This paper conducted a survey of residents and public officials for the projects to make smart-city plans of Geumsan-gun. In introduction, several domestic and foreign cases related to smart-city projects were Investigated. To initiate the smart-city project of Geumsan-gun, the local status of Geumsan-gun was investigated regarding various aspects of natural, social, urban environment and smart-city facilities. The results of this survey are as follows: Overall, more than half of survey respondents said they had satisfaction of their housing quality. Several problems in their residence areas, such as insufficient welfare systems, shortage of parking spaces, industrial infrastructure, were reported. Meanwhile, the survey result indicated that tourism and leisure facilities, health care support systems, industries promote the economy and job market of the area. An interview with public official is also important to select the relevant meaningful projects and regional issues. Three models for each spatial unit were proposed in Geumsan-gun based on the natural, agricultural, and geographical environment. In result, the three smart-city models are categorized as urban type(large area), complex city type(medium area), and smart village type(small area)
To determine the status of infection caused by intestinal parasites among children and adolescents living in Legaspi city, the Philippines, we performed a small survey by fecal examination for helminth ova and protozoan cysts with formalin-ether concentration method. Of the 64 examinees, the infection rate was 78.1%. The infection rates of primary school children, preschool children and adolescents were 95.5%, 64.7% and 87.5%, respectively. The infection rate in urban areas was 56%, and 92.3% in rural areas. The infection rates were 51% with Trichuris trichiura, 40% with Ascaris lumbricoides, 23.4% with hookworm, 15.6% with Iodamoeba butschlii, 14.1% with Endolinax nana, 9.4% with Entamoeba coli and 7.8% with Giardia lamblia. There were 33 cases with multiple infection (51.6%). Mixed infection with more than 3 parasites was observed in 15 cases, all of them being children and adolescents living in rural areas. By this survey, it was conjectured that helminthic infection is prevalent among children and adolescents in Legaspi, Philippines. This study has been performed to analyze housing status in later life. In this study, 234 Koreans aged 60 or more were interviewed for their current housing status. The results are drawn as follows: 1. The household size does not highly fluctuate in later life; it ranges from three to five overall. But there is a trend difference over region; The household size continuously increases until 70's in urban area, but it shows increase & decrease changes over five-year intervals. 2. The number of bedrooms slightly ranges from 3- to 3.8 over urban and rural areas without noticeable trend for age intervals. 3. Use of indoor area has regional difference; It ranges from 28 to 40 pyoung in urban area, but it does more widely form 27.7 to 50 in rural area. 4. There is a most significant region effect on structure type for the elderly; For the urban elderly, proportion of those living in single detached dwelling consistently decreases as age increases. For the rural elderly on the other hand, the rate of those living in single detached dwelling sharply increases in their 70's and the rate reaches 85.7%. 5. For the ownership trend, more than 70% of the elderly are home owners at the age 60-64, but the rate continuously decreases in later life stage while the rate of those living in their children-owned home increases.
Objectives: To examine the regional mortality differences in The Republic of Korea according to geographic location. Methods: All 232 administrative districts of the Republic of Korea in 1998 were studied according to their geographic locations by dividing each district into three categories; "metropolis," "urban," and "rural". Crude mortality rates for doth sexes from total deaths as well as the three major causes of death in Korea (cardiovascular disease, cancer, and external causes) were calculated with raw data from the "1998 report on the causes of death statistics" and resident registration data. Standardized mortality ratios (SMR) were calculated using the indirect standardization method. Poisson regression analyses were performed to examine the effects of geographic locations on the risk of death. To correct for the socioeconomic differences of each region, the percentage of old ($\geq$ 65 years old) population, the number of privately owned cars per 100 population, and per capita manufacturing production industries were included in the model. Results: Most SMRs were the lowest in the metropolis and the highest in the rural areas. These differences were more prominent in men and in deaths from external causes. In deaths from cancer in women, the rural region showed the lowest SMR. In Poisson regression analysis after correcting for regional socioeconomic differences, the risk of death from all causes significantly increased in both urban (OR=1.111) and rural (OR=1.100) regions, except for rural women, compared to the metropolis region. In men, the rural region showed higher risk (OR=1.180) than the urban region (OR=1.l51). For cardiovascular disease and cancer, significant differences were not found between geographic locations, except in urban women for cardiovascular disease (OR=1.151) and in rural women for cancer (OR=0.887), compared to metropolis women. In deaths from external causes, the risk ratios significantly increased in both urban and rural regions and an increasing tendency from the metropolis to the rural region was clearly observed in both sexes. Conclusions: Regional mortality differences according to geographic location exist in The Republic of Korea and further research and policy approaches to reduce these differences are needed. to reduce these differences are needed.
Cities of China have been expanding rapidly during the last 10 years and the living environment of urban population developed highly making little difference with the developed nations. However, in the case of rural area, situation is totally different from the urban area. There are some cases where the quality of life in rural areas is retreating compared to the past. Agrarian cultures of the past are remained in the rural area with only older generations and no younger generations. The difference between the rural and the urban and the movement to the cities are increasing in a rapid speed. This led to the recognition of potential danger that lies on the agricultural societies which can demolish the economic development's sustainability. Therefore, in this study, basic information about the current Chinese elderly's house circumstances and to build new houses suited for the older generations will be provided. This can not only enhance the quality of the elder citizen's life, but also can be a meaningful research for the ideal construction of future Chinese agriculture.
Rural areas have been faced with various problems such as aging and population decline, and in these circumstances, the activation of local communities is suggested as a solution. Agricultural producer organizations are a powerful means of maintaining rural society. The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of agricultural community activities by region by comparing the status of organization and activities and analyzing Location Quotient(LQ) based on the regional survey data in the 2015 census of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. As the results of the analysis, it was found that 38.35% of villages participated in economic organizations and 32.22% of villages were having urban-rural exchange activities. The crop clubs were actively operated in the Gyeongsangbuk province, and other economic organizations were organized in Jeju, Haenam-gun, and Dangjin-si more than other regions. And the urban-rural exchange activities were found in Chungcheongnam province mainly. The results of detailed LQ analysis by organization and activity showed that specialized regions for each community or activity were different. These results could be used for regional planning or the establishment of strategies for community activation.
This study was conducted to compare the dietary factors which influence on the bone status of 28 women in urban and 30 women in rural area. Urinary excretion of hydroxyproline(Hpr) and Calcium(Ca) were measured as biological markers of bone resorption. Mean daily intake levels of total protein, animal protein, total calcium, calcium, calcium from milk and milk products, animal calcium, Ca / P ratio by 24 hr recall method were significantly higher in urban women. However, mean daily sodium(Na) intake levels were not significantly different between two groups. Ca Index score and Na Index score by food frequency methods were also significantly higher in urban than in rural subjects. While urinary Ca excretion elves of two groups were similar, Na excretion levels were significantly higher in rural women. Mean urniary levels of Ca / creatinine(cr) and Hpr / cr as bone status index were within normal range and not significantly different between two groups. However, prevalence of poor bone status as assessed by hydroxyproline was higher in rural women. Na Index, urinary Ca excretion and Ca / cr ratio were significantly correlated with bone status(Hpr / cr) in urban women, while only age was related to bone status in rural women. These demonstrated that high Na intake results in increased urinary excretion of Na and Ca and could cause bone resorption. Multiple regression analysis indicated that Na Index score and age have greater effect than other variables in urban women and only age has greater effect in rural women.
Urban agriculture, which promotes communication in vulnerable classes and the formation of social networks has been gaining attention with an emphasis on healthy city, elderly-friendly city, safe city and happy city as future keywords about urban life. There is a growing interest in public awareness in many areas such as health, society, economy, and ecology. As an attempt to improve the diversity of urban gardens, this study begins with collecting suitable crops for urban gardens from "Imwongyeongjeji (林園經濟志)," an encyclopedia written by Yoo-Ku Seo, a scholar in the 18-19th century. Out of those recorded in "Gwanhyuji (灌畦志)," 128 kinds of crops with linkage of the historical achievements of the realists who gave their priority to public welfare were selected and 53 crops which had traditionality, historicality, health functionality and popularity were finally selected. The properties (cold, warm, clam) of the selected crops were evenly distributed, and there was no crop that was hot and cool. In addition, the number of crops that have a sweet taste was the highest, followed by spicy and bitter, but there was no salty vegetable, which can be attributed to the fact that 12 namuls (wild vegetables) that grow in seas were excluded in this study since they were not suitable for urban gardens. Urban gardens can be transformed from those that focus on primary production and secondary consumption activities into a new resource that offers educational and traditional values by applying humanities to urban agriculture as a content resource in the era of cultural consilience and convergence. It is expected to satisfy urban residents' intellectual and participatory needs and to enhance the diversity and utility of urban gardens by applying traditional knowledge to a new model of urban agriculture. We hope that further research will be conducted to develop new types and models of urban agriculture going forward.
The purpose or this study is to simulate spatially the urban expansion phenomena with a cellular automata (CA) technique using GIS. A study area, Suwon city, was selected for test of model verification and application with the classified land-use maps of three data years: 1986, 1996, and 2000. The urbanized potential maps were generated with seven criteria of one geographic factor (slope of land), and six accessibility factors (time distances from city, national road, Seoul, station, and built-up boundary), considering their weighting values, which were optimized by WSM (weighted scenario method for intensity order) combined a ranking method and a AHP technique. The optimized weighting values at the urban expansion between 1986 and 1996 were applied to verify the CA model for the other expansion between 1996 and 2000. The results of model application showed that urban sprawl phenomena of the urban expansion toward rural area can be simulated spatially and temporally with several boundary conditions considering various scenarios for the criteria and parameters of the model. Ultimately, this study can contribute to reference data for land-use planning of urban fringe areas.
The purpose of this study is to extract deficiency areas as basic data of policies and projects in the future Living SOC introduction and planning. In order to extract living SOC deficient areas, accessibility data for living SOC and density data for main users by facility were overlapped, focusing on the living SOC indicators presented in the National Urban Regeneration Basic Policy. According to the analysis of accessibility of the Iksan-si Living SOC, the gap between deficiency in urban and township areas was large in common with the accessibility of the village and local base units. As a result of overlapping life SOC accessibility data and density data analysis of the main users by facility, areas where accessibility is weak but not inhabited by the main users of each facility were extracted. It is meaningful that more accurate deficient areas can be extracted by simultaneously utilizing the density distribution of the main users, rather than simply accessing the facilities.
