  • Digital textbook project is one of government-driven project to improve education due to integrating technology. Digital textbook need to be universally designed to fit for each student. Recently, universal design for learning( UDL) gains great attention as one of promising approaches for the development of the digital textbook through giving various options and flexibility to all students. UDL has three main principles, first provide multiple means of representation, second provide multiple means of action and expression, third provide multiple means of engagement. The purpose of the study is to analyze fourth grade science textbook according to three UDL guidelines and suggest implications to improve an existing science textbook. The results indicated that fourth grade science digital textbook has been partly applied UDL guidelines like implementing multimedia and multi- mode contents, learning and communication tools, and motivation strategies. But options which students can choose according to their needs and styles are insufficient and tools for expression and communication need to enhance for helping each student to overcome his/her obstacles for learning and need to be more and elaborate to support learner-centered science digital textbook.

  • Many students with disabilities and special needs are enrolled in higher education, which substantiated the need for research regarding faculty members' knowledge and willingness to implement supportive strategies in higher education in Saudi Arabia. This study explored Saudi university faculty members' knowledge and willingness to apply UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles in their teaching practice. Surveys were used for data collection for this descriptive research. The findings indicated faculty members felt that they were knowledgeable regarding UDL and were willing to use UDL principles in teaching their students. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences between faculty members' knowledge levels regarding UDL based on their current position and years of experience. The findings indicated there was a significant relationship between gender and knowledge, with males having a significantly higher mean knowledge, although further analyses revealed it was a small effect. Finally, the results suggest more years of experience are related to greater willingness to use UDL principles, and this is particularly true for those in a lecturing position. These findings could be helpful, particularly for the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia to shed light on faculty members' UDL knowledge. Further research is needed to substantiate the findings.

  • The purpose of this survey-based study was to investigate high school students' perceptions of mathematics teachers' implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)-based practices and technology in their mathematics classes in 2017. A total of 303 high school students in South Korea participated in this online survey on teachers' use of technology for instructional practices, the frequency of technology tool use, and the meeting of UDL guidelines in mathematics instruction. According to frequency analysis, high school students generally perceived their teachers' mathematics teaching as somewhat positive in providing multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement. However, mathematics teachers' implementation of technology tools in their mathematics classes was generally limited. This study indicated significant and positive relationships between variables regarding the use of technology tools and teachers' efforts to follow the UDL guidelines. Applying the Chi-squared test, we further examined how each survey result differed according to high school students' academic achievements and grade levels.

  • One of the issues with the textbooks pertinent to the current study is whether or not the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) factors have been dealt to satisfy students with different aptitudes in learning the core objectives of the lessons. This study develops a modified version of the UDL analysis criteria from the cross curricular criteria to language teaching and learning and uses it to analyze the sequence of digital English textbooks to investigate the descriptive statistics of the UDL factors in the new textbooks. The result shows that the textbook is designed most favorably to the students with the talent of linguistic aptitude and less favorably to the students with other types of aptitudes. The sequence analysis shows that sentence/word length and appearance of new words are incrementally sequenced as students advance upper grades. However, the syntactic complexity of middle school curves up steeply which is different from the elementary school textbooks. The UDL analysis will provide learning factors to consider when designing digital English textbooks to cover different aptitudinal groups.

  • Recently, Korean government has, enacted "Individuals with Disabilities anti-Discriminatory Act" in 2008, and is actively promoting the law. However, it is still at its infancy in comparison to other advanced countries in terms providing access for all users. Educational digital contents offered through cyber home learning need to be universally designed to include all learners. This study, I have analyzed the accessibility of K cyber home learning contents using FAE tool, and the result showed low scores or failed for 'HTML Standards', 'Scripting' and the 'Text Equivalents.' To assist digital contents' accessibility, UDL 7 principles could be use to improve accessibility and universality for learner-centered designs. Use of UDL will include learners with and without disabilities to learn from educational digital contents.

  • This study was related to the cases in which pre-service elementary teachers designed math lessons tailored to math underachievers with learning trajectories and universal design for learning. Learning trajectories can be a basis to identify students' current state of understanding and development, and make a lesson plan responsively tailored to underachievers' state. And universal design for learning is a framework that removes potential barriers that may exist in math lessons from the time the lessons are planned, and guides the rich learning environment accessible to all learners. In order to provide an experience of designing math lessons considering the characteristics of math underachievers, this study required pre-service elementary teachers to create learning trajectories and make lesson plans with the principles of universal design for learning. The characteristics of the learning trajectories shown in the lesson plans and the results of applying the principles of universal design for learning were analyzed. By discussing the results, implications were derived regarding the necessity of lesson planning for math underachievers and the development of lesson planning competency of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers in teacher education.
