved for reducing inundation caused by surface runoff and would be used as considerations for planning an urban basin design magnitude.

The purpose of this study is to propose a method of computing urban runoff from urban drainage areas in Korea. Four different methods are studied and applied to two detention basins in Seoul: Wheekyeong and Yongdoo detention basins. The computation of runoff from the two basins was carried out for 10 historical storms, and the results computed by each method were compared with those observed. As the standards for comparision, peak discharges. total runoff volumes and the shapes of hydrographs are selected. The present research concludes that Rational formula and KPRRL can be used only for computing peak discharges in small urban areas and ILLUDAS shows the fair accuracy compared to the observed. ILLUDAS was selected as the best fit model to be applied to the Korean urban areas, since it showed more accurate results under the different types of storms.
This study is aimed at the development of a deterministic runoff model which can be used for flood runoff. The model is formulated by the watershed runoff model. Based on the assumptions that runoff system is nonlinear, the proposed watershed runoff model is the conceptual model. In the model structure, the conceptual model divides the runoff system into a surface structure and a subsurface structure corresponding to the surface flow, and inter flow and ground water flow respectively. The lag time effect of surface can be represented by the sub-tank of surface structure in the conceptual model. The parameter calibration of inter flow and ground water flow in the subsurface structure of the conceptual model is performed by separating the components with numeric filter The runoff coefficient($\alpha$$_2$) is expressed as the function of antecedent precipitation index(API). The parameters with the surface flow can be calibrated with the runoff coefficient($\alpha$$_1$ and $\alpha$/$_{11}$) in the conceptual model. In the conceptual model, an algorithm is developed to calibrate the parameters automatically based on efficiency criteria. The comparative study shows that simulated value from the conceptual model well agreed to observed value.
