An analysis is made for flow and rocket motion during a supersonic separation stage of an air-launching rocket(ALR) from the mother plane. Three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved to analyze the steady/unsteady flow fields around the rocket which is being separated from the mother plane configuration(F-4E Phantom). Simulation results clearly demonstrate the effect of shock-expansion wave interaction around both of the rocket and the mother plane. To predict the behavior of the ALR by the change of the center-of-gravity, three cases of numerical analysis are performed. As a result, a design-guideline of supersonic air-launching rockets for safe separation is proposed.
Loopnet model was developed to simulate unsteady flow in the looped network channel, considering change of the time and space. In this study, the looped solution algorithm was derived and the accuracy and stability of the model was tested. The Gulpo river system was used to calculate the flood water levels considering the hydraulic structures, tidal effect and inflow hydrographs. The result of the simulation showed that the accuracy and stability of this model was reliable. The change of flood water level of the Gulpo River system and the spillway section were not greatly affected by the operation water level of the navigation channel. But this analysis showed that roughness was one of the very important physical factor in changing flood water level.

In other to make a numerical modeling for the one dimensional unsteady flow which expressed by Saint Venant partial differential equations, Preissman's implicit scheme was used, and it's stability and accuracy was investigated. By introducing recurrence relations make it possible to use double sweep algorithm. Effective parameters to the result were the values df the $$ and the Chezy coefticient. In other to get numberical solutions with enough accuracy, $$ should not be far from the value of1, and when the criteria of the $$ was 0.6<$$<1.0, the result was alaways stable for any condition. This model should be calibrated by real fileld data, and expected to be developed for the simulation of the river system and to the long wave analysis for one dimensional coastal zone problem.

In this study the change of free surface vortex is expressed through the time volume fraction using multiphase unsteady condition in sump, because in previous studies of the pump sump did not represent the behavior of the free surface vortex exactly due to the reason it was calculated using single phase and steady condition. The reliability of the computational analysis is verified through comparing experimental results with that of present numerical analysis. Homogeneous free surface model is used to apply interactions of air and water. The results show that the free surface vortex can be identified on the isotropic surface at air volume fraction 1%~5%. The vortices make an air column from the free surface to the sump intake and are created and destroyed repeatedly. The behavior of free surface vortex at numerical analysis is quite similar to experimental test. The result of vortex motion according to time, works on a cycle.

A computational study of vortex-induced transverse vibrations of a cylinder with low mass-damping is presented. An Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation of the Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (URANS), along with the Spalart-Allmaras (SA) one-equation turbulence model, are coupled conservatively with rigid body motion equations of the cylinder mounted on elastic supports in order to study the amplitude and frequency response of a freely vibrating cylinder, its flow-induced motion, Vortex Street, near-wake flow structure, and unsteady loading in a moderate range of Reynolds numbers. The time accurate response of the cylinder from rest to its limit cycle is studied to explore the effects of Reynolds number on the start of large displacements, motion amplitude, and frequency. The computational results are compared with published physical experiments and numerical studies. The maximum amplitudes of displacements computed for various Reynolds numbers are smaller than the experimental values; however, the overall agreement of the results is quite satisfactory, and the upper branch of the limit-cycle displacement amplitude vs. reduced velocity response is captured, a feature that was missed by other studies. Vortex shedding modes, lock-in phenomena, frequency response, and phase angles are also in agreement with experiments.

The numerical experiment has been conducted to investigate the unsteady shock wave reflecting phenomena. The cell-vertex finite-volume, Roe's upwind flux difference splitting method with unstructured grid is implemented to solve unsteady Euler equations. The $4^{th}$-order Runge-Kutta method is applied for time integration. A linear reconstruction of the flux vector using the least-square method is applied to obtain the $2^{nd}$-order accuracy for the spatial derivatives. For a better resolution of the shock wave and slipline, the dynamic grid adaptation technique is adopted. The new concept of grid adaptation technique, which is much simpler than that of conventional techniques, is introduced for the current study. Three error indicators (divergence and curl of velocity, and gradient of density) are used for the grid adaptation procedure. Considering the quality of the solution and the numerical efficiency, the grid adaptation procedure was updated up to $2^{nd}$ level at every 20 time steps. For the convenience of comparison with other experimental and analytical results, the case of interaction between the straight incoming shock wave and a sharp wedge is simulated for various flow conditions. The numerical results show good agreement with other experimental and analytical results, in the shock wave reflecting structure, slipline, and the trajectory of the triple points. Some critical cases show disagreement with the analytical results, but these cases also have been proven to show hysteresis phenomena.

This paper presents simple models for flow and the PIG dynamics when it passes through a $90^{\circ}$ curved section of pipeline. The simulation has been done with two different operational boundary conditions. The solution fur non-linear hyperbolic partial equations for flow is given by using MOC. The Runge-Kuta method is used to solve the initial condition equation fur flow and the PIG dynamics equation. The simulation results show that the proposed model and solution can be used fur estimating the PIG dynamics when the pig runs in the pipeline including curved section. In this paper, dynamic modeling and its analysis for the PIG flow through $90^{\circ}$ curved pipe with compressible and unsteady flow are studied. The PIG dynamics model is derived by using Lagrange equation under assumption that it passes through 3 different sections in the curved pipeline such that it moves into, inside and out of the curved section. The downstream and up stream flow dynamics including the curved sections are solved using MOC. The effectiveness of the derived mathematical models is estimated by simulation results fur a low pressure natural gas pipeline including downward and upward curved sections. The simulation results show that the proposed model and solution can be used for estimating the PIG dynamics when we pig the pipeline including curved section.

LES(Large Eddy Simulation) with a cavitation model was performed to calculate an unsteady flow for a mixed flow pump with a closed type impeller. First, the comparison between the numerical and experimental results was done to evaluate a computational accuracy. Second, the torque acting on the blade was calculated by simulation to investigate how the cavitation caused the fluctuation of torque. The absolute pressure around the leading edge on the suction side of blade surface had positive impulsive peaks in both the numerical and experimental results. The simulation showed that those peaks were caused by the cavitaion which contracted and vanished around the leading edge. The absolute pressure was predicted by simulation with -10% error. The absolute pressure around the trailing edge on the suction side of blade surface had no impulsive peaks in both the numerical and experimental results, because the absolute pressure was 100 times higher than the saturated vapor pressure. The simulation results showed that the cavitation was generated around the throat, then contracted and finally vanished. The simulated pump had five throats and cavitation behaviors such as contraction and vanishing around five throats were different from each other. For instance, the cavitations around those five throats were not vanished at the same time. When the cavitation was contracted and finally vanished, the absolute pressure on the blade surface was increased. When the cavitation was contracted around the throat located on the pressure side of blade surface, the pressure became high on the pressure side of blade surface. It caused the 1.4 times higher impulsive peak in the torque than the averaged value. On the other hand, when the cavitation was contracted around the throat located on the suction side of blade surface, the pressure became high on the suction side of blade surface. It caused the 0.4 times lower impulsive peak in the torque than the averaged value. The cavitation around the throat caused the large fluctuation in torque acting on the blade.

DES method is applied to an axisymmetric base flow at supersonic mainstream. The model is based on the Spalart-Allmaras (S-A) turbulence model in the RANS mode, and is based on the subgrid scale model in the Large-eddy simulation (LES) mode. Accurate predictions of the base flowfield and base pressure are successfully achieved by using the DES methodology which is less expensive than LES. Flow properties at the edge of base, such as boundary layer thickness, momentum thickness and skin fraction are compared with Dutton et al [experimental data to proper prediction of base flowfiled. From the present results, The DES accurately resolves the physics of unsteady turbulent motions, such as shear layer rollup, large-eddy motions in the downstream region and small eddy motions inside the recirculating region. Moreover, The present results of using an empirical constant $C_{DES}$ of 1.2 shows good agreement with experimental data than conventional empirical constant $C_{DES}$ of 0.65.

Unsteady three-dimensional reacting flowfield generated by transverse hydrogen injection into a supersonic mainstream is numerically investigated using DES and finite-rate chemistry model. Comparisons are made with experimental results to investigate the turbulent reacting flow physics. The numerical OH distribution describes well the experimental OH-PLIF result, while the numerical ignition delay time shows some disparity due to the restricted available experimental data. The intermittency phenomena are identified by the comparative analysis between RANS and DES. Those effects are also quantified by the temperature distributions along streamlines and superimposed OH mass fraction along with time.
