  • Among the technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, drones that have grown rapidly and are being used in various industries can be operated by the pilot directly or can be operated automatically through programming. In order to be controlled by a pilot or to operate automatically, it is essential to predict and analyze the optimal path for the drone to move without obstacles. In this paper, after securing and analyzing the pilot training dataset through the unmanned aerial vehicle piloting training platform designed through prior research, the profile of the dataset that should be preceded to search and derive the optimal route of the unmanned aerial vehicle was designed. The drone pilot training data includes the speed, movement distance, and angle of the drone, and the data set is visualized to unify the properties showing the same pattern into one and preprocess the properties showing the outliers. It is expected that the proposed big data-based profile can be used to predict and analyze the optimal movement path of an unmanned aerial vehicle.

  • In this paper, we analyze the delay phenomenon that can occur when controlling an unmanned aerial vehicle using a camera and describe a solution to solve the phenomenon. The group of pictures (GOP) value is changed in order to reduce the delay according to the frame data size that can occur in the moving image data transmission. The appropriate GOP values were determined through experimental data accumulation and validated through camera self-test, system integration laboratory (SIL) verification test and system integration test.

  • Multi-rotor type UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)s are expanding their applications not only for military purposes but also for private industries such as aerial photography and unmanned delivery vehicles. For wider use of unmanned aerial vehicles, studies should be carried out to improve aerodynamic efficiency and reduce noise of propellers, which can be achieved based on techniques of predicting aerodynamic performance and noise in a given environment. In this study, aerodynamic and noise prediction techniques were developed for a small unmanned aerial vehicle propeller, and it was verified by comparing it with actual measurement results. Thrust and torque due to the change of r/min and the frequency spectral prediction at a given position secured the reliability of the prediction method, which provides a basis for the shape design of the propeller.

  • With the fast growing popularity of small UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), recent UAV systems have been designed and utilized for the various field with their own specific purposes. UAVs are opening up many new opportunities in the fields of electronics, sensors, camera, and software for pilots. Increase in awareness and mission capabilities of UAVs are driving innovations and new applications driven with the help of low cost and its capability in undertaking high threat task. In particular, small unmanned aerial vehicles should fly in environments with high probability of unexpected sudden change or obstacle appearance in low altitude situations. In this paper, current researches regarding techniques of autonomous flight of smal UAV systems are introduced and we propose a draft idea for planning paths for small unmanned aerial vehicles in adversarial environments to arrive at the given target safely with low cost sensors.

  • As the usage of unmanned aerial vehicles expands, the development and the demand of related technologies are increasing. As the frequency of operation increases and the convenience of operation is emphasized, the importance of related autonomous flight technology is also highlighted. Establishing a path plan to reach the destination in autonomous flight of an unmanned aerial vehicle is important in guidance and control, and a technology for automatically generating path plan is required in order to maximize the effect of unmanned aerial vehicle. In this study, the optimization research of path planning using rapid-exploring random tree method was performed for increasing the effectiveness of autonomous operation. The path planning optimization method considering the characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle is proposed. In order to achieve indexes such as optimal distance, shortest time, and passage of mission points, the path planning was optimized in consideration of the mission goals and dynamic characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle. The proposed methods confirmed their applicability to the generation of path planning for unmanned aerial vehicles through performance verification for obstacle situations.

  • As the utilization of aerial images increases, a variety of software using unmanned aerial photogrammetric procedures as well as traditional aerial photogrammetric procedures are being provided. Previously, software that used the unmanned aerial photogrammetric procedure was used for images captured in small areas. Recently, however, software that uses unmanned aerial photogrammetric procedures for large-scale images taken by using aerial photogrammetric cameras has appeared. Therefore, this study generated ortho-images using aerial photogrammetry and unmanned aerial photogrammetry for large aerial images, and compared the features of both procedures through qualitative and quantitative comparisons. Experiments in the study area show that using the 3D mesh effectively removes the relief displacement of the building rather than using the digital surface model to generate ortho-images.

  • As Unmanned Aerial Vehicles technology has been widespread, various types of unmanned aircraft and mission equipment have been developed in line with mission diversification. Especially in Korea, small unmanned aerial vehicles have been actively developed. In addition, flight control system and mission equipment interface system for effective control of small unmanned aerial vehicles, efficient communication system configuration and operation for transmission to ground operated systems by processing data are required. This paper addresses efficient system structure and operation of communication equipment for missions and control of small unmanned aerial vehicles.

  • This paper describes the analysis of lightning strike zoning, the indirect lightning data simulation and the protection design for lightning indirect effects of equipment by lightning strike for unmanned aircraft consisting of composite wings. Through the analysis of lightning strike zoning according to the external shape of unmanned aerial vehicles, the structure areas that should be protected during lightning strike is derived, and the protection requirements of lightning indirect effects for flight critical equipments and equipment that must be operated upon lightning strike was derived. Lightning protection levels according to the location of mounting equipment and surrounding structure materials for each equipment was derived, and the protection design of the unmanned aerial vehicle with composite structures was also proposed from direct effect of lightning. Later, the lightning protection technology will be verified by the ground test of lightning direct and indirect effects.

  • A study on propllers for unmaned aerial vehicles is conducted using the open softwares. Since the shape of the propeller is closely related to the thurst characteristics of the propulsion system, adopting an appropriate propeller will significantly reflect stable aerodynamic performances. In this study, propellers for unmanned aerial vehicles were modeled by using OpenVSP and Propel for comparison, the thrust characteristics according to the number of blades and the diameter of the propeller were analyzed. In addition, the tendency of thrust characteristics according to various propeller pitch angles was confirmed. Based on the analysis results of this study, the applicability of the propeller shape to the design of the unmanned aerial vehicle was confirmed. It is shownthat the analysis results of this study can be utilized when modeling the propeller shape in research such as a conceptual design of unmanned aerial vehicle. In this case, it should be noted that OpenVSP does not involve the viscous effect of air.
