본 연구는 초등학교 물리적 환경의 유니버설 디자인 적용수준을 유니버설 디자인 7가지 원칙을 기준으로 평가하여 공간 및 시설 측면의 개선안을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 초등학교 243개소를 대상으로 현장 실태조사를 실시하여 적용수준이 낮은 시설을 분석하였다. 분석결과 '쉽게 인지할 수 있는 정보' 및 '사용상의 융통성'과 관련한 환경개선이 가장 시급한 것으로 조사되었으며, '적은 신체적 노력' 원칙의 적용성 향상을 위해 대지선정과 설계 초기부터의 계획 적용이 필요한 것으로 나타났다.

This paper analyzed the current status of universal design in the Republic of Korea (Korea) and Japan. In the case of Japan, the aged society or the super aged society has been preparing from 1985 when the aging rate was 10%. Japan's activity to prepare it became promoted during 1990's when per capita Gross National Income (GNI) was $$20,000{\sim}40,000$. In Korea, the preparation for the aging society such as physical environment, barrier free buildings or traffic systems, economic support and investigation or survey is not yet sufficient. Korea must start preparation for an aged society, possibly and quickly. And it needs to prepare until 2026, when the aging rate will be 20%. To prepare a barrier free and an aged society must consider both aging and economic status.

A universal joint is a connecting device of two hinges which can transmit torque from one shaft to another at fixed or at varying angles of intersection. It has been used properly not only as rotational but also as intermittent motion. For the particular kinematics condition of a universal joint, torsional and bending vibrations are produced excessively in an elastic driveline. In this paper only the torsional vibration behavior of a driveline with universal joints is analyzed numerically with the discrete model and a design method of the dynamic vibration damper is proposed, in order to reduce torsional vibrations especially in resonance region as a result of parametric variation.

Recently as the population of the disabled increased, interest and understanding toward them have deepened and the importance of universal design has risen. The purpose of this study is to understand the 3-dimensional body figure of the disabled by collecting a plaster figure using plaster dressing method and developing an individual nude body using FRP, with one female wheelchair user as the subject. The results of this study are as follows: First, 3-dimensional shape grasp about the figure of the obstacle person as is. Second, developing of individual nude body. Third, the presentation of the practical use idea of individual nude body. Last is the security of the basic document about the universal design. Uses the individual nude body in future and under producing boil a basic pattern and disabled person clothing. A few people are frequently using Korean text entry function in the mobile phone. To make matters worse, too many kinds of Korean text entry methods exist in the market, compelling mobile phone users to learn how to input texts all over again, whenever they purchase a new mobile phone. The purpose of this study is to propose a universal design of Korean text entry method for mobile phones. Several experiments and several questionnaire surveys were conducted in order to induce design factors for the universal design. Participants were mobile phone users with the diverse levels of text entry expertise and with the diverse ages. The results of this investigation were identical, irrespective of participants' age and expertise. The efficiency of the text entry method was not more important factor than memorability. The layout of vowels to keypad was preferred to map just 3 strokes to the 3 buttons so that users can make for themselves vowels that they want to input. The preference on the consonants layout was different according to investigation methods. According to the survey, it was preferred that consonants were arranged by alphabet order. However, the result of text entry speed measurement was that the arrangement by alphabet order was not superior to the typical arrangement. Such results may be used to design mobile phones for diverse users.

In the 21st century, universal design has started to expand as new design value system for the diversity and various need of user: a new design that can reflects the welfare of the society. In addition, the percentage of population over 65 years old has been rising rapidly in Korea, and we are expected to reach 'aged society' with 14.3% of elderly population in 2018. In rural districts, population of the elderly has already reached 'super-aged society' with over 20%. With the rapid increase of the number of the elderly, the need for social service system is rising. For the independent living of the elderly, the dwelling space that supports their lifestyle is the most important factor. In advanced countries, they have proposed the housing for the elderly to keep living in their house, improvement of housing quality that fits the changing various needs of them. Until now, however, the most housing condition that the elderly has lived is poor living environment as below housing standards, especially housing in rural districts is very poor. The purpose of this study was to extract issue of housing in the rural districts in terms of universal design concept and reflecting the cultural and living characteristics of rural districts. With this, additionally, this study make understood about the necessity and important of universal design housing to reflect the characteristics of rural districts. For this study, data were collected from field survey and interview. The major results showed the following. 1) There were very various type of housing in rural districts. Spatial composition and shape was not related to living behavior and cultural characteristics of rural district. 2) The most new constructed housing was similar to urban housing type. It means that housing with respect to living culture of users in rural district must be developed. 3) In rural housing, they all had outdoor building (included storehouse, bathroom/toilet, kitchenet, etc.) relating to a series of work behavior. However, living environment was not to meet needs and characteristics of users.

In this study, the fashion show of the disabled was hold for the universal fashion through the clothes which has relationship with personal mentality and behavior. There are several outcome of the fashion show. First of all, the main outcome is that through the fashion show the disabled fret that there is no difference between them and the ordinary people. Also, it is necessary to the revitalize the product development with universal fashion design. Secondly, the systematic succeeding study is necessary to solve the problem of the disabled and to set up the database management system in order to have a general idea for the their actual living condition and essentials of life for the disabled. Thirdly, even though the main purpose of the fashion show was to give them an opportunity to live fairly as a human being within their society, after the show, the necessity of social system to solve the additional problems and to continue the mental satisfaction comes. Fourthly, the disable have a tendency not to wear the special clothes for them since they want to be seen as the ordinary person. Finally, I suggest that there must be revitalization of a special design and the product development to reflect above mentioned points in addition to ordinary clothes.

The purpose of this study is to examine urban built environments associated with the walking behavior in order to identify the problem of urban infrastructure from the perspective of Universal design theory. Using the walkability criteria developed based on the findings of previous studies on Universal design theory and walking environment, the urban built environments in old town area of Seoul were evaluated. The results of the evaluation indicated that the pedestrian infrastructure in the study area had several shortcomings to improve in order to provide walking-friendly environments. First, the pedestrian infrastructure for visually impaired people were severely limited. Second, walking traffics in large portion of the street networks were interrupted by a variety of obstacles such as parked cars, signboards, and illegal street shops. Third, there were certain areas where the quality of pavement was not properly managed. In summary, this study provides an empirical data to understand the current situation of pedestrian infrastructure in the urban areas. Improvement of pedestrian infrastructure is needed to address the issues related to the mobility of the disabled people. It is also recommended to construct the GIS data on walking environment in order to develop and mange a long-term public investment plan for walking-friendly urban environments.

With rapidly changing modem information technology, the structure of our lifestyle has underwent much changes in our society. One of these changes is an immense distribution of computer desks, which became necessities of life in various organizations, companies and public offices as well as at home. Therefore, many companies are faced with the necessity of bringing about a new product with esthetic needs and new functions and come to have opportunities to make profits from top-quality products based on competitive design development. The academic design support program in collaboration with industry can provide design-related industry with a design assistance for a new product development, in addition, it can give to the professional faculty of the college the chances to contribute to advancement of design industry of the nation. To accomplish the need and purpose of this research, the design development of unified computer desks was carried out with the introduction of life-long Universal design concept named ‘Design For All.’ The theoretical background of this study researched all the literature on the terms definition of a computer desk, the concept and definition of Universal design and design support program in collaboration with industry and performed data analyses for a product development through an analysis of domestic products and a benchmarking of foreign products. On the basis of these theoretical background and analysis results, this research brought out a new product through designing processes and the information of this production could be utilized via the feedback of a new product. That is, this research was done for a practical use.

This study aimed to evaluate how universal design principles are embodied in the village community center. It will provide preliminary data on constructing a physical space of village community center as small community space in agricultural districts. To achieving the purpose in this study, the research conducted inspection using checklist to 25 village community centers at Hwasoon, Jeonnam province. The conclusion of this study is as follows: Living room and kitchen/dining room by supportive design urgently need installation of Western Style furniture and solutions of stair gap by accessible design, and also the evaluation is unsuited on a fire-gas alarm system and prevention of electric shook system on safety-oriented design. Entrance evaluated in principle for insufficient on safety handle by supportive design and spare chair by adaptable design, and also it unsuited on the solutions of door sill by accessible design and non-skid by safety-oriented design. Bathroom is insufficient lever handle and safety grip by supportive design, sink isn't suitable by adaptable design. Outdoor space information legislation staircase ramp installation and horizontal installation of the staircase was not built.
