The Effects of Influentials on Successful and Unsuccessful Diffusion in the Social Network (인터넷 정보확산의 성공과 실패에 미치는 사회적 네트워크 영향자의 영향)

  • In this paper, authors focused on the difference between successful and unsuccessful items in terms of the innovation and imitation parameters of Bass diffusion model. Each item was scraped by members directly from the minihompies they visit. Top 50 items in terms of total number of adoption are classified as successful items and the 50 items whose total number of adoption was just below the average are classified as unsuccessful items. In particular, authors are interested in investigating the role of influentials in the diffusion process. Influentials are defined as those people whose network centrality (Indegree, Outdegree, and Betweeness centrality) was larger than the mean centrality in their social network. Figure 1 shows the plots of number of scraping, cumulative scraping, indegree, outdegree and betweenness of the people who scraped the most popular item among 100 items.

Reasons for Unsuccessful Earth Science Problem Solving of Pre-service Teachers: A Study on the Motions of the Moon and the Planets (예비교사들의 지구과학 문제 해결 실패 요인: 달과 행성의 운동을 중심으로)

  • The aim of this study is to explore effective teaching strategies through an investigation of the problem-solving abilities and reasons for the unsuccessful problem solving of pre-service teachers. The participants of the study were 60 pre-service teachers who were expected to teach earth science in elementary school (40) and secondary school (20). The participants had taken a course in astronomy before they took part in the present study. The instruments for the study were a paper-and-pencil test and interviews. The results demonstrated that the pre-service teachers' abilities to solve problems were low. The pre-service teachers of the elementary school were inferior to those of the secondary school in their problem solving abilities. The causes for the unsuccessful problem solving were identified as follows: (1) lack of prerequisite knowledge to understand the motions of the moon and the planets, (2) failure to represent problems based on solution principles, (3) failure to apply the knowledge acquired in one setting to another, different setting, (4) frames of reference the frameworks for everyday life situation and for earth science problem situation, and (5) rote-memorization of facts rather than understanding the cause-and-effect relationships. The above causes for unsuccessful problem solving seemed to be related to the characteristics of novice problem solvers in general and of the tasks about the motions of the moon and the planets. Suggestions are made to enhance pre-service teachers' problem solving abilities based on the result of the study.

  • Herein, we present a case of a successful treatment of persistent type 2 endoleaks associated with aneurysmal sac enlargement after endovascular aneurysm repair in an elderly patient. We confirmed the diagnosis by abdominal computed tomography and selective angiography revealing an 11.0-cm aneurysm sac with type 2 endoleaks. An attempt for the endovascular embolization of collateral arteries was unsuccessful due to anatomic variations and their multiple complex communications. Instead, transperitoneal sacotomy and direct suturing on the feeding target vessels was successfully performed without any endograft damage. In conclusion, sacotomy appears to be a feasible therapeutic substitute where endovascular or other techniques have a high risk of failure and lead to unsuccessful results.

  • Chronic temporomandibular joint dislocation is defined as an acute dislocation that cannot be reduced or that recurs for more than one month. The management of dislocation depends on patient status and the duration of dislocation and ranges from conservative reduction to a surgical approach. In the present cases, a 64-year-old male was referred to our department for treatment of chronic dislocation for 6 weeks. The dislocation might be occurred by endotracheal intubation. A 70-year-old female was referred to our department with repeat right condyle dislocation after reduction of dislocation at a local clinic. When she visited for later treatment of new dentures, her condyle had been dislocated again for several weeks. In both cases, we tried to treat the dislocation with several manipulations, which were unsuccessful. Finally, chronic dislocation was successfully treated by surgical traction under general anesthesia without relapse. Surgical traction is a simple, effective option with the lowest morbidity of surgical procedures for chronic dislocation when conservative reduction is unsuccessful.

  • In this paper, we performed research about the successful and unsuccessful factors for college math education. In addition, on the basis of the results from the comparative study on the Korean/foreign students' attitude toward the role of computers in math study, we tried to find out the ways to reflect the results on college math education. As the ways to improve college math education we propose that the professors should emphasize the significance of math and explain the successful and unsuccessful factors for math learning during the initial period of each semester. Furthermore, the professors should recognize the importance of computers in math study and ask for the university authority's support to provide necessary softwares and establish computer labs.

  • Since the introduction of percutaneous; transluminal coronary angioplasty[PTCA] by Grunt-zig in 1977, this is widely used in some patients with coronary artery disease and is an effective alternative to surgery for many patients. Indications for emergency coronary artery bypass graft[CABG] after PTCA are prolonged chest pain, worsening of coronary artery obstruction, "current of injury" by electrocardiogram, cardiogenic shock, and in a lesser incidence, ventricular fibrillation, coronary artery dissection[without obstruction], heart block, and intractable cardiac arrest. Recently, we have experienced one case of emergency CABG following unsuccessful PTCA. The patient was 54 year-old male and admitted with complaint of angina pectoris. The routine electrocardiogram revealed within normal limit. The treadmill test revealed severe chest pain after 2 min. exercise. Coronary cineangiogram revealed 95% segmental stenosis of the proximal right coronary artery. Our cardiologist was planned PTCA. During PTCA, severe chest pain and ischemic pattern on electrocardiogram were developed. But they were not relieved even by morphine and nitroglycerin till 90 min. So we performed emergency single coronary artery bypass graft from aorta to proximal right coronary artery with great saphenous vein. The patient had an excellent postoperative recovery and was free from anginal attack. He has shown striking improvement in general status[NYHA functional class 1] during 6 months after operation.operation.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive reclosing scheme which is based on the classification of fault patterns. In case that the first reclosing is unsuccessful in distribution system employing with two-shot reclosing scheme, the proposed method can determine whether the second reclosing will be attempted of not. If the first reclosing is unsuccessful two fault currents can be measured before the second reclosing is attempted, where these two fault currents are utilized for an adaptive reclosing scheme. Total harmonic distortion and RMS are used for extracting the characteristics of two fault currents. And the pattern of two fault currents is respectively classified using a mountain clustering method a minimum-distance classifier. Mountain clustering method searches the cluster centers using the acquired past data. And minimum-distance classifier is used for classifying the measured two currents into one of the searched centers respectively. If two currents have the different pattern it is interpreted as temporary fault. But in case of the same pattern, the occurred fault is interpreted as permanent. The proposed method was tested for the fault data which had been measured in KEPCO's distribution system, and the test results can demonstrate the effectiveness of the adaptive reclosing scheme.

  • For metabolic study of pinusolide, a naturally occurring platelet activating factor antagonist, a synthetic method for preparation of radiolabeled pinusolide was studied.   • A time of minimum light for VV Orionis has been determined photographically using techniques developed by Jeong. The observed time of minimum light shows that VV Ori exhibits a constant orbital period. The O-C computed with the light elements given by Eaton is found to be $-0^d$, 0070. An attempt to correct for night-to-night shifts for plates taken on three nights in February and March 1975, was unsuccessful and thus the complete light curve initially planned was not obtained.
