  • Generally many kind of phase unwrapping method are used to obtain three-dimensional feature in digital holography. Goldstein algorithm is representative method. But Goldstein algorithm has some problems. We developed a modified Goldstein algorithm that could solve the problem of Goldstein algorithm using the boundary information. Obtained three-dimensional information can be applied to 3-D contents of stereoscopic, multi-view, SMV, or holographic display.

  • Multi-wavelength holography has a better axial range than single-wavelength holography, thus allowing unambiguous phase imaging. Noise amplification is the limiting factor in multi-wavelength holography as noise is amplified by a factor equivalent to the magnification of the wavelengths. Here, we propose a new algorithm to remove noise amplification in multi-wavelength holography. The proposed method does not use phase unwrapping and removes $2{\pi}$ ambiguities. Experiments and numerical simulations indicated that the proposed method is fast, has low noise, and is useful for measuring samples with arbitrary step heights.

  • Generally, many kinds of phase unwrapping algorithm are used to obtain three-dimensional features in digital holography. The Goldstein algorithm is ra epresentative method. which requires small memory capacity and short execution time fer an unwrapping process. However, the Goldstein algorithm has some problems when the dipole residue is located at the boundary. When the opposite residues are located at the boundary and the distance between the opposite residues is longer than the boundary, an incorrect branch cut occurs and results in incorrect calculation. We have modified the Goldstein algorithm to solve the incorrect calculation problem using boundary information. We found that the modified Goldstein algorithm could resolve the Goldstein algorithm's problem.

  • White-light phase-shifting interferometry (WLPSI) is widely recognized as a standard method to measure shapes with high resolution over a long distance. In practical applications, WLPSI, however, is associated with some degree of ambiguity of its phase, which occurs due to a phase delay, which is the offset between the phase of the fringes and the fringe envelope peak position. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed for the determination of a fringe order suitable for samples in which the phase delay mainly occurs due to noise, diffraction and a steep angle. The concepts of the decouple factor and the connectivity are introduced and a method for calculating the decouple factor and the connectivity is developed. With the phase-unwrapping procedure which considers these values, it is demonstrated that our algorithm determines the correct fringe order. To verify the performance of the algorithm, a simulation was performed with the virtual step height under noise. Some specimens such as step height standard and a column spacer with a steep angle are also measured with a Mirau interference microscope, after which the algorithm is shown to be effective and robust.

  • The combination of both phase-shifting convolution and 2-bit quantization smoothing filter was used to reduce speckle noise from saw-tooth speckle fringes phase map, obtained in phase-shifting speckle interferometer. The phase-shifting convolution showed the noise reduction capability of speckle fringe without destroying edge information across 271 jump. Also, it was shown that the 2-bit quantization smoothing filter was superior to average, low-pass filter and median filter in speeding up smoothing process and enhancing SIN ratio. Finally, a path dependent unwrapping algorithm was used to unwrap a noise reduced 271 modulo speckle phasemap. semap.

  • The ESPI (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) algorithm has been simulated to calculate vibrational modes of a thin right-angled STS304 plate. The phase transformation of the reference wave of the ESPI is carried out only one time during vibration in order to clarify ESPI speckle patterns. Two dimensional vibrational modes are calculated from one ESPI pattern before vibration onset and two ESPI patterns during vibrations but with and without the phase transformation. The ESPI harmonic results are compared with those derived from the finite element method (FEM), and they agree very well. Additionally a phase unwrapping algorithm has been newly developed to derive a displacement map from an ESPI phase map.

  • By comparing the results calculated by atan() and atan2() functions, the correctly estimated region of isoclinic phase map is determined using morphological techniques. The isoclinic phase map is automatically unwrapped in the true phase range -π/2 to π/2. Demonstrations of the method on a disc and a ring under diametral compression are performed. Test results compare well with the theoretical results. Furthermore, the influences of principal stress direction and the range of isoclinic phase upon stress separation are discussed.
