여대생 대상 체중조절 프로그램의 영양 교육 효과 평가 (Effectiveness of Nutrition Education in a Weight Control Program for Female College Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the multilateral weight control program provided by the university health care center for female college students. The program was 8weeks long and composed of nutrition consultation, exercise, and behavior modification. Nutrition education focused on a low calorie and balanced diet, increasing the intake of protein and micronutrients and reducing carbohydrate and fat consumption. Evaluations were made upon completion of an 8-week program and upon follow-up at 6 months after the end of program. A total of 92 women completed the 8-week program, while 20 completed the follow-up survey. Upon completion of the 8-week program, significant decreases in body weight, BMI, body fat (kg), and %body fat were observed, and muscle mass was also reduced. The total energy and carbohydrates intake were also significantly decreased in subjects with weight loss, while the percentage of subjects whose consumption of protein, calcium, iron, vitamin $B_1$, $B_6$, and niacin did not meet the EAR, were decreased. The blood values of glucose, total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were decreased. The follow-up survey revealed that the subjects continued to lose weight after completion of the program. In addition, a Mini nutrition assessment revealed that diet quality improved, especially with respect to reductions in the consumption frequency of fried, greasy and salty food. In conclusion, the multilateral weight control program with diet education for female college students was effective for long lasting weight control and improved dietary behavior. Nutrition education for weight reduction should focus on balanced nutrition as well as lowering the total caloric intake.

Yoga Training Improves Metabolic Parameters in Obese Boys

  • Yoga has been known to have stimulatory or inhibitory effects on the metabolic parameters and to be uncomplicated therapy for obesity. The purpose of the present study was to test the effect of an 8-week of yoga-asana training on body composition, lipid profile, and insulin resistance (IR) in obese adolescent boys. Twenty volunteers with body mass index (BMI) greater than the 95th percentile were randomly assigned to yoga (age $14.7{\pm}0.5$ years, n=10) and control groups (age $14.6{\pm}1.0$ years, n=10). The yoga group performed exercises three times per week at 40~60% of heart-rate reserve (HRR) for 8 weeks. IR was determined with the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). After yoga training, body weight, BMI, fat mass (FM), and body fat % (BF %) were significantly decreased, and fat-free mass and basal metabolic rate were significantly increased than baseline values. FM and BF % were significantly improved in the yoga group compared with the control group (p<0.05). Total cholesterol (TC) was significantly decreased in the yoga group (p<0.01). HDL-cholesterol was decreased in both groups (p<0.05). No significant changes were observed between or within groups for triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol, glucose, insulin, and HOMA-IR. Our findings show that an 8-week of yoga training improves body composition and TC levels in obese adolescent boys, suggesting that yoga training may be effective in controlling some metabolic syndrome factors in obese adolescent boys.

Comparison of Tibialis Anterior Muscle Thickness with 4 Different Toe and Ankle Postures: Ultrasonographic Study

  • Purpose: Ankle dorsiflexion is an essential element of normal functions, including walking, activities of daily living and sport activities. The tibialis anterior (TA) muscle functioned as a dorsiflexor and as a dynamic stabilizer of the ankle joint during walking and jumping. This study aimed to compare TA muscle thickness using ultrasonography according to the four different toe and ankle postures for the selective TA strengthening exercise. Methods: This study were recruited 26 (males: 15, females: 11) aged 20-30 years, with no injury ankle and calf in the medical history, had normal dorsiflexion and inversion range of motion (ROM). The thickness of the TA muscle was measured by ultrasonography in the four different toe and ankle postures: 1. Ankle dorsiflexion with all toe extension and ankle inversion (ITEDF); 2. Ankle dorsiflexion with all toe flexion and ankle inversion (ITFDF); 3. Ankle dorsiflexion with all toe extension and neutral position (NTEDF); 4. Ankle dorsiflexion with all toe flexion and neutral position (NTFDF). One-way repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Bonferroni correction were used to confirm the significant difference among conditions. The level of statistical significance was set at α=0.01. Results: TA muscle thickness with ITFDF was significantly greater than in any other ankle positions, including ITEDF, NTFDF, and NTEDF (p<0.01). Conclusion: Among the four toe and ankle postures, isometric contraction in ITFDF postures showed the greatest increase in thickness of TA rather than ITEDF, NTEDF, and NTFDF postures. Based on these results, ITFDF can be recommended in an efficient way to selectively strengthen TA muscle.

Increased Expression of ATP-sensitive $K^+$ Channels Improves the Right Ventricular Tolerance to Hypoxia in Rabbit Hearts

  • ATP-sensitive $K^+$ channels ($K_{ATP}$) are major component of preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, there is little information regarding to the expressional difference of $K_{ATP}$ and its function between left and right ventricles. In this study, we measured the lactate dehydrogenase release of rabbit heart slices in vitro and determined the difference of the $K_{ATP}$ expression at the both ventricles by measuring the level of $K_{ATP}$-forming Kir6.2 (OcKir6.2) mRNA using in situ hybridization. The hearts were preconditioned with 15 min hypoxia and reoxygenated for 15 min before a hypoxic period of 60 min, followed by reoxygenation for 180 min. With hypoxic preconditioning (100% $N_2$) with 15 min, left ventricles (LV) showed higher release of LDH comparing with right ventricles (RV). Adding $K_{ATP}$ blocker glibenclamide ($10{\mu}M$) prior to a hypoxic period of 60 min, hypoxic preconditioning effect of RV was more abolished than LV. With in situ hybridization, the optical density of OcKir6.2 was higher in RV. Therefore, we suggest that different $K_{ATP}$ expression between LV and RV is responsible for the different response to hypoxia and hypoxic preconditioning of rabbit hearts.

Geometry impact on the stability behavior of cylindrical microstructures: Computer modeling and application for small-scale sport structures

  • This paper investigates the stability of a bi-directional functionally graded (BD-FG) cylindrical beam made of imperfect concrete, taking into account size-dependency and the effect of geometry on its stability behavior. Both buckling and dynamic behavior are analyzed using the modified coupled stress theory and the classical beam theory. The BD-FG structure is created by using porosity-dependent FG concrete, with changing porosity voids and material distributions along the pipe radius, as well as uniform and nonuniform radius functions that vary along the beam length. Energy principles are used to generate partial differential equations (PDE) for stability analysis, which are then solved numerically. This study sheds light on the complex behavior of BD-FG structures, and the results can be useful for the design of stable cylindrical microstructures.

Improving player performance and comfort in basketball with nanomaterials for improved padding and shock absorption

  • The paper discusses the potential of nanomaterials in revolutionizing basketball equipment by applying them to advance padding and shock absorption technologies in order to bring more control and comfort to the players. Nanotechnology devised new solutions for the challenges that the players are exposed to by dealing with issues such as better control reducing shock to the hands and wrists during those most decisive periods of every game: dribbling, passing, and catching. This work embeds nanomaterials in basketballs to understand their efficacy in reducing the amount of force transmitted to players, thereby reducing the risk of injuries and fatigue. The research gives an in-depth look into the structural properties and performance benefits of nanomaterial-enhanced padding in balls for optimized comfort and control to players and improvement in the dynamics of gameplay. The future of nanotechnology in the design of basketball equipment finds further bases in an in-depth analysis and is experimentally validated with respect to the prospects of a ball that is safer, long-lasting, and with improved performance.

기술처치에 의한 철봉 Tkatchev stretched 동작의 사례연구 (A Case Study of Tkatchev stretched Motion by Technical Feedback in Horizontal Bars)

  • 본 연구는 세계적인 경쟁력을 보유하고 있는 철봉종목의 국가대표 K선수를 대상으로 기술분석을 통해 고난도 기술인 Tkatrhev skekhed 동작의 완성도를 높임으로서 경기력 향상에 도움을 주고자 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 Tkatchev stretched 동작의 1차 분석을 통해 기술훈련방법의 피드백을 8주간 제공 한 후 반복적인 분석을 통해 기술의 완성도를 평가하였다. K선수의 1차 Tkatchev stretched 동작은 비행높이가 낮고, 비행 중 신체가 굴곡되어 있으며, 봉잡기 시 신체중심의 위치가 바로 부터 너무 멀고 낮아 낙히의 염려가 있을 뿐만 아니라 후속기술을 위한 역동성을 기대하기가 어려운 단점이 노출되었다. 이 같은 단점을 극복하기 위하여 준비국면인 크게 휘돌기의 하강 시 견관절 각을 빠르게 신전시키고, 고관절의 각운동을 이용한 Tap 동작을 짧고 간결하게 하게 하였다. 또한 몸을 접어주는 Tap 타이밍을 조금 늦추며, 다리를 차내며 신체를 역회전시킬 때 견관절의 각운동을 크게 사용하면서 신체를 충분히 끌어 올리는 연습을 주 5회(오전/오후) 총 7시간의 연습 시간 중 20분씩 8주간(총 800분)을 반복적으로 실시하였다. 그 결과 비록 봉 이탈 순간 수직상승속도의 증가를 이루지는 못하였지만 비행높이가 증가되어 고관절을 신전시키고도 철봉에 다리가 걸리지 않으며 뛰어넘을 수 있게 되어 동작의 웅대함을 제공함으로서 감점요소를 0.2점 제거할 수 있었다.

배구 스파이크 서브 동작의 운동학적 비교 분석 (The Comparative Kinematic Analysis of a Volleyball Spike Serve)

  • 본 연구는 실제 경기에서 프로 배구선수 스파이크 서브의 성공과 실패 동작을 3차원 영상분석을 통해 비교 분석하여 과학적인 자료를 현장에 제공하고, 기술의 향상에 기여하고자 실시하였다. 스파이크서브를 수행하는 3명을 대상으로 카메라 4대를 이용하여 60 fields/s의 속도로 촬영하였다. 3차원좌표의 계산은 DLT(Direct Linear Transformation)방법을 사용하였으며, Kwon3D(v.3.1) 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 총 소요시간은 구간별 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 신체중심 수직위치는 성공 시 1.87 m로 실패 시의 1.91 m 보다 낮게 나타났고, 최대 볼 높이는 성공 시 6.31m로 실패 시의 6.42m 보다 낮은 볼 위치를 나타냈다. 임팩트 시점의 손 높이는 성공과 실패 시기에서 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 점프하기 직전까지 신체중심의 전후속도를 높였다가 점프하는 시점에서 수직속도로 빠르게 이동시키는 것으로 나타났고, 임팩트 시 손 속도(17.11m/s)와 임팩트 직후 볼 속도(23.74m/s)는 성공 시기에서 빠르게 나타났다. 성공 시기에서 견관절을 신전시키면서 타점을 놀게 하고, 주관절은 적절한 각도를 유지시키면서 빠르고 정확한 임팩트를 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 동체를 전후로 크게 움직이지 않고 어깨의 회전을 원활하게 하는 것이 중요한 것으로 나타났다.

여성 피트니스 참여자의 운동열정과 운동몰입 및 운동만족과의 관계 (The Relationship of Fitness Participation on Exercise Enthusiasm, Exercise Commitment and Exercise Satisfaction by Female Fitness Participants)

  • 본 연구는 여성 피트니스 참여자의 운동열정과 운동몰입 및 운동만족과의 관계를 살펴보는데 목적을 두었다. 이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해 순천, 여수, 광양에 위치한 피트니스 센터 고객 중에서 여성 피트니스 참여자들을 모집단으로 선정하였으며, 편의표본추출법(convenience sampling)을 이용하여 250명의 표본을 추출하였다. 이 중 불성실한 응답을 제외한 223부가 실제분석에 사용되었다. 자료처리는 SPSS 25.0 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석, 탐색적 요인분석, 신뢰도 분석, 상관관계분석과 다중회귀분석을 실시하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 운동열정이 운동몰입에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 조화열정이 인지몰입과 행위몰입에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 운동열정이 운동만족에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 조화열정이 운동능력향상, 사교증진과 심리적혜택에 정(+)의 영향, 조화열정과 강박열정이 신체기능향상에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 운동몰입이 운동만족에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 행위몰입이 운동능력향상, 신체기능향상, 사교증진에 정(+)의 영향, 인지몰입과 행위몰입이 심리적혜택에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Enhanced functional and structural properties of high-density lipoproteins from runners and wrestlers compared to throwers and lifters

  • Plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels are inversely correlated with the risk of cardiovascular disease, and are known to increase with repetitive exercise. In the current study, HDL fractions from athletes' sera were isolated and compared as a function of the type of sport (runners [n = 10], throwers [n = 10], wrestlers [n = 10], and weight lifters [n = 8]), and as an age- and gender-matched reference group (n = 14). Among athletes, HDL from runners had the strongest antioxidant activity. Immunodetection showed that runners and wrestlers had the highest levels of apoA-I and lowest levels of apoA-II in their HDL. Electron microscopy also revealed that HDL2 of runners and wrestlers were the largest in size. In conclusion, although all athlete groups had significantly better serum lipid/lipoprotein profiles than the reference group, runners and wrestlers had the most desirable lipoprotein function and structure, including antioxidant activity, HDL-associated enzyme activities and increased particle size.
