  • Generation of optimum planar B-spline curve in terms of minimum deviation and required fairness to approximate a target shape defined by a strip-shaped unorganized 2D point cloud is studied. It is proposed to use the location of control points as variables within the geometric optimization framework of point distance minimization. An adaptive simulated annealing heuristic optimization algorithm is developed to iteratively update an initial approximate curve towards the target shape. The new implementation comprises an adaptive cooling procedure in which the temperature change is adaptively dependent on the objective function evolution. It is shown that the proposed method results in an improved convergence speed when compared to the standard simulated annealing method. A couple of examples are included to show the applicability of the proposed method in the surface model reconstruction directly from point cloud data.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to produce 3-D surface model from a set of range data, based on NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) surface fitting technique. It is assumed that the range data is initially unorganized and scattered 3-D points, while their connectivity is also unknown. The proposed algorithm consists of three steps: initial model approximation, hierarchical representation, and construction of the NURBS patch network. The mitral model is approximated by polyhedral and triangular model using K-means clustering technique Then, the initial model is represented by hierarchically decomposed tree structure. Based on this, $G^1$ continuous NURBS patch network is constructed efficiently. The computational complexity as well as the modeling error is much reduced by means of hierarchical decomposition and precise approximation of the NURBS control mesh Experimental results show that the initial model as well as the NURBS patch network are constructed automatically, while the modeling error is observed to be negligible.

  • In this study, the wage differentials between standard and non-standard workers are estimated using the data from the Establishment Employment Survey of 2003. The estimated wage differentials between standard and non-standard workers become greater controlling for the fixed effects of establishments. The within-establishment wage differential is estimated to be 20.7% between male standard and male non-standard workers in unorganized establishments controlling for establishment heterogeneity. However, the estimated overall wage differential is reduced to 6.8% due to the high wages of non-standard workers in large size establishments and the low wages of standard workers in small size establishments. This difference between 20.7% and 6.8% reflects the between-establishment wage differential. In organized establishments, the wage differential becomes larger, 21.8%, between male standard and male non-standard workers. For the male workers, the greatest wage differential between standard and non-standard workers is found in unorganized large size establishments: it is 35.9%. In organized establishments, it contracts to 25.8%. The additional estimations on the probability of becoming non-standard workers are done. For the male sample, the probability of standard workers to become non-standard workers in unorganized establishments is 6.0 percentage points higher than that in small size organized establishments. The probability is 20.7 percentage points higher for the female sample. However, the signs of the interaction terms of union and large size establishments are all negative. While the effect of large size establishments reduces the effect of union on the probability to 7.3 percentage points for the males, it reduces the probability to 16.0 percentage points for the females.

  • Given an unstructured point set, we use an MLS (melting least-squares) approximation to estimate the local curvatures and their derivatives at a point by means of an approximation surface Then, we compute neighbor information using a Delaunay tessellation. feature points can then be detected as zero-crossings, and connected using curvature directions. Also this approach has a fast computation time than previous methods, which based on triangle meshes. We demonstrate our method on several large point-sampled models, rendered by point-splatting, on which the feature lines are rendered with line width determined from curvatures.

  • We present an algorithm to reconstruct a pipe surface from a set of unorganized points. A pipe surface is defined by a spine curve and a radius of a swept sphere. In this paper, by using the shrinking and moving least-squares methods, a point cloud is reduced to a thin curve-like point set that can be easily approximated with a spine curve of a pipe surface. The distance between a point in the thin point cloud and a corresponding point in the original point set represents the radius of a swept sphere of a pipe surface.

  • This paper presents a practical approach for surface reconstruction from unoriented point clouds. Instead of estimating local surface orientation, we first generate a set of depth images from the input point clouds, and a coarse mesh is then generated based on them by space carving techniques. The resultant mesh is progressively refined by local mesh refinement and optimization according to surface distance measure. A manifold mesh approximating the input points within an given tolerance is finally obtained. Our approach is easy to implement, but has the ability to outputs high quality meshes in different resolutions. We show that the proposed approach is not sensitive to several types of data disfigurement and is able to reconstruct models robustly from variance input data.

  • 본 논문은 연결정보가 없는 거리영상으로부터 DSM(Displaced Subdivision Mesh)을 복원하는 기술을 제안한다.

  • We present a method to reconstruct a canal surface from a point cloud (a set of unorganized points). A canal surface is defined as a swept surface of a moving sphere with varying radii. By using the shrinking and moving least-squares methods, we reduce a point cloud to a thin curve-like point set which can be approximated to the spine curve of a canal surface. The distance between a point in the thin point cloud and a corresponding point in the original point set represents the radius of the canal surface.

  • In this paper, we propose a very efficient method which reconstructs the high resolution surface from a set of unorganized points. Our method is based on the level set method using adaptive octree. We start with the surface reconstruction model proposed in [20]. In [20], they introduced a very fast and efficient method which is different from the previous methods using the level set method. Most existing methods[21, 22] employed the time evolving process from an initial surface to point cloud. But in [20], they considered the surface reconstruction process as an elliptic problem in the narrow band including point cloud. So they could obtain very speedy method because they didn't have to limit the time evolution step by the finite speed of propagation. However, they implemented that model just on the uniform grid. So they still have the weakness that it needs so much memories because of being fulfilled only on the uniform grid. Their algorithm basically solves a large linear system of which size is the same as the number of the grid in a narrow band. Besides, it is not easy to make the width of band narrow enough since the decision of band width depends on the distribution of point data. After all, as far as it is implemented on the uniform grid, it is almost impossible to generate the surface on the high resolution because the memory requirement increases geometrically. We resolve it by adapting octree data structure[12, 11] to our problem and by introducing a new redistancing algorithm which is different from the existing one[19].
