It is needed to regenerate declined industrial districts in downtown area through to invite new industry and to improve urban environment. The purpose of this paper was to make suggestions on the urban regeneration for the districts. I have taken a literature research and a site analysis with cases of 'the South Lake Union' in Seattle and 'Pearl District' in Portland, USA. The result of the analysis was as follows: (1) The land use was changed to mixed use of business-commerce-recreation. The building use was changed to facilities for work, play and live. (2) Infrastructures were improved for user oriented facilities such as pedestrian friendly street, public parks & open spaces, public transportation system, and life supporting facilities. (3) The place identity was enhanced through the preservation of urban structure-tissues, renovation of existing buildings, and preservation of historical heritages.
The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of the urban apartment dwellers' favorite interior design Interior design was examined by renovation, the amibience, the color and the materials ofliving room. Questionnaire survey method was used in this research. By random sampling, 2, 609 apartment dwellers from Seoul. Pusan, Kwangju and Cheonan were selected. On the basis of findings of this study, conclusions were drawn as follows: By regional comparison, the dwellers of Seoul have a tendency to prefer elegant space, those of Pusan incline to prefer rich space, those of Kwangju imposing space and those of Cheonan casual one.

Deokjin Park in Jeonju City was the site of a pond during the Koryo Period. Although Jeonju City has developed rapidly in modem times, Deokjin Pond was preserved and was developed into a park It can be theorized that Deokjin Pond's latent character has made it possible for it to adapt to the changes it has undergone throgh the years. In this study, the placeness of Deokjin Park is determined by examining its role in the adaptation process. Placeness can be determined by examining the objective character of a certain environment and the subjective experience related to it. For this paper, documents about the history of Deokjin Park were examined so that the facts related to it could be established. In addition, a number of Jeonju citizens were asked about their memories of Deokjin Park since memories reveal people's subjective experiences. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Deokjin Pond is an ideal space for Feng Shui. It is a holy place because the tomb of the founder of the Chosun Dynasty is close to it. In addition, it has scenic value as it is part of the Jeonju Palkyoung (eight sceneries). To this day, we can see people washing their hair in the pond, proof that Deokjin Pond is still the subject of folk beliefs. When Korea was under Japanese rule, Deokjin Pond became Deokjin Park because of its ideal location, scenic value, and grand possibilities as an amusement center. Over the years, though its scenic value decreased after the death of its pine trees. Jeonju City, however, was able to revive the park's charm though a series of renovation projects and through the addition of several facilities. Deokjin Park is now surrounded by many cultural buildings. The significance of Deokjin Park can be expected to evolve with these changes. This study helps to predict the future of Deokjin Park and to elucidate the importance of landscape architecture from the point of view of an "evolving place."
The rebuilding method for old apartment housing blocks has merits of providing new buildings and larger private living spaces. However, it causes many serious urban problems, such as shortage of infrastructure capacity, traffic congestion, reduction of building life, and deterioration of open space quality. Nowadays, remodeling is accepted as a way of overcoming such negative effects of the rebuilding method. This study focuses on the various techniques of remodeling. The results of this research are as follows; First, old apartment blocks provide poor level of service in general, so they have problems of bad accessibility, deterioration of facilities, and degraded landscape. In many cases, there is a hindrance from walking freely and security problem due to illegal privatization of public spaces. Second, various remodeling techniques are required to meet residents' different needs. The residents of apartment housing value private space above public space, and show low level of willingness to pay cost for remodeling. Third, based on these findings, some remodeling techniques are suggested - integration of a space to another, expansion of spaces, connection of spaces, reuses of roofs and walls, relocation and renovation of paths between buildings, and so on.
The new technology with Wireless LAN (WLAN) is implemented to the railway system, which is attached importance to safety and reliability. Railway control system based on WLAN that is called CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) is being developed by the advanced nations in this field and The system is applied to a new train line and a renovation for outworn equipment. The CBTC system has many merits about increase of capacity, reduction of headway and cost reduction etc.. Therefore, that is come into spotlight to the advanced railway company and the companies have being developed the system. So, we have developed the CBTC system for standardization and localization of the railway signal system.

Urban renovation projects (reconstruction and redevelopment) have a longer licensing period than general housing projects, and many consultations with the licensing authorities require expertise. Most of the members of the union do not have basic knowledge of the maintenance business, so they have a lot of authority to promote smooth business Is entrusted to the union leader. However, contrary to the original purpose entrusted by the members, it is easy to find a case where the business is suspended because the union leader is exposed to corruption for the private interests of the union, and the members' disputes could not be resolved. In order to overcome this risk, the problem of the maintenance project was found through a questionnaire survey composed of practical experts, and a solution was presented through the KCSI evaluation model. This study mentioned the necessity of a responsible CM that can make independent business decisions without interference from the union, rather than a management-type CM limited to the cooperative's work assistance. In order to promote the construction industry's national role, it was necessary to revitalize responsible CM, so six practical alternatives were proposed.

The purpose of the present study is to provide policy implications for successful development of the metropolitan economic zone in Korea followed by in-depth case studies on the US Metropolitan Economic Region. This study looked into diverse experiences of the US mega regions investigating their key strategies, requirements and standards, etc. Urban areas in the US are designated based on CBSA, a standard for statistical area since 1950. The US has a clear standard to define rural and suburban area and is trying to reflect urban structural changes including suburbanization. The US annexation system is relatively simple to operate. Furthermore, the system helps the growth of rural areas by gradually incorporating rural areas into urban areas. We found that action plans of the US mega regions facilitate strategic growth and development for balanced territorial development, incorporating multi-dimensional and comprehensive approaches. We also found that the US mega regions are designated with regard to the local natures. Couple of policy implications were extracted from the US experiences. First, since the construction of mega regions in Korea concerns less on the inter-regional connections with other regions, we need to incorporate diverse standards to divide the regions with respect to the spatial and local characteristics. Second, local governments should collaborate with each other for successful economic development of the metropolitan economic zones. Administrative districts renovation can be a immediate and effective solution to facilitate the collaboration. We recommended to consider consolidating administrative areas to construct successful metropolitan economic zones.
Space extension and the increase of the number of households are helpful to raise business value of the remodeling through the renovation of apartment houses that is required by residents of new cities and large-scaled apartment. However, in the case of accepting this demand, it could have a bad influence on the landscape of a complex in terms of the structure of apartment houses and the safety of construction and urban planning, and a problem occurs in the aspect of fairness for reconstruction. For the study, the current status related to the remodeling system through laws, related articles since 2000 and research data was analyzed. In addition, the individual quantitative analysis was conducted in the four aspects to judge whether households expansion for remodeling is plausible:1) Statistical data to comprehend the changes of population and social structure 2) Survey data of floor space index and the building-to-land ratio of new cities at the intial stage for the review of the effect of architectural planning and urban environment 3) Surveys of experts on structural safety in order to judge whether the demand of expansion is accepted or not. 4) Quantitative analysis of each item to compare fairness with reconstruction. Therefore, this study is intended to understand problems of the remodeling system that is currently operated. Moreover, it will be further reviewed that the expansion of households is feasible through the permission of expansion and it will be discussed that the revitalization of the apartment remodeling has a positive impact on the residential environment.

This paper discusses the character of communication among participating stakeholders in the Improving Alley Landscapes in Residential Neighborhoods project. The participation of diverse stakeholders in conventional urban redevelopment is considered to delay and complicate the progress of a project. However, in urban regeneration, a field-oriented operating system and collaboration between diverse stakeholders is considered critical to building a sustainable community. A stakeholder is defined as "a person or organization that can influence decision-making or be influenced by it." This paper uses a case study to examine what types of stakeholders participate and what communicative processes and ideas are shared among them. Six neighborhoods were selected out of a total of 26 of Seoul's 2014 Improving Alley Landscapes project. This research was developed through interviews and a review of the literature. The character of communication among stakeholders in the case study is as follows. Firstly, the administration initiated the project but did not show leadership. This was caused by a gap in understanding about the project between city and borough administrations, Further, the city administration lacked experience with projects that placed an emphasis on fieldwork. Tongjand and Banjang, at ancillary institutions, acted as spokespersons and helped people in the community to understand the administrative process. However, because they led communication and used personal relationships to ensure they communicated effectively, the communication process had limits from the perspective of democratic process. Diverse stakeholders expressed their opinions in the public sphere and communicated about them using diverse media. Finally, experts produced the output, facilitated communication, and mediated in conflicts. Because new experts acted as facilitators and mediators, there was a great deal of trial and error. This project has particular significance: Seoul's city government deals with urban space rather than parks and green space, which are limited by boundaries; and whether "green" can be used for urban renovation was tested by several landscape architects, who sought to identify a new role in urban renovation, namely, the role of landscape and landscape architecture. However, the project has some limitations, including an insufficiently detailed project plan, a lack of common understanding among stakeholders, and a short timeframe. A number of stakeholders overcame these limitations to a certain degree. Officials of the Borough and the Dong managed the project and resolved civil complaints. Experts provided special information, and contributed to the design and construction of improvements.

It is time to put our top priority on the computer education to cope with rapid chage in technology and expansion of information. With 6th educational reform plan, from 1995 computer courses will be offered as elective subjects in the most of middle schools. Followings are the suggestions for the educational specification for the renovated computer classroom for middle school in the urban area. 1) Purpose of computer classroom, 2) Size of computer classroom, 3) Curriculum design and class hour, 4) Facilities, 5) Environments, 6) Equipment and media(lighting and electric system, acoustical treatment, cooling/heating and ventilation system), 7) Activity area(Teacher workstation, Student workstation, Support area, Display surface). For the promotion of computer education, the legal, financial and administrative supports by concerned authorities should be established ahead of discussing the contents of computer education.
