Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the displacement of artificial tooth of monolithic complete denture manufactured by milling and 3D printing method in which the denture base and the artificial teeth are simultaneously made. Materials and methods: Twelve upper and lower complete dentures for each were made by milling and 3D printing method. Group Up and Group Lp are a group of upper and lower dentures made by printing, and Group Um and Group Lm are denture groups made by milling. Group Uc and Group Lc are is a group of finally designed upper and lower dentures respectively. Measurements were performed between both central incisors (AB, ab), both canines (CD, cd), both first molars (EF, ef), between an incisor and a first molar (AE, ae), and between incisor and lingual point (AG, ag) for each upper and lower denture. Results: AG and ag value between printed dentures and original ones as well as between milled dentures and original ones showed a statistically significant difference (One-way ANOVA, P<.05) in both lower and upper monolithic dentures. In the lower monolithic ones, ab, cd and ef value revealed a significant difference between Group Lp and Group Lm (One-way ANOVA, P<.05). Conclusion: Dentures made using milling or 3D printers revealed statistically significant difference compared with those of original data. However, it showed clinically very accurate reproducibility.
Orthodontic treatment of cleft patients is difficult as the growth is different from that of normal ones. So it is very important to know the characteristic features of the craniofacial morphology and growth pattern in unilateral cleft lip and palate patients. The materials for this study consisted of 55 normal males and 50 unilateral cleft lip and palate ones who received cheiloplasty and palatoplasty previously. The cleft subjects were divided into 4 groups according to their ages kto find out the growth pattern of hard and soft tissue, and to compare the features with those of normal ones. Each cephalogram analysed by McNamara method and others. The obtained results were as follows 1. In the unilateral cleft lip and palate subjects, forward growth of the maxilla was smaller than that of normal ones from 9 years old. So the maxilla was retruded. The maxillary incisors were severely retruded in all age groups. 2. The mandibular overall length and its anteroposterior position did not show any significant differences between two groups. But the height of ramus was very short and the mandible had vertical growth tendency to compensate for undergrowth of the maxilla in cleft subjects after 12 years of age. 3. Horizontal growth of the soft tissue in middle face was smaller than that of any other facial region from 9 years old. The vertical growth rate of upper lip was decreased as growing old. 4. In cleft subjects, the upper and lower facial component angle and the facial convexity angle were large. So their facial profile changed to straight or concave as growing old.

Traumatic injuries in the young permanent dentition are common, but root fractures, defined as fractures involving dentin, cementum and pulp, are relatively uncommon. Appropriate management of root fracture involves repositioning the coronal portion of the tooth fragment and firm immobilization with a splint for 2 to 3 month. Root canal treatment should not be initiated until the sign of necrosis or resorption are apparent because in most cases, the apical fragments maintain their vitality. The following case report describes a patient with root fractures injured three times over the period of 7 years. The results, clinically and radiographically, were acceptable, but long term periodic evaluation is required.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate facial form, arch form and tooth form in young adults to determine if a correlation exists. 115 subjects who had healthy natural maxillary incisors and good occlusion consisted of 71 males and 44 females ranging from 20-30 years of age. Facial photographs and, intraoral photographs of upper anterior teeth and dental casts of upper jaws were taken to demonstrate facial form, dental arch form and tooth form. Form analysis is determined by comparing the ratio of the widths of the faces, dental archs and the teeth. The Chi-square test of independence between facial form, arch form and tooth form, was executed and the significance level determined. The results were as follows : 1. The distribution of facial forms was 66.1% square-tapering, 27.0% square, 5.2% ovoid, 2% tapering-square. 2. The distribution of tooth forms was 65.2% ovoid, 20.0% square-tapering, 11.3 % tapering-square, 3.5 % square. 3. The distribution of arch forms was 50.4 % square-tapering, 48.7 % tapering, 0.9 % reverse tapering-square. 4. There was no large differences in the distribution of facial forms, dental arch forms and tooth-forms between male and female. 5. No relationship existed between the tooth form and the facial form. 6. No relationship existed between the facial form and the dental arch form. 7. No relationship existed between the tooth form and the dental arch form. 8. This gave the impression that dental arch form and facial form could not be used as a true index in tooth selection.
The alveolar bone remodeling is essential in tooth movement by orthodontic forces. The collagen and chondroitin sulfate are acting as an important roles in bone remodeling. This study was performed to measure out the quantity of the collagen and chondroitin sulfate in the alveolar bone of rats applied by experimental orthodontic forces. The 150 Sprague-Dawley male rats were divided into the $PGE_2$ treated group, indomethacin treated group and the normal group. A 80gm force rubber band was used as a orthodontic appliance between upper incisors and right upper 1st molar, and left side of experimental rats with no appliance was regarded as a control side. The samples of alveolar bones were obtained from pressure and tension sites in all three groups. respectively, and in control sides, too. The results were as follows. 1. The change in total collagen remains stable in both pressure and tension sites of all three groups, compared with control side by the time consuming. 2. The change in soluble collagen showed the most highest level in tension site, lowest level in pressure site of $PGE_2$ treated group in 5th. experimental day. 3. The change in chondroitin sulfate showed the most highest level in pressure site, lowest level in tension site of $PGE_2$ treated group in 5th. experimental day. 4. In indomethacin treated group, the change of soluble collagen and chondroitin sulfate showed small range of variance compared with $PGE_2$ treated and normal group.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinically and histopathologically the effects to the periodontal tissue in rats after Cyclosporin A (CsA) administration and to determine whether there is a relationship between dosage of CsA or blood CsA level and the seventy of gingival overgrowth in rats. Twenty 6-week-old Sprauge-Dawley Fats were randomized into 4groups. The control group received olive oil only and the test group received daily CsA in olive oil via gastric feeding for 6weeks at a 3,10, and 30mg/kg. Rats were weighed to evaluate the systemic effect of drug and stone models were made from alginate impressions of upper and lover anterior region at 2 week interval. On completion of offal CsA administration, blood were collected and blood CsA levels were quantitated by TDxFLx analyzer. Rats were sacrificed an6 their upper and lower jaws were removed together with the surrounding gingiva and soft tissue for light microscopic examination. The results were as follows : 1. The weight gain of GsA-treated rats was much less than of the control group and central incisors were gradually displaced and separated in the test groups. 2. The extensive fibrovascular proliferation and scattered inflammatoy infiltrates in an edematous stroma were observed in enlarged gingiva of CsA-treated rats. 3. The increase in buccolingual, mesiodistal dimension of the anterior teeth and vertical height of the interdental papilla showed dose-dependent manner in CsA-treated rats. 4. Significant positive correlation exists between blood CsA level and the severity of gingival overgrowth in anterior teeth. This result indicates that the severity of gingival enlargement in CsA treated rats is correlated with dosage of CsA administration and blood CsA level.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to determine the average facial proportions and mandibular movement capacity of 316 first-year dental students who carefully recorded them on each other. MATERIALS AND METHODS. This early exacting clinical experience was closely supervised by the authors in Columbus, Ohio during 1969-70. Five vertical and six horizontal distances were measured on each subject's face. An ala-tragus line and an occlusal line were drawn on the left side of the face to determine if these two lines were parallel. Measurements of mandibular movements involved maximum normal and hinge opening at the incisors and maximum amounts of right, left lateral and protrusive excursions of the mandible. RESULTS. The ala width and distance between the tips of upper right and left canine cusps averaged (35.2 mm and 34.8 mm) but with very large individual variations. The distance between ala to occlusal plane lines was 29.9 mm at the tragus and 31.3 mm near the ala. The angle between orbitale and ala-tragus averaged 13.6 degrees. CONCLUSION. The upper lip length was the most variable and the distance between the pupils was the most stable of the eleven facial measurements. The ala-tragus line and the occlusal plane lines were for all practical purposes parallel. Maximum jaw opening averaged 51.2 mm which was 3.0 times larger than maximal hinge opening of 17.2 mm. The maximum right plus left side jaw excursions (9.2 and 9.4 mm) totaled 18.6 mm, 2.3 times more than the 8.0 mm mean maximum forward protrusion.

Objective: To investigate the effects of maxillary orthodontic expansion on the alveolar bone tissue in adult patients treated with aligners by using cone-beam computed tomography. Methods: Thirty patients (22 females and 8 males; mean age: 36.3 years) were treated with Invisalign® aligners. Cone-beam computed tomography and digital models were obtained before (T0) and after (T1) upper arch expansion. The bone thicknesses in the cervical, middle, and apical areas of the incisors, canines, premolar, and first molars were buccally and palatally measured, totaling 96 areas and 2,880 measurements. The buccolingual inclinations and transverse measurements of the teeth were obtained from digital models to correlate them with the bone changes. The statistical tests used were Student's t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation tests (p < 0.05). Results: From the 96 areas evaluated, 84 revealed an increase or stability in the alveolar bone thickness and twelve displayed significant bone loss. Bone changes did not correlate with the tooth inclination and transverse measurements. Conclusions: Within the limitation of the present study, mild levels of upper arch expansion obtained with Invisalign® aligners in adult patients did not result in any clinically significant loss of alveolar bone thickness.
The objective of this study was to evaluate some clinical aspect of the crown inclination in Korean's naturally occuring optimal occlusion, and to statistically compare the crown inclination at Andrews' FA points group and another bracket slot level group based on marginal ridges. The materials consisted of study models of 30 patients (14; Korean's males, 16; Korean's females) who have nonorthodontic normal occlusion. The results were as follows; 1. Mean, standard deviation, range of clinical inclination in the Andrews' FA points and another bracket slot level were obtained. 2. Statistically difference between Andrews' FA points group and bracket slot level group based on marginal ridge was non significant (p > 0.05). But standard deviation and range in FA points group was more stability than marginal ridge group. 3. A lingual crown inclination at FA points in the upper posterior teeth existed (canines through molars). 4. The lingual crown inclination at FA points in the lower dentition progressively increased from the incisors through the second molars.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the growth and development of tooth germ and dental arch related to the bone growth during the fetal period. From 70 maxillae and 61 mandibles of the fetus aged 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 months, X-ray films were taken and measured. The results were as follows; 1. There was remarkable bone growth in the anterior and posterior area of palatum osseum, that were the intetior portion of both deciduous canines anteriorly and the intero-posterior portion of both deciduous second molars posteriorly, where there was active bone growth and radiate formation of bony trabeculae was found. 2. The Growth of anterior tooth germ was greater than that of posterior tooth germ, so anterior tooth germs were crowded. Especially in maxilla, the tooth germs of deciduous lateral incisors were located inside of dental arch and the tooth germs of deciduous canines were located outside of dental arch. 3. Crowding amount increased with the fetal age because the growth of tooth germs was greater than that of jaw bone. 4. In the growth of upper dental arch, the increase of width was greater than that of length. 5. There was proportional relationship between the area of Palatal Trapezoid and the fetal age.
