  • Reliable detection of primary user activity increases the opportunity to access temporarily unused bands and prevents harmful interference to the primary system. By extracting a global decision from local sensing results, cooperative sensing achieves high reliability against multipath fading. For the effective combining of sensing results, which is generalized by a likelihood ratio test, the fusion center should learn some parameters, such as the probabilities of primary transmission, false alarm, and detection at the local sensors. During the training period in supervised learning, the on/off log of primary transmission serves as the output label of decision statistics from the local sensor. In this paper, we extend unsupervised learning techniques with an expectation maximization algorithm for cooperative spectrum sensing, which does not require an external primary transmission log. Local sensors report binary hard decisions to the fusion center and adjust their operating points to enhance learning performance. Increasing the number of sensors, the joint-expectation step makes a confident classification on the primary transmission as in the supervised learning. Thereby, the proposed scheme provides accurate parameter estimates and a fast convergence rate even in low signal-to-noise ratio regimes, where the primary signal is dominated by the noise at the local sensors.

  • In this paper, We propose an anomaly detection model using deep neural network to automate the identification of outliers of the national air pollution measurement network data that is previously performed by experts. We generated training data by analyzing missing values and outliers of weather data provided by the Institute of Environmental Research and based on the BeatGAN model of the unsupervised learning method, we propose a new model by changing the kernel structure, adding the convolutional filter layer and the transposed convolutional filter layer to improve anomaly detection performance. In addition, by utilizing the generative features of the proposed model to implement and apply a retraining algorithm that generates new data and uses it for training, it was confirmed that the proposed model had the highest performance compared to the original BeatGAN models and other unsupervised learning model like Iforest and One Class SVM. Through this study, it was possible to suggest a method to improve the anomaly detection performance of proposed model while avoiding overfitting without additional cost in situations where training data are insufficient due to various factors such as sensor abnormalities and inspections in actual industrial sites.

  • We propose a new algorithm to generate additional training patterns using the brain-style information processing algorithm, that is, supervised and unsupervised learning models. This will be useful in the case that we do not have enough number of training patterns because of limitation such as time consuming, economic problem, and so on. We adopt the independent component analysis as an unsupervised model for generating exempalr patterns and multilayer perceptions as supervised models for verifying usefulness of the generated patterns. After statistical analysis of the proposed pattern generation algorithm, we verify successful operations of our algorithm through simulation of handwritten digit recognition with various numbers of training patterns.

  • In this study, we propose a crack detection method using limited data with a U-Net based image inpainting technique that is a modified unsupervised anomaly detection method. Concrete cracking occurs due to a variety of causes and is a factor that can cause serious damage to the structure in the long term. In general, crack investigation uses an inspector's visual inspection on the concrete surfaces, which is less objective in judgment and has a high possibility of human error. Therefore, a method with objective and accurate image analysis processing is required. In recent years, the methods using deep learning have been studied to detect cracks quickly and accurately. However, when the amount of crack data on the building or infrastructure to be inspected is small, existing crack detection models using it often show a limited performance. Therefore, in this study, an unsupervised anomaly detection method was used to augment the data on the object to be inspected, and as a result of learning using the data, we confirmed the performance of 98.78% of accuracy and 82.67% of harmonic average (F1_Score).

  • For developing a text classifier using supervised learning, a manually labeled corpus of large size is required. However, it takes a lot of time and human effort. Recently a research paradigm was proposed to use a raw corpus and a small amount of seed information instead of manually labeled corpus. In this paper we introduce an unsupervised learning method that makes it possible to achieve better performance than other related works. The characteristics of our approach is that average mutual information is used to learn representative words and their weights and then update of the weights is done using a technique inspired by the works in information retrieval. By iterating this teaming process it was shown that a high performance system can be developed.

  • Making good predictions about the outcome of one's actions would seem to be essential in the context of social interaction and decision-making. This paper proposes a computational model for learning articulated motion patterns for action recognition, which mimics biological-inspired visual perception processing of human brain. Developed model of cortical architecture for the unsupervised learning of motion sequence, builds upon neurophysiological knowledge about the cortical sites such as IT, MT, STS and specific neuronal representation which contribute to articulated motion perception. Experiments show how the model automatically selects significant motion patterns as well as meaningful static snapshot categories from continuous video input. Such key poses correspond to articulated postures which are utilized in probing the trained network to impose implied motion perception from static views. We also present how sequence selective representations are learned in STS by fusing snapshot and motion input and how learned feedback connections enable making predictions about future input sequence. Network simulations demonstrate the computational capacity of the proposed model for motion recognition.

  • The characteristic of the beta wave among the EEG waves corresponds to the stress area of human perception. The over-bandwidth of the stress is extracted by analyzing the beta-wave correlation between the low-bandwidth and high-bandwidth. We present a KMeans clustering analysis model for unsupervised machine learning to construct an analytical model for analyzing and extracting the beta-wave correlation. The proposed model classifies the beta wave region into clusters of similar regions and identifies anomalous waveforms in the corresponding clustering category. The abnormal group of waveform clusters and the normal category leaving region are discriminated from the stress risk group. Using this model, it is possible to discriminate the degree of stress of the cognitive state through the EEG waveform, and it is possible to manage and apply the cognitive state of the individual.

  • This paper proposes an approach to detect abnormal data in automotive controller area network (CAN) using an unsupervised learning model, i.e. autoencoder and Gaussian kernel density estimation function. The proposed autoencoder model is trained with only message ID of CAN data frames. Afterwards, by employing the Gaussian kernel density estimation function, it effectively detects abnormal data based on the trained model characterized by the optimally determined number of frames and a loss threshold. It was verified and evaluated using four types of attack data, i.e. DoS attacks, gear spoofing attacks, RPM spoofing attacks, and fuzzy attacks. Compared with conventional unsupervised learning-based models, it has achieved over 99% detection performance across all evaluation metrics.

  • In this paper, two specially designed associative mapping memories, called Associative Mapping Elements(AME) and Multiple-Digit Overlapping AME(MDO-AME), are presented for learning of nonlinear functions including kinematics and dynamics of robot manipulators. The proposed associative mapping memories consist of associative mapping rules(AMR) and weight update rules(WUR) which guarantee generalization and specialization of input-output relationship of learned nonlinear functions. Two simulation results, one for supervised learning and the other for unsupervised learning, are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed associative mapping memories.
