In this paper, we focus on a question. Which is better between time-based location update method and movement-based location update method? Or, does any other method combining the two methods show better performance? For the question, we propose a hybrid location update scheme, which integrates the time-based and the movement-based methods. In the proposed scheme, a mobile terminal updates its location after n cell boundary crossing and a time interval of T, or the inverse. We derive an analytical solution for the performance of the hybrid scheme with exponential cell resident time. From the numerical analysis, we conclude that the movement-based method seems to have better performance than the time-based and hybrid methods, that is the optimal costs occur at T=0.

The navigation algorithm developed based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) sometimes diverges when the linearity between the measurements and the states is not preserved. In this study, new update conditions together with two conditions from previous study for gravity gradient referenced navigation (GGRN) were deduced for the filter performance. Also, the effect of each update conditions was evaluated imposing the various magnitudes of the database (DB) and the sensor errors. In case the DB and the sensor errors were supposed to 0.1 Eo and 0.01 Eo, the navigation performance was improved in the eight trajectories by using part of gravity gradient components that independently estimate states located within trust boundary. When applying only the components showing larger variation, around 200% of improvement was found. Even the DB and sensor error were supposed to 3 Eo, six update conditions improved performance in at least seven trajectories. More than five trajectories generated better results with 5 Eo error of the DB and the sensor. Especially, two update conditions successfully control divergence, and bounded the navigation error to the 1/10 level. However, these update conditions could not be generalized for all trajectories so that it is recommended to apply update conditions at the stage of planning, or as an index of precision of GGRN when combine with various types of geophysical data and algorithm.

The change of any element in the network is possible to cause performance degradation of the multicast network. So it is necessary to optimize the topology path through the multicast update strategy, which directly affects the performance and user experience of the overlay multicast. In view of the above, a new multicast tree update strategy based on perturbation theory Musp (Multicast Update Strategy based on Perturbation theory) is proposed, which reduces the data transmission interruption caused by the multicast tree update and improves user experiences. According to the multicast tree's elements performance and the topology structure, the Musp strategy defines the multicast metric matrix and based on the matrix perturbation theory it also defines the multicast fluctuation factor. Besides it also demonstrates the calculability of the multicast fluctuation factor presents the steps of the Musp algorithm and calculates the complexity. The experimental results show that compared with other update strategies, as for the sensitivity of the multicast fluctuation factor's energized multicast tree to the network disturbance, the maximum delay of the Musp update strategy is minimal in the case of the local degradation of network performance.
An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication networks. In this paper, we intend to improve the performance of the movement-based location update scheme which is simple to implement and shows good performance. The basic idea used in the proposed location update scheme is to avoid the location update if the mobile subscriber moves around the cell where the last location update was performed. This Is made possible by utilizing the simple movement history information. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated and compared with the movement-based location update scheme through simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed location update scheme provides the better performance compared with the movement-based location update scheme by minimizing the unnecessary location updates.

In this paper, we propose a AH LSU(Advanced Hybrid QoS Routing Link State Update) Algorithm that improves the performance of Hybrid LSU(Hybrid QoS Link State State Update) Algorithm with statistical information of flow holding time in network. AH LSU algorithm has had both advantages of LSU message control in periodic QoS routing LSU algorithm and QoS routing performance in adaptive LSU algorithm. It has the mechanism that calculate LSU message transmission priority using the flow of statistical request bandwidth and available bandwidth and include MLMR(Meaningless LSU Message Removal) mechanism. MLMR mechanism can remove the meaningless LSU message generating repeatedly in short time. We have evaluated the performance of the MLMR mechanism, the proposed algorithm and the existing algorithms on MCI simulation network. We use the performance metric as the QoS routing blocking rate and the mean update rate per link, it thus appears that we have verified the performance of this algorithm.

Routers determine routing path considering network topology and link state information for providing QoS (quality of service) guarantee. Therefore, it is important that routers know link state information to calculate routing path. However, if routers generate link state update messages inordinately, their router performance are reduced due to the process of link state update messages. On the other side, in case that link state information is not updated appropriately, route setup requests can be rejected even though there exist routes. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve router performance and evaluate the proposed algorithm performance compare with conventional algorithm by simulations.
Data Replication makes distributed system and database system improved in availability and performance. But it is difficult to keep strict consistency in data update. Existing algorithms keep strict consistency, but have problems of cost a great deal and delay time. It is to introduce hybrid update propagation algorithm which permits eager update for original copy and propagates lazy update for other copies. Hybrid update propagation algorithm also permits group update in ownership. This algorithm menages replica version in order to control group update consistency. Consistency and performance is improved by combining eager update and lazy update with group ownership. Simulation shows improvement of transaction throughput and response time depending on application and execution environment.
Based on the value of the Lagrange multiplier and the degree of constraint activeness, a new update rule is proposed for penalty parameters of the ALM method. The theoretical exposition of this suggested update rule is presented by using the algorithmic interpretation and the geometric interpretation of the augmented Lagrangian. This interpretation shows that the penalty parameters can effect the performance of the ALM method. Also, it offers a lower limit on the penalty parameters that makes the augmented Lagrangian to be bounded. This lower limit forms the backbone of the proposed update rule. To investigate the numerical performance of the update rule, it is embedded in our ALM based dynamic response optimizer, and the optimizer is applied to solve six typical dynamic response optimization problems. Our optimization results are compared with those obtained by employing three conventional update rules used in the literature, which shows that the suggested update rule is more efficient and more stable than the conventional ones.
Usually, cloud storage systems are developed based on DFS (Distributed File System) for scalability and reliability reasons. DFSs are designed to improve throughput than IO response time, and therefore, they are appropriate for batch processing jobs. Recently, cloud storage systems have been used for update intensive applications such as OLTP and so on. However, in DFSs, in-place update operations are not carefully considered. Therefore, when updates are frequent, I/O performance of DFSs are degraded significantly. DFSs with RAID techniques have been proposed to improve their performance and reliability. Their performance degradation caused by frequent update operations can be more significant. In this paper, we propose an in-place update method for DFS RAID exploiting a differential logging technique. The proposed method reduces the I/O costs, network traffic and XOR operation costs for RAID. We demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed in-place update method through various experiments.

As an alternative way to overcome the weakness of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) in hostile situation, a gravity gradient referenced navigation (GGRN) has been developed. This paper analyzed the performance of GGRN with respect to the initial errors, DB resolution as well as update rates. On the basis of simulations, it was found that the performance of GGRN is getting worse when initial errors exist but the navigation results are rapidly converged. Also, GGRN generates better results when DB resolution is higher and update rates are shorter than 20 seconds. However, it is difficult to deduce the optimal parameters for the navigation because some trajectories show better performance in case low-resolution DB is applied or long update rate is supposed. Therefore, further analysis to derive specific update conditions to improve the performance has been performed. Those update conditions would not be generalized for all cases although maximum improvement rate is over 200% in certain case. In the future, some more developments and tests on the combination of various geophysical data and/or algorithms are necessary to construct more stable and reliable navigation system.
