  • A failure or degradation of reactor upper head penetration is a troublesome problem at Nuclear Power Plants. A flaw in the reactor upper head penetration can result in unplanned plant shutdown for repair, and cause serious economic losses on the plants. Consequently, a detection of flaws is a matter of more importance. Until now, only the base metal, not including J-groove weld, in reactor upper head penetration has been inspected in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a and ASME code case N-729-1 requirements. Accordingly, it is rather difficult to detect manufacturing defects and repair defects in J-groove weld. This paper presents a case study on the application of Time of Flight Diffraction UT technique to examine the J-groove weld in reactor head penetration using reactor head penetration mockup with artificial flaws. We expect that this study result will offer a way to understand the non-destructive examination technology for J-groove weld in reactor upper head penetration.

  • Motor paralysis by herpes zoster is rare. The incidence of herpetic motor involvement was reported to be between 0.5-31%. This case was reported to evaluate the effects of oriental medicine therapy on vocal cord paralysis and upper limb motor paralysis caused by herpes zoster. The subject was a 48-year-old man who suffering from hoarseness, right upper limb paralysis, right upper limb weakness, right post ear pain, headache. After our treatment, clinical symptoms were improved and VAS score significantly decreased. This study suggests that herbal medicine and acupuncture complex therapy is probably effective in the treatment of vocal cord paralysis and upper limb motor paralysis.

  • Objective: The purpose of this case study is to show a case of severe neurogenic ptosis due to midbrain infarction improved by acupuncture and Herb-med. Method: This case study has been carried out for a case of ptosis due to midbrain infarction which had been hospitalized at the Bundang CHA Oriental Medical Hospital. We evaluate through Levator function test and measurement of MRD and the distance between upper and lower eyelid. Results: Levator function increase 3.5mm and distance between upper and lower eyelid increase 4mm more than before. The degree of ptosis turned 'fair' state from 'poor' state. Conclusions: We suggest to treat ptosis due to midbrain infarction with acupuncture and Herb-med meaning conservative therapy and would like to research oriental medical treatment plan for the further treatment.

  • Magnesium alloy is expected to be widely used for mobile electronic appliances as well as automobile parts for its lightweight and EMI-shielding characteristics. In the present investigation, a Note-PC upper case made of magnesium alloy AZ31 sheet was developed by using the press forming technology at elevated temperature. Considering the press forming process and the formability of magnesium alloy sheet, the case shape and the press die was designed. The optimum forming condition was experimentally examined. Then the as-received magnesium alloy sheet was press-formed into the designed case shape under the optimum forming condition.

  • A rare case of a fused teeth on the side of upper left third molar was observed from a 28 years old Korean male. The characteristics were as follows: 1)The upper third molar fusrd with the suppernumerary tooth .2)The crown part of the fused teeth were separated and the root were fused. 3)On the x-ray finding. the pulp chamber was two , but it had only one pulp canal.

  • Pulmonary arteriovenous fistula is a rare congenital vascular malformation resulting from abnormal capillary development with incomplete formation of vascular septum normally dividing the primitive connections between the venous and arterial plexuses. Recently we have experienced a case of the bilateral pulmonary arteriovenous fistula in 7 years-old female patient. On admission, clinical manifestations were cyanosis of lips, clubbing and cyanosis of digits, and exertional dyspnea. The PO2 in arterial blood gas analysis was 43.3mmHg. In left upper and right lower lobe pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas were confirmed by bilateral pulmonary angiography. Left upper lobectomy and wedge resection of right lower lobe were performed respectively. Postoperative results were good.

  • Congenital lobar emphysema is one of the abnormal development of pulmonary parenchyme which may cause respiratory distress in infant. This disease is an unusual condition barely mentioned before 1949, and only 166 cases were reported till 1967 in English literature. This report describes a 13 months old girl who had a congenital left upper lobar emphysema. The left upper lobectomy was the operation for this case and the postoperative course was not eventful, and have been in good condition upto now.

  • Optimal stopping problem without recall from a multivariate distribution is solved by using the concept of an equilibrium point which was introduced by J. Nash. The solution is derived for the two cases: 1. The case where the observation cost C is positive and the given upper bound K on the number of observations is infinite. 2. The case where the observation cost C is zero and the given upper bound K on the number of observations is finite.

  • Human bite injury to the eyelid is extremely rare and poses a significant challenge in surgical reconstruction. We report an extremely rare case of human bite injury to the eyelid in a 43-year-old male with approximately 60% full thickness loss of the upper eyelid and 80% to 90% full thickness loss of the lower eyelid and its successful reconstruction using the local advancement cheek flap.

  • Traumatic asphyxia is a distinctive clinical syndrome characterized by cervicofacial cyanosis and edema, bilateral subconjuctival hemorrhage, and multiple petechiae of the face, neck, and upper part of the chest after a severe compressive crush injury of the thorax or of the upper part of the abdomen. The pathophysiologic mechanism of traumatic asphyxia is reflux of blood from the heart retrograde through the valveless superior vena cava and the great veins of the head and neck by severe compression of the thorax or the abdomen. We experienced one case of the traumatic asphyxia, and its clinical features are discussed.
