  • This review paper introduces recent results on interference management for full-duplex cellular systems. Interference management techniques for uplink-downlink cellular networks are frist introduced, which are closely related to those for full-duplex cellular systems. Self-interference suppression method for full-duplex radios and the corresponding modeling of full-duplex cellular systems are then explained. Even if self-interference is perfectly suppressed, there exists a new source of interference between full-duplex users for full-duplex cellular systems. Therefore, management of such user-to-user interference is of crucially importance to improve the capacity of full-duplex cellular systems. Recently, new interference management techniques for achieving the optimal sum degrees of freedom of full-duplex cellular systems have been proposed. In this review paper, these optimal interference management techniques are mainly introduced.

  • In this paper, satellite data link waveform is proposed which is based on the waveform of Link-16 but LDPC code is studied instead of CCSK code in order to be optimized to satellite nonlinear channel environment and transmission characteristics. And the DSM (Demux, Selective CH switch, and Mux) transponder structure is suggested which can remove all of the jamming signal out of the transmission signal band and convert uplink hopping frequency to desired ones of downlink. The results of BER and anti-jamming performance analysis shows that the required Eb/No and processing gain in the worst case partial band jammer of the proposed waveform are 2.5dB and 52dB respectively and the anti-jamming capacity improvement of DSM transponder is maximum 2dB.

  • Since the TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) system is based on TDD (Time Division Duplexing), the uplink and downlink can be allocated asymmetrically according to the traffic e.g. Web browsing. Although this asymmetric allocation can increase the frequency utilization, it may cause time slot opposing, which implies the time slot is assigned in opposing direction between cells. The time slot opposing can generate significant interference between cells, which results in severe performance degradation. In the paper, a novel dynamic channel allocation (DCA) is proposed in the TD-SCDMA system, to mitigate the impact of time slot opposing considering smart antenna. When the smart antenna is applied in the system, the inter-cell interference is largely affected by beam pattern and beam direction between neighboring cells. Therefore, the time slot opposing and smart antenna should be considered together in the DCA. The intensive simulations show that the proposed scheme can improve the system capacity compared to the conventional DCA schemes.

  • In order to maximize spectrum efficiency and data rate MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) is adopted to wireless system. OFDM-based WiMAX and LTE accommodate MIMO as mandatory technology. STC(Space Time Coding) and SM(Spatial Multiplexing) are used in downlink while in uplink C-MIMO(Collaborative MIMO) is used to improve data throughput. In this paper conventional pairing schemes, RPS(Random Pairing Scheduling) and DPS(Determinant Pairing Scheduling) are analyzed. From the analysis the performance of DPS algorithm is better than that of RPS because DPS measures orthogonal factor between paired users. However, there are potential problems such as hardware complexity and performance. To overcome the issues Power-Based Scheduling(PBS) algorithm is proposed for C-MIMO. PBS can provide higher performance compared to RPS and dramatically reduce hardware complexity compared to DPS

  • A candidate hybrid satellite and terrestrial network architecture, MSS/ATC(Mobile Satellite Service/Ancillary Terrestrial Component), is proposed for utilizing efficiently the exist MSS bands. Studies on the adjacent channel interference from the existing terrestrial mobile services and MSS/ATC itself are important to allocate a new ATC service frequency in MSS band. In this paper, we have analyzed the minimum permission power of terrestrial base station and the capacity loss with parameters of ACIR, number of MS(mobile Station) and MES(Mobile Earth Station) in uplink, and also, the capacity performance based on 1 beam and 1 cell assumption for MSS/ATC in downlink. The ACIR requirements are estimated in two MSS/ATC frequency allocation scenarios for 5 MHz and 10 MHz guard band to share spectrum with adjacent systems, and according to these ACIR requirements the service coverage and the receiver filter for ATC system should be designed in near future.

  • Kyung Hee University has been developing a CubeSat for the space science mission called SIGMA (Scientific cubesat with Instrument for Global Magnetic field and rAdiation), which includes TEPC (Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter) and a magnetometer. SIGMA has a 3-unit CubeSat, and the weight is about 3.2 kg. The main payload is TEPC which can measure the Linear Energy Transfer (LET) spectrum and calculate the equivalent dose for the complicated radiation field in the space. The magnetometer is a secondary payload using a miniaturized fluxgate magnetometer. We expect it to have a 1 nT resolution in the dynamic range of ${\pm}65535$ nT. An Attitude Control System (ACS) spins the SIGMA spacecraft 4 rpm with the spin axis perpendicular to the ecliptic plane. Full duplex communication is consists of VHF uplink and S-band and UHF downlink. In this paper, we introduce the system design and the scientific purpose of the SIGMA CubeSat mission.

  • A subcarrier allocation scheme for base station (BS), relay station (RS) and mobile station (MS) can affect the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) relay systems. In this paper, we propose a subcarrier allocation scheme with inter-cell interference and network coding in OFDMA relay systems. In the network coding zone, we consider an environment where RS can transmit a frame to BS and MS simultaneously. We divide an OFDMA frame into downlink zone, uplink zone, and network coding zone. The proposed scheme allocates subcarriers to BS, RS, and MS for each zone with consideration of inter-cell interference in OFDMA relay systems. We evaluate the performance of the proposed subcarrier allocation scheme through simulation.

  • In this paper, we introduce backscatter communication for power-limited sensors to enable long-range transmission in wireless sensor networks, and envision a way to avoid doubly near-far problem in wireless-powered communication network (WPCN) with this technology. In backscatter based WPCN, users harvest energy from both the signal broadcasted by the hybrid access point and the carrier signal transmitted by the carrier emitter in the downlink, and then transmit their own information in a passive way via the reflection of the carrier signal using frequency-shift keying modulation in the uplink. We characterize the energy-free condition and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) outage zone in backscatter based WPCN. Further, we propose backscatter based harvest-then-transmit protocol to maximize the sum-throughput of the backscatter based WPCN by optimally allocating time for energy harvesting and information transmission. Numerical results demonstrate that the backscatter based WPCN increases significantly the transmission range and diminishes greatly the SNR outage zone.

  • The feasibility conditions of interference alignment (IA) are analyzed for reverse duplex systems, in which one cell operates as downlink (DL) while the other cell operates as uplink (UL) assuming one-sid base station (BS) cooperation. Under general multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna configurations, a necessary condition and a sufficient condition for one-shot linear IA are established, i.e., linear IA without symbol or time extension. In several example networks, optimal sum degrees of freedom (DoF) is characterized by the derived necessary condition and sufficient condition. For some special class of networks, a sufficient condition is established in a more compact expression, which also yields the necessary and sufficient condition. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed IA does not only achieve larger DoF but also significantly improves the sum rate in the practical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime.

  • In this paper, we analyze the adjacent interference between WCDMA and M-WiMAX systems in the 2.6GHz Band under the SISO (Single Input Single Output) configuration. The interference scenarios are characterized into 8 scenarios with different victim and interfering links. Among the 8 scenarios, we find that the most performance loss is observed in the scenarios of victim uplink suffering interference from downlink in both systems. Besides, guard band is applied to mitigate the adjacent interference in all the scenarios. Especially, we reveal that M-WiMAX system is much more sensitive to adjacent interference than WCDMA system due to the lower transmission power. In this paper, we consider the worst interference environment, where interferers always transmit with the maximum power, a loose spectrum mask is adapted, and no additional channel fitters are equipped in both systems.
