Experiments were done for the three dimensional unsteady flow in a counter rotating axial flow fan under stable operating condition. Flow fields in a counter rotating axial flow fan were measured at cross-sectional planes of the upstream and downstream of each rotor. Cross sectional flow patterns were investigated through the acquired data by the $45^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire. Flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow were confirmed through axial, radial and tangential velocity vector plot. Swirl velocity, which was generated by the front rotor, was recovered in the form of static pressure rise by the rear rotor except for hub and tip regions.
This paper is prepared to solve the problem of two-dimensional sinusoidal motion of hydrofoil, which can be related not only to the prediction of unsteady forces acting on the marine propeller blade but to the study of aquatic animal's undulatory mode of propulsion. For convenience's shake, this manuscript can be devided into two parts. In the first part, the lift and moment coefficients have been calculated by the method of conformal transformation. In the other part, the thrust and the hydromechanical efficiency have been evaluated, using Lagally's technique having extended to the unsteady case, they also have been compared with the results, which had been obtained by Lighthill[6] and Wu[7] using Prandtl's acceleration potential.
A supersonic viscous flow over a five-degree half-angle cone is studied computationally with three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. Steady asymmetric solutions show that the asymmetric flow separation is caused by convective instability. The effects of angle of attacks, Reynolds numbers, and Mach numbers have been investigated and it is found that those factors affect the generation of the side force. The side force has the maximum value at ${\alpha}=22^{\circ}$, while over ${\alpha}=22^{\circ}$, asymmetric vortex becomes transient, which results in the unsteady shedding. At the angle of attack of 22 degrees, the side force increases with Reynolds number and decreases with Mach number. The increase of the side force stops over the critical Reynolds number for the present configuration.
High negative pressure coefficient is formed in the corner of the bluff body structures. For many curtain wall designers this phenomena is of interest because this high negative pressure coefficient is adopted in structural calculation. The present study is aimed to investigate shedding vortex characteristics of two-dimensional rectangular prism flow. Unsteady calculation by finite difference method based upon SOLA is carried out for three aspect ratios(1:1, 1:2, 1:3) of Re=10$^4$ in viscous incompressible flow within infinite domain. Fluctuation of velocity components at various pick-up points and time variation of drag and lift coefficients are analysed by FFT method to reveal shedding vortex frequency patterns. At aspect ratio 1:1, one primary Strouhal number appears for about all pick-up points. At aspect ratio 1:2, two representative Strouhal numbers are classified by pick-up positions and their flows show two different reattachment patterns. For aspect ratio 1:3, frequency spectrum maintains multiple peaks.
Both a Finite Volume and a Discrete Vortex technique to solve the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations have been employed to study the air flow around long-span bridge decks. The implementation and calibration of both methods is described alongside a quasi-3D extension added to the DVM solver. Applications to the wind engineering of bridge decks include flow simulations at different angles of attack, calculation of aerodynamic derivatives and fluid-structure interaction analyses. These are being presented and their specific features described. If a numerical method shall be employed in a practical design environment, it is judged not only by its accuracy but also by factors like versatility, computational cost and ease of use. Conclusions are drawn from the analyses to address the question of whether computer simulations can be practical design tools for the wind engineering of bridge decks.

This paper deals with a thrust generation of flapping-airfoil by dynamic stall. From many other previous research results, phase angle $ between pitching and plunging mode of flapping motion must be 90 deg. to satisfy maximum propulsive efficiency. In this case, leading edge vortex is relatively small. This phenomenon is related dynamic stall. So preventing leading edge vortex induced by dynamic stall guarantees maximum propulsive efficiency. But, in this paper we insist the leading edge vortex yields quite a positive influence on thrust generation and propulsive efficiency. In order to certify our opinion, pitching and plunging motions were calculated with the parameter of amplitude and frequency by using the unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes flow solver with a two-equation turbulence model. For more efficient computation, it is parallelized by MPI programming method.
The Vortex-In-Cell(VIC) method combined with panel method is applied to the analysis of incompressible unsteady viscous flow. The dynamics of resulting flow is governed by the vorticity transport equation in Lagrangian form with vortex particle representation of the flow field. A regular grid which is independent to the shape of a body is used for numerical evaluation based on immersed boundary technique. With an introduction of this approach, the development and validation of the VIC method is presented with some computational results for incompressible viscous flow around two or three dimensional bodies such as wing section, sphere, finite wing and marine propeller.

The fluid dynamic characteristics of a circular arc type sea anchor were calculated by a discrete vortex method. The flow for the surface of the sea anchor was represented by arranging bound vortices at adequate intervals. The simulations were performed by assuming that the separations occur at edges. With time, the drag coefficient was almost constant but the lift coefficient oscillated in a cycle due to von Karman's vortex street. As the camber ratios increase, the drag coefficient and Strouhal number were almost constant but the oscillating amplitude of the lift coefficient increased largely.
In this paper, the unsteady behavior of the viscous flow field past an impulsively started elliptic cylinder is studied numerically. In order to analyze flow field, we introduce vortex particle method. The vorticity transport equation is solved by fractional step algorithm which splits into convection term and diffusion term. The convection term is calculated with Biot-Savart law, the no-through boundary condition is employed on solid boundaries. The diffusion term is modified based on the scheme of particle strength exchange. The particle redistributed scheme for general geometry is adapted. The flows around an elliptic cylinder are investigated for various attack angles at Reynolds number 200. The comparison between numerical results of present study and experimental data shows good agreements.
