An Adjustment for a Regional Incongruity in Global land Cover Map: case of Korea

  • The Global Land Cover 2000 (GLC 200) project, as a most recent issue, is to provide for the year 2000 a harmonized land cover database over the whole globe. The classifications were performed according to continental or regional scales by corresponding organization using the data of VEGETATION sensor onboard the SPOT4 Satellite. Even if the global land cover classification for Asia provided by Chiba University showed a good accuracy in whole Asian area, some problems were detected in Korean region. Therefore, the construction of new land cover database over Korea is strongly required using more recent data set. The present study focuses on the development of a new upgraded land cover map at 1 km resolution over Korea considering the widely used K-means clustering, which is one of unsupervised classification technique using distance function for land surface pattern classification, and the principal components transformation. It is based on data sets from the Earth observing system SPOT4/VEGETATION. Newly classified land cover was compared with GLC 2000 for Korean peninsula to access how well classification performed using confusion matrix.

  • Since the launch of AI, technology development to implement complete and sophisticated AI functions has continued. In efforts to develop technologies for complete automation, Machine Learning techniques and deep learning techniques are mainly used. These techniques deal with supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning as internal technical elements, and use the Big-data Analysis method again to set the cornerstone for decision-making. In addition, established decision-making is being improved through subsequent repetition and renewal of decision-making standards. In other words, big data analysis, which enables data classification and recognition/recognition, is important enough to be called a key technical element of AI function. Therefore, big data analysis itself is important and requires sophisticated analysis. In this study, among various tools that can analyze big data, we will use a Python program to find out what variables can affect addiction according to smartphone use in a decision tree environment. We the Python program checks whether data classification by decision tree shows the same performance as other tools, and sees if it can give reliability to decision-making about the addictiveness of smartphone use. Through the results of this study, it can be seen that there is no problem in performing big data analysis using any of the various statistical tools such as Python and R when analyzing big data.

Developing a Text Categorization System Based on Unsupervised Learning Using an Information Retrieval Technique (정보검색 기술을 이용한 비지도 학습 기반 문서 분류 시스템 개발)

  • For developing a text classifier using supervised learning, a manually labeled corpus of large size is required. However, it takes a lot of time and human effort. Recently a research paradigm was proposed to use a raw corpus and a small amount of seed information instead of manually labeled corpus. In this paper we introduce an unsupervised learning method that makes it possible to achieve better performance than other related works. The characteristics of our approach is that average mutual information is used to learn representative words and their weights and then update of the weights is done using a technique inspired by the works in information retrieval. By iterating this teaming process it was shown that a high performance system can be developed.

Extraction of Changed Pixels for Hyperion Hyperspectral Images Using Range Average Based Buffer Zone Concept (구간평균 그래프 기반의 버퍼존 개념을 적용한 Hyperion 초분광영상의 변화화소 추출)

  • This study is aimed to perform more reliable unsupervised change detection through the re-extraction of the changed pixels which were extracted with global thresholding by applying buffer zone concept. First, three buffer zone was divided on the basis of the thresholding value which was determined using range average and the maximum distance point from a straight line. We re-extracted the changed pixels by performing unsupervised classification for buffer zone II which consists of changed pixels and unchanged pixels. The proposed method was implemented in Hyperion hyperspectral images and evaluated comparing to the existing global thresholding method. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method performed more accuracy change detection for vegetation area even if extracted slightly more changed pixels.

Bio-mimetic Recognition of Action Sequence using Unsupervised Learning (비지도 학습을 이용한 생체 모방 동작 인지 기반의 동작 순서 인식)

  • Making good predictions about the outcome of one's actions would seem to be essential in the context of social interaction and decision-making. This paper proposes a computational model for learning articulated motion patterns for action recognition, which mimics biological-inspired visual perception processing of human brain. Developed model of cortical architecture for the unsupervised learning of motion sequence, builds upon neurophysiological knowledge about the cortical sites such as IT, MT, STS and specific neuronal representation which contribute to articulated motion perception. Experiments show how the model automatically selects significant motion patterns as well as meaningful static snapshot categories from continuous video input. Such key poses correspond to articulated postures which are utilized in probing the trained network to impose implied motion perception from static views. We also present how sequence selective representations are learned in STS by fusing snapshot and motion input and how learned feedback connections enable making predictions about future input sequence. Network simulations demonstrate the computational capacity of the proposed model for motion recognition.

  • 본 연구는 무감독영상해석(Unsupervised Classification)에서 주성분 분석법(Principal Component Analysis)의 응용성을 연구하기 위하여, 주성분 분석법을 K-means, ISODATA 두가지 무감독분류법에 적용하였다. 적용대상지역은 제주도이다. 본 연구에서 주성분 분석 방법중에서 비정규형 주성분 분석방법 (Unstandardized PCA)과 정규형 주성분 분석방법(Standardized PCA) 두가지 경우로 나누어서 각각 연구하였다. 이를 위하여 제주도의 Landsat TM영상과 국토연구원에서 조사한 제주도 식생분류 조사자료와 현장조사 자료 그리고 1/25,000 수치지도를 이용하였다. 그리고 분석된 자료의 정확도를 평가하기 위하여 오차행렬(Error Matrix)을 도입하여 계산하였다. 우선 비정규형 주성분 분석법으로 구한 주성분 영상과 Landsat TM 원래 영상을 오차행렬을 이용하여 제주도의 식생 분류에 각각 적용하였다. 그 결과, K-means 무감독분류법에서는 Landsat TM 자료를 직접 이용한 경우에는 바다와 육상의 분류가 잘 되지 않았으며, 또한 전반적인 영상분류결과가 관측치와 많은 차이를 보였다. 그러나, 주성분 분석법으로 계산된 주성분 영상으로 K-means방법으로 분류 한 결과는 관측치와 잘 일치를 하였다. ISODATA의 경우, Landsat TM 원래영상을 계산하면, K-means으로 분류한 결과보다는 좋은 값을 나타냈으나, 주성분 분석법으로 구한 영상의 계산결과와 비교하면, 주성분 영상으로 구한 분류결과의 정확도가 약 15%정도 높게 나타났다. 정규형 주성분 분석법의 경우를 보면 K-means에서는 Landsat TM원래 자료보다 우수한 결과를 보여주었으나, 비정규형 주성분 분석법으로 계산된 결과보다는 정확도가 다소 떨어지는 단점이 있었고, ISODATA의 경우도 Landsat TM원래 자료보다 약 7%정도의 높은 정확도를 보였으나, 비정규형 영상보다는 약8%정도 낮은 정확도를 보였다. 본 연구에서 주성분 분석법으로 계산된 결과에서 주목되는 것은, 주성분 분석법으로 구한 주성분 영상은 분류방법(K-means, ISODATA, artificial neural networks)에 따라 분류된 결과값이 비슷하게 나타난 반면, Landsat TM원래 자료는 분류방법에 따라 결과값이 많은 차이를 보여 주었다. 그리고 주성분 분석 방법 중에서도 비정규형 주성분 분석법(Unstandardized PCA)이 정규형 주성분 분석법(Standardized PCA)보다 영상분석에서 더 좋은 결과를 보여주는 것으로 나타났다.

Intelligent Hybrid Fusion Algorithm with Vision Patterns for Generation of Precise Digital Road Maps in Self-driving Vehicles

  • Due to the significant increase in the use of autonomous car technology, it is essential to integrate this technology with high-precision digital map data containing more precise and accurate roadway information, as compared to existing conventional map resources, to ensure the safety of self-driving operations. While existing map technologies may assist vehicles in identifying their locations via Global Positioning System, it is however difficult to update the environmental changes of roadways in these maps. Roadway vision algorithms can be useful for building autonomous vehicles that can avoid accidents and detect real-time location changes. We incorporate a hybrid architectural design that combines unsupervised classification of vision data with supervised joint fusion classification to achieve a better noise-resistant algorithm. We identify, via a deep learning approach, an intelligent hybrid fusion algorithm for fusing multimodal vision feature data for roadway classifications and characterize its improvement in accuracy over unsupervised identifications using image processing and supervised vision classifiers. We analyzed over 93,000 vision frame data collected from a test vehicle in real roadways. The performance indicators of the proposed hybrid fusion algorithm are successfully evaluated for the generation of roadway digital maps for autonomous vehicles, with a recall of 0.94, precision of 0.96, and accuracy of 0.92.

A Study on the Mapping of Wind Resource using Vegetation Index Technique at North East Area in Jeju Island (영상자료의 식생지수를 이용한 제주 북동부 지역의 풍력자원지도 작성에 관한 연구)

  • To create a wind resource map, we need a contour map, a roughness map and wind data. We need a land cover map for the roughness map of these data. A land cover map represents the area showing similar characteristics after color indexing based on the scientific method. The features of land cover is classified by Remote sensing technique. In this study, we verified the application of the NDVI technique is reasonable after we created the wind resource map using roughness maps by unsupervised classification and NDVI technique. As a result, the wind resource map using the NDVI technique showed a 60% accordance rate and difference in class less than one. From the results, The NDVI technique is found alternative to create roughness maps by the unsupervised classification.

  • Feature extraction is important to classify data with large dimension such as image data. The representative feature extraction methods lot feature extraction ate PCA, ICA, LDA and MLP, etc. These algorithms can be classified in two groups: unsupervised algorithms such as PCA, LDA, and supervised algorithms such as LDA, MLP. Among these two groups, supervised algorithms are more suitable to extract the features for classification because of the class information of input data. In this paper we suggest a new feature extraction algorithm PCA-FX which uses class information with PCA to extract ieatures for classification. We test our algorithm using Yale face database and compare the performance of proposed algorithm with those of other algorithms.

  • As Information Technology growing, the character recognition application plays an important role in the ubiquitous environment. In this paper, we propose the Modified ART1 network using Multiresolution Mergence to the problems of the character recognition. The approach is based on the unsupervised neural network and multiresolution. In order to decrease noises and to increase the classification rate of the characters, we propose the multiresolution mergence strategy using both high resolution and low resolution information. Also, to maximize the effect of multiresolution mergence, we use a modified ART1 method with a different similarity measure. Our experimental results show that the classification rate of character is quite increased as well as the performance of the propose algorithm in conjunction with the similarity measure is improved comparing to the conventional ART1 algorithm in this application.
